Suggestion for International Established FA Creation
The loss of most international leagues last year combined with the huge wave of developed foreign talent entering real life MLB rn has exposed an area where OOTP is particularly weak. While I’d love to see the return of all the foreign leagues OOTP used to offer, I understand that that might not be possible so I’d like to propose a change to how OOTP handles established foreign players.
Instead of the current system, which generates players from all nationalities at once, I think it’d be more realistic to be able to add multiple different (unplayable) “leagues” that players could be generated from. Each league could then have some settings that determine how players are generated from that league (such as the amount of players typically generated per year, the national origin percentages of players in that league, quality of hitters, quality of pitchers…).
This would result in generated players that a) feel like more of a product of the world and not just RNG, and b) seem more in line with real life generated players. Taiwan and Cuba usually produce very different types of ball players (the former usually producing quality pitching and the latter better hitting) but the game treats both the same. This new system would add back some of the realism that was lost last version and improve upon a part of the game that’s been an afterthought for a while.
Unrelated request: It’d also be nice if there was more of a floor to the quality of players generated. I understand not every player needs to be major league level, but it seems like half the international guys that enter the league every year can’t hold their own in rookie ball. More AAA and AAAA type guys and less 28 year old D2 players.
