I'm sure Ernie Harwell would be proud of you.

Tom Gordon - Not a HOFer, but he had a darn, fine Career

Tom "Flash" Gordon is a first-time eligible for the Hall Of Fame and he will probably be a "One & Done",
but he was a favorite of mine anyhow.
He's seen here near the beginning of his career with
the Kansas City Royals on a Score 1991 card and near the end
of his career on a photo during his three year stint with the Phillies, ending with their 2008 World's Championship team.
Altogether he played 21 seasons
(1988 to 2009, but missed the entire 2000 season to injury).
Gordon went 138-126 with 158 Saves, 18 Complete Games,
4 Shutouts and had a 3.96 E.R.A. in 890 Major Leagues Games.
He was a 3-Time MLB all-star (1998: Red Sox; 2004: Yankees; 2006: Phillies).
He had career highs of 46 Saves as a reliever ('98 Red Sox) and 17 wins as a starter ('89 Royals).
He played for the Royals (1988-1995); Red Sox (1996-1999);
Cubs, Astros, White Sox, Yankees, Phillies (2006-2008) and
ended his career with the 2009 Arizona Diamondbacks.
He is the father of 2014 N.L All-Star infielder and N.L. Stolen Base champion, Dee Gordon.

Sorry if I spoke out of turn. I was a little pissed to find that posted photos, which I thought would be on the website more or less permanently were no longer accessible. I agree with Jabez 54 that it's a great game and we have a great website. As collectors we've got it pretty good here. I really can't complain over one little SNAFU in the course of the nearly four years I've been associated with this website. It's just that I hadn't ever seen any photos removed before......I'm not going to cry over spilled milk anymore.

Slight differences in the 1946 and 1947-1949 Phillies uniforms.

Occasionaly I've seen some misidentifications on this website regarding the year of a photo regarding Post-World War Two/late 1940s Phillies players. The uniform is radically different from the uniform worn by the Phillies in 1945 and through most of the war years and quite different from the "Peppermint Pinstripes" and Red Caps the Phils started to wear in 1950, which was pretty revolutionary for its time. The uniform of the years 1946-1949 is similar to the look and color scheme to the current Phillies alternate uniform (Weekend Home games) that has some blue in the cap and lettering and trim in addition to red.
However, the 1946 uni is a bit different from the ones worn in 1947-1949.
The '46 uniform had this odd piping near the neck the sort of formed an incomplete V. It didn't go right around the near but was inches away from it and there was still white or grey uniform at the neckline. The '47, '48 & '49 uniforms had a circular trim flush up against the neck.

Examples: Phils' pitcher, Oscar Judd (above) in a 1946 uniform and
Phillies' infielder Ralph "Putsy" Caballero (below) in a
uniform from sometime between 1947 and 1949.
Note the differences.

Cool

Ken ... Tom Gordon is one of my top 100 favorite ballplayers in history ... he was the kind of pitcher I would want to fill in, in any capacity ... a very rare bird!!

Ernie was one of my favorite sportscasters ... thank you for the reply ... very generous of you ...

TN, everything is good, mate ... and we'll leave it at that

Forum users have generously shared tens of thousands of images here. Let's not get too wrapped up in the removal of a few photos.
And let us also not forget the amazing photos that Merkle has shared with this forum. Giving him the respect of removing photos that should not have been shared is most certainly the right thing to do.

While I respect the right for everyone to be private, I feel most everyone here realizes who Merkle is. As someone who has worked with with him on 1977 Topps proofs as far back as the Guersey's auction, I would have hoped he would have contacted me directly. He did not, and I am taking on faith alone those images he said were private to his collection. But why some of those would never be shared, I cannot grasp. For the record, I had no hand in removing watermarks from any image, nor did I ask anyone to do so.
The lesson learned here by the naive posters (of whom I include myself) is that there is much more amazing stuff out there that the majority of us will never see or appreciate.

Claims

If this is going to be aired here, let me correct a few things.

I don't know "Rico43;" the individual who sold him copies of my images identified him to me and I still don't recognize the name. But when these images were posted here I contacted the individual to whom I had loaned the images for off-line use only. He immediately emailed "Rico43" to ask him not to post further of these images - he emailed him twice, and was ignored.

Nobody ever suggested "Rico43" had done this maliciously, just that in doing so he had inadvertently risked several understandings which permitted the posting of lots of images that otherwise would never have been seen, and which permitted some copyright holders to convince their lawyers just to leave this board alone in light of the bigger picture of promoting their own sales of images and interest in their businesses.

I'm sorry this remains an issue about which he and at least some others here feel in some way badly-treated. This is a mistaken viewpoint.

Unfortunately, I have enough venues in which I can't operate like anybody else or am subjected to childish criticism. So with my thanks to you and good wishes to all the true collectors and other hobbyists out there, I'll bid you farewell and a happy 2015 and beyond.

I don't know who Merkle is other than a poster who contributed to this site. I know he took a lot of great photographs and was kind enough to share them with us. I know he had a tremendous amount of insight that few others could possibly have.

I also know that farewell is used as a finality.

Ive had several people ask me to colorize multiple photos for them.

I mainly do the photos in the "Face of the MLB" thread that I have agreed to do for UK.

Other than that I do Cardinals...since that is the Team I Collect photos for.

I hate to do this but if anyone wants any photos colorized I'm going to have to start charging 1$ US ( Paypal ). I Think that is an extremely fair price since these average me 30-45 mins. a piece depending on the photo quality.

Please do not leave. I am just a beginner here, but I have been around long enough to know that you have made major contributions to this site. If some persons fail to understand how to do things properly or act as if their feelings are hurt when mistakes are pointed out, why should we allow that to drive away other persons who have been good for the site and the hobby? Sites always deteriorate when the most conscientious people leave. In their absence, irresponsible elements take over. We were very fortunate not to lose UKbaseballfan, and I would hate to lose you just as much.

I agree. If it wasn't for Merkle...images that he shared of my father I wouldn't have found anywhere else. Merkle had photos that a lot of his former teams didn't have. I will always be grateful for images he shared that have taken me years to locate. It would really hurt if he found or came across others in the future and I wasn't able to add to my personal collection to share with my family.

I agree!

Former A's/Rangers IFer Jimmy Driscoll is a friend of mine and Merkle had pics of him that he hadn't ever seen before. Jimmy is grateful for those pics!

Don't leave, Merkle!!!!!!!!!!!!
