At 1935, what I have noticed so far
Things were looking very good until around 1925-26- since then I have noticed that in general hits and home runs for key players have been lower than expected. This has continued mostly into the 1940's, so even with the upgraded modifiers it is still not enough The Yankees have a problem with their neutralized stats. It seems like the stats are neutralized for a ballpark Hr factors over 1.000 but Polo Grounds-Yankee stadium tends to be between .940-.960. Each year I had to manually increase the park home run ratings- I have now also noticed that Joe D's stats seem low as well, as he seems to take a hit in average. In normal replays i tried before he never had 2500 hits. Lastly the development idea may not be working. It seems that even with the low modifiers, players are getting some big drops just because the game engine is giving a potential far less than were they are- so a jimmy foxx lets say starts in october (when the new year's stats arrive) with a 180 Hr rating, but a 155 potential, and already by next april to start the season he might be at 171 and dropping... So this is an issue I have to find and idea for I had an idea long ago for a "Development on" checkbox for each player. That when developement is on or off, it checks of unchecks the box for the whole league, but then we can go to each player and manually check or uncheck a box for them. Such a little thing would solve this problem... anyone though with an idea for working with this let me know...I am happy to try it out I am getting a good idea of what years my modifier adjustments don't seem to work well for and need an additional boost for future games. This is all a test run PS was nice to Ruth do his thing. would love to see him with modern modifiers and see him smack 70+ every year. Eddie Collins was a big surprise, he finished just 30 hits behind Ty Cobb |

And here is the single season home run leaders to 1940
as you can see ruth dominates the top of the leaderboard, but there is not really anyone else there. during this time in RL we saw foxx and greenberg almost hit 60 and hack wilson had a 56 but they really dont show at all on here so goes back to my post a few up about dealing with the modifiers still too low for the 1930's, and having the development issue not fully solved yet |

Update half way through the test
SUCCESS The modifiers changes have mostly turned out well. the numbers will seem slightly higher than you expect as i am playing 162 game seasons instead of 154, and with low injuries almost no one gets hurt. but before when a league leader in home runs might have 31 now they are getting to the 40's again...hank greenberg finally had his 50+ season, the red sox and cardinals dominated the 1940's, though Brooklyn is now gaining the new class of baseball greats FAILURES The development idea has not worked. The problem is that with development on, esp aging, good players will generally start taking a hit if they are over 30 early in the new season (november) so by next april when the season starts they have lower values than they should via recalc... I think the way to play now, which also requires a little bit of maintenence but would make for a more realistic play, is to have league set to "retire according to history" then each offseason day 1 click on the league transaction reports and see all the retired players, then unretire any player I want to continue. It can be a bit of a process to have to keep unretiring say Mark Fydrich or Stachel Paige, but at least then I can control his values into the future, and this will stop various players- particulary 2 win lifetime pitchers from winning 300 in the league It has been a learning test various elements of the historical game. Maybe by the 1970's some new ideas will have popped in |

I think your numbers frankly are out of whack just as far the opposite way your opening statement says they were out of order to begin this experiment. You claim that Ruth of Mays only being a career leader with 600 or so HR's was too little then Ruth turns around and has 807 HR's. How is hitting 100 more homers than real life any better than hitting 100 less? You mentioned Foxx and Greenburg not showing up when clearly they are on the list hitting44,45,46,47,49 and 51 Homers and it isn’t close enough to 56,57 58 or 59. And did you not see Rudy York on the list with 43,45 and 49 homer seasons? His career high IRL was 34,those 3 seasons alone are 137 HR’s That’s nearly half of his RL 13 year total of 277! Your numbers are just as skewed as the ones you’re trying to “Fix” they are just skewed in different Places, but imho this “experiment” isn’t making the stats more realistic it’s just redistributing them to other areas (ie Ruth having 8,50HR Seasons but Foxx and Greenburgh having none). Your basically trying to do the impossible here, your trying to make variables into constants and reproduce stats nearly exactly as they happened. I commend you on your efforts Good Luck!

thanks for adding some comments with what i am trying
one reason the overall totals are too high for reality is a) i have injuries on very low, so players who would miss 15 games here, 78 games there don't happen b) i am at this point playing 162 game seasons rather than 154 as they were at the time, the two there should raise totals in a season or lifetime by around 10%. so ruth's 800 home runs would round down to 720 which would put things right about where he is i was concerned not seeing foxx or greenberg ect as with the extra 8 game and less injuries, they should have scored higher..but I came up with more of a reason why this was happening at the end of this post i kept things like this as i was not sure the game itself has players rated correctly for injuries, and this would give me more an idea how the seasons were playing out HOWEVER,, and I was just going to post this, I did realize that in making my modifier alterations that i was making a bit of an error in the whole thing. That error came by accident. I accidentaly deleted this very game from my saved folder. Gone. So i restarted at 1955 and kept going. But now the game did not have all the extra players who had retired pre 1954, and I decided as a test to have players retire according to history. now following the same format, home runs, average ect skyrocketed. WAY past normal. Because there we no "retired" players taking homers and hits away, they went to the players in the lineup- hence by the 1930's there were lots more players who were retired in real life, but still in the game in teh starting lineups, given the way the game engine runs, that distributes a more hits and homers to more players, hence on average each player will look like they have picked up less So i see that what i was doing in this thread was really for ONLY a league that wants to run without the "automatic retire" check on. When more players are in a season than real life, then there should be some sort of at times major upward adjustment if the top players get close to their numbers, but if playing with retire on, then i can see that the modifier still needs a boost, but a much much smaller boost then i have been working here. Maybe 20% of any boost to the value i was using All in all it has been a very interesting experiment so far as how modifiers actually affect the stats of a league is something i haven;t really studied that much, so just for that it has been a very interesting examination of how this facet works it is late now, will post those big number seasons tomorrow to show the difference without the retired players Last edited by sprague; 05-22-2013 at 04:48 AM. |

AS you can see, overall the numbers are not too bad-
Then I started a new league in 1955. This league would have retire as per historical i continue my modifier editing the numbers skyrocket |
