In 1973, as commonplace then, the Pirates wore 1972 uniforms in spring training. Rather than attach the memorial "21" logo (one of the first of its kind) and then detach them for reuse on the new regular season uniforms, they donned a simple black mourning patch for spring training.

It's a grim way of always knowing when you're looking at a 1973 Pirates' spring training image.

Thanks! I assumed it had something to do with the Clemente tribute.

I just read part of Steve Blass's book having to do with Roberto's death and Blass giving the eulogy...very moving.

Speaking of which, I finally got around to watching that documentary on Dock Ellis recently. Both Blass and Bruce Kison's commentary was interesting, as well as the perception that Clemente was one of few stabilizing influences in Dock's life while in Pittsburgh.

One of the least photogenic guy I've ever come across...7 different teams, and rarely a good head shot for one reason or another. Well, these help...a 1969 Phillies (replacing the horrible Dell Stamps), and a 1970 ST shot with the Cards (replacing a B&W shot).

Longshot here, but does anyone have any color images of former catcher Terry Bell? He had a handful of games for the 1986 Royals and 1987 Braves. Either team would do. Thanks for any help!
