ANDY "Young" CHANEY LW
Hometown - Baltimore, Maryland, USA 26(4)-17-5; 10 NC Chaney had a good career as a featherweight and lightweight, eleven of his losses came in his final 14 bouts as things fell apart for him. His first 5 pro bouts consisted of a win and a loss with Dick Loadman, a decision loss to Kid Williams and no contest 10 and 12 rounders with Kid Herman and Frankie Burns. The fast start landed Chaney a Fetherweight title shot against Johnny Kilbane in 1919. The two fought to an 8 round no decision and did the same the following year. In both bouts, Chaney won the newspaper decision but the title did not change hands because Kilbane was not stopped. Chaney went on to draw with Charlie Beecher and score wins over Archie Walker, Frank Rice, Joe Dundee, Babe Herman and a post prime Kid Williams.

ROCKY GANNON HW
Hometown - Bay City, Michigan, USA 30(23)-11-0 Gannon did relatively well at the lower weights, collecting the Michigan State, IBC and IBA Light Heavyweight Titles. Rocky scored victories over LHW Richard Hall, SMW Thomas Tate and LHW Iran Barkley. At the Heavyweight level, he was dropped by the likes of Paea Wolfgramm. Gannon made a number of appearances on USA Network's Tuesday Night Fights and was fondly remembered as "A whirling dervish of minimal talent" by one OOTP board member.

FRANK GOTCH HW
Hometown - Humboldt, Iowa, USA Height - 5'11" Weight - 210lbs 0-1-1 Gotch was the son of German immigrants, his father Frederick served in the 186th New York Volunteer Infantry and under General Grant in the Army of the Potomac. As a young boy, Frank dreamed of following in his hero John L Sullivan's shoes as a prize fighter. His path however diverted from his dream as he became a pro wrestler. He trained under American star wrestler Farmer Burns and went with Burns to Alaska in 1900 where he made $30,000 in six months wrestling. While there, he decided to try his hand as a pugilist against Paddy Slavin in a bout held at the New Savoy Theater in Klondike, Yukon Territory, Canada. The match with Slavin went badly for Gotch. Paddy battered Gotch bloody through the first three rounds. In the fourth round, a frustrated Gotch grabbed Slavin and threw him through the ropes bringing a disqualification and a quick end to his boxing career. Gotch said that he "had learned a good lesson, never take on another man in the other's field of expertise, but make him fight your style." Four years later, with a bit of training under his belt, Gotch tried boxing again with better results. He battled with Boomer Weeks to a 12 round draw in Spokane, Washington. As a wrestler, Gotch became the American Champion and a legend wrestling at Soldiers Field in Chicago and other premiere venues. He was known to have nearly super-human endurance, impeccable techniques and great agility.

ELCO GARCIA JMW
Hometown - Durango, Colorado, USA 17(7)-3-0 At 34, Garcia is a bit old to be considered a prospect, but he does seem to be progressing even at his advanced age (in boxing terms). Of his three career losses, two were by stoppage and came in his first five pro bouts. The third loss occurred in 2004 when he was decisioned by the unbeaten Ishmail Arvin. Elco has scored decision wins over Benjie Marquez, Gilberto Flores, Rudy Lovato and Anthony Bartinelli. In 2004, he took the WBC Intercontinental Mundo Hispanic Junior Middleweight Title with a sixth round TKO over Joaquin Zamora. If you think that title is a mouth full, Garcia is also the uncrowned but recognized New Mexico State Junior Middleweight Champion (whatever that is). He is currently (Jan, 2005) ranked number one in New Mexico and number five in the South West Ratings at Junior Middleweight.

I lived in Durango for 7 years up until 2003. I used to go to the casino and watch him fight all the time. Garcia was tough but he was beating up local stiffs. The town liked him alot though. |
