Lightbulb Will Flexible Trade Deadline Date Be Implemented in OOTP?

Will OOTP be implementing a flexible trade deadline date just like has been the case the past two seasons in MLB? The trade deadline in 2022 was on August 2 and in 2023 was on August 1. Per the new CBA release before last season, “The Office of the Commissioner shall have the flexibility to set the Major League Trade Deadline on a date between July 28th and August 3rd.” This should be included with the Dynamically Evolving League settings.

I believe that was done the last 2 season because July 31 fell on a Saturday & Sunday respectively. They just put the wording in the CBA for those purposes to allow Manfred to have the trade deadline earlier or later if July 31 falls on a weekend.

MLB trade deadline history:

1917–1919: AL, no deadline; NL, Aug. 20
1920: AL, July 1; NL, Aug. 20
1921–1922: Aug. 1 (both leagues)
1923–1985: June 15
1986–2015: July 31
2016: Aug. 1
2017–2019: July 31
2020: Aug. 31
2021: July 30
2022: Aug. 2
2023: Aug. 1

in 2016 a rule change was made which said that if July 31 fell on a Saturday, the deadline would move up to July 30, and if July 31 fell on a Sunday, it moved back to Aug. 1. The change in 2020 was due to the shortened season. Starting in 2022 the date could be set between July 28 and Aug. 3 at MLB's discretion.

Minor thing that would be a nice add, but of course you are also currently able to manually adjust the Trade Deadline to any date you would like.

July 31st was a Monday this year and they still went with August 1st. They seem to like having it on Tuesdays for some reason.

Sure would be nice if it could be coded to always fall on the closest Tuesday to 7/31, along with making the rule 5 draft the same day as the last day of winter meetings and the amateur draft two days before the all-star game, but they’re pretty minor things that are easy enough to adjust every year.

This Sports Illustrated article offers some insight into the timing in the fourth and fifth paragraphs.
