Mystery Astro

I lack the keen eye and recognition abilities evident in others, here. So I present the following.

This image was identified in its eBay listing as Keith Drumright. It's not a '78 uni, though. And, in the years he was in the organization, I can't think of when Drumright might have worn it. Were they doing "turn back the clock" games that early? The bat number looks like a "15", so (not that that's ever definitive) I suppose it could be Roger Metzger.

Have at it.

I saw 'Mystery Astro', immediately looked at the photo, and thought 'That looks like Metzger'.

Zeke Wilson 1895

Bmarlowe point out that there is an ID error on the 1902 Atlanta Firemen team photo in the Detroit Public Library Harwell Collection. I used the team photo as the source for a Zeke Wilson Facepack update last year but the "Wilson" in the photo is actually career minor leaguer George Leidy. Here is the real Wilson, who had been identified as Leidy in the photo.

Thank to Bmarlowe for catching the error!

I'm glad you found a profile pic for comparison. I was looking at Metzger straight-on pics and was uncertain.

Thanks, guys.

Keough Quest

Feel a little pathetic asking this, but I forgot to throw out breadcrumbs during a late night visit to the Topps Vault stuff. I know I saw strong images of Matt Keough with the Cardinals and the Angels (who he was attempting his comeback with when he suffered his horrific career and nearly life-ending injury). Can anyone produce them or a link? Thanks as always.

I don't see anything Vaulty with the Cardinals, but here are the Angels images.

Please help me on this one: I had the 2 pics FatJack has posted as Stew (Stu...on cards) Cliburn...or even maybe his twin, Stan ...I had this lonely pic of Keough with the Angels, in TV's GH series, surrounded by 8 others when he was with the A's. Really not sure about that, but compare the nose and chin. Here is the Keough's Angels and another with the A's

As I've said repeatedly, I can barely differentiate a chicken from a Volvo, so I just write down who Topps says they are. I know they aren't always correct but usually they are. Topps sold the two images I posted as Matt Keough. They are in the JD folder right ahead of Joe Keough.

Keeping in mind my terrible ID skills, I look at the images I posted and the images you posted and see them as identical--the same guy, no doubt about it. I looked for a picture of Cliburn. While they look similar, the eyebrows are entirely different. Keough's eyebrows are distinctive. Cliburn's not so much.

I believe all four images posted above are of Matt Keough. The one below is Cliburn.

Not an uncommon thing, especially in the '60s and '70s. The Braves, for instance, wore their 1971 traditional gray uniforms but their new multi-colored small "a" cap in Spring Training 1972.

In '79, the Red Sox wore the pullover double-knits road/away jerseys in ST..then switched to the home jerseys they wear today and a VERY DULL (IMHO) road jersey on Opening Day...different number font than the home jersey. They got rid of that road jersey for what they more or less wear now before the '90 season.

My earlier inquiry was off the mark. If Matt Keough/Cardinals is not in the TP, does anyone have a color or quality B&W image of him with St. Loo?

Or the Cubs or Houston? I can't find anything for Keough after his time with the Yankees.

Yeah, other than A's and Yankees, I haven't been able to find anything for the guy. Other than the Angels pics above...ironically, a team he never appeared in a regular season game for!

Matt Keough

Shot by George Brace at Wrigley Field while with Cubs, Cardinals, and Astros. Obviously given the lawsuit, can't be posted here.

Aurelio Monteagudo 1963

From a J.D. McCarthy negative, posted on eBay by seller PostcardsAndSnaps.

Monteagudo never pitched for Cincinnati, but was with them in Spring Training 1967 and was on the Opening Day roster (and is even shown in the 1967 Reds' yearbook wearing the white "C" on solid red cap style adopted after spring training.

First one I've ever seen of Monteagudo in color

A Few Other McCarthys

Same seller...

Harry Anderson of the 1960 Reds, Dom Zanni of the 1962-66 Reds; a real find, Larry Demery, who only spent about four days in the spring training camp of the 1978 Blue Jays after a conditional purchase from Pittsburgh; and Willie Kirkland with the '63 Indians. All of them J.D. McCarthys.

Not sure if many of us are versed on the status of the Brace lawsuit; the latest I can find on the internet is that there was a $765,000 settlement in January:
