Saturday, October 3, 2071 MACS, RACERS GONE FROM THE IPA PLAYOFFS IN FIRST ROUND BEATEN BY V'S AND TYPHOONS... 4 TEAMS STILL LEFT IN ROUND ONE SERIES Two longtime postseason powers are history... defending IPA champion Wynnamac and well-regarded Rolling Hills have been eliminated in the first round... the Macs were whipped by the Volusia Vigilantes and the Racers were outclassed by the Turon Typhoons... in the Ruthlandian Union First Round Belair Beach is up 2-1 over the Valmara Vipers and in the Tycobbian Union White River tops Tuckanarra 2-1. In yesterday's action Volusia swept past Wynnamac 5-2, winning in three straight games... in another sweep Turon torched Rolling Hills 10-6 in the third game... White River nicked the Tucks 2-0... and Valmara blanked the Belair Beach Sunbirds 4-0. The Sunbirds and Vipers will tangle in game four this afternoon and the Rascals and Tiger Cats will engage in their fourth clash. 2017 Ruthlandian Union First Round Series - Game 3 Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-19-2021 at 10:39 PM. |

Sunday, October 4, 2071 SUNBIRDS AND RASCALS ADVANCE TO IPA UNION FINALS AGAINST VIGILANTES AND TYPHOONS Two more squads qualified for the Final Four of the Islandian Pro Alliance postseason playoffs... the Belair Beach Sunbirds disposed of the Valmara Vipers in the Ruthlandian Union First Round and the White River Rascals took care of the Tuckanarra Tiger Cats in the Tycobbian Union First Round action... both clubs prevailed in the best-of-five series, winning 3 games to one. Belair Beach slammed Valmara in game four 7-2 and White River finished off Tuckanarra 8-3. Four teams remain in the quest for the IPA Pro Cup Trophy... the Volusia Vigilantes and Belair Beach will battle for the Ruthlandian Union title and White River and Turon will contest for the Tycobbian Union title with the winners clashing in the IPA Pro Cup Series. Monday, October 5, 2071 IPA DOWN TO THE FINAL FOUR... RUTHLANDIAN AND TYCOBBIAN FINALS SET TO BEGIN WEDNESDAY IN BELAIR BEACH AND WHITE RIVER 64 Islandian Pro Alliance clubs took to the diamond in the spring of 2071, dead set on winning the cherished Pro Cup Trophy... those 64 teams were pared down to 8 at the end of the regular season... a week later we are down to the Final Four: Belair Beach and Volusia in the Ruthlandian Union and Turon and White River in the Tycobbian Union... this formidable foursome will tangle for the league titles beginning Wednesday afternoon... the Sunbirds will host the Vigilantes at Bayside Park, while the Rascals will welcome the Typhoons at White River Stadium... all postseason series in the IPA is a best-of-five. Volusia (86-68) qualified for the RU Finals by upsetting the current Pro Cup champion, the Wynnamac Sundowners (103-51) in a three-game sweep, while Belair Beach (100-54) whipped Valmara (101-53) three games to one... none of the first-round action went the full length... White River (97-57) swept the Tuckanarra Tiger Cats (97-57) three games to none in the Tycobbian Union... Turon (104-50) made the second round of play by getting by perennial powerhouse Rolling Hills (96-58) three games to one. Turon is the highest rank club remaining on the postseason playoffs... they were the #3 pick of the prognosticators and soothsayers in the Pro Cup poll... White River was #4... and Belair Beach and Volusia were down at the bottom of the list at #7 and #8. The Sunbirds and the Vigilantes are pretty evenly-matched in the Ruthlandian Union Title Series... both can score runs... Belair Beach led the RU in scoring with Volusia in third place... pitching is good... the Sunbirds may be a little better with starters... their bullpen may be better, too... neither club plays defense very good... but beware, the scrappy and spunky Vigilantes have a history of upsetting favored teams in the playoffs... don't be mislead by their season record. Forecast: Belair Beach may have a slight edge in the starting rotation and in the bullpen... the Sunbirds should win in a hard-fought 5-game tussle. It should be quite dogfight in the Tycobbian Union Title Series... both Turon and White River possess good offenses and fine pitching... the Typhoons are better with the gloves... Turon was one of the best defensive teams in the IPA... the Rascals are just average... give the edge in power to White River by a large margin... good pitching coupled with home-run power is significant in postseason play. Forecast: In a whale of a series, go with the Rascals... they are just a little bit better than the Typhoons... they will triumph over Turon for the TU title... and then go on to win the 2071 IPA Pro Cup Trophy. Thursday, October 8, 2071 V'S AND TYPHOONS OPEN UP IPA UNION TITLE SERIES WITH VICTORIES OVER SUNBIRDS AND RASCALS The second round of postseason action got underway in the Islandian Pro Alliance on Wednesday afternoon... Volusia and Turon triumphed in the opening games of the IPA Union Title Series... in Ruthlandia the Vigilantes swatted the Belair Beach Sunbirds 8-3 and in Tycobbia the Typhoons skimmed by the White River Rascals in a pitcher-perfect 3-2 victory. Friday, October 9, 2071 TURON COULD SWEEP RASCALS... SUNBIRDS AND V'S SPLIT SO FAR Turon is looking good in the Tycobbian Union Title Series with two straight victories on the road over White River... the Rascals are in danger of being swept in the best-of-five series... however, it's all even in the Ruthlandian Union Title Series with Belair Beach and Volusia dividing the first two games. Turon took charge of the White River series with a 7-2 bashing of the Rascals... it will be broom time at Typhoon Stadium in game three... in the other playoff series Belair Beach copped a tight duel 2-1 over the Volusia Vigilantes. Saturday, October 10, 2071 RASCALS STILL ALIVE AND BREATHING IN TU TITLE SERIES... SUNBIRDS SOAR IN RU TITLE SERIES Land sakes alive! The White River Rascals are still alive! Two days ago the Rascals were gasping for dear life, now they are breathing a little better, but they are still on life support and in dire danger... they are hanging in and hanging on and not quite dead yet... White River avoided elimination in the Tycobbian Union Title Series with a 3-0 whitewashing of the Turon Typhoons, who won the opening two games... still the road is all uphill for the Rascals... they have to win two more games and they will have to win them on the road in Turon... the Typhoons are still ahead two games to one and only need one win in the next two games to move on to the IPA Pro Cup Series. Belair Beach took a big step in the Ruthlandian Union Title Series by besting the Volusia Vigilantes 7-5 with some late-innings heroics... the Sunbirds have won two of the three games in the best-of-five series so far. Sunday, October 11, 2071 BELAIR BEACH PRO CUP SERIES BOUND... RASCALS AND TYPHOONS TANGLE IN 5TH-GAME SHOWDOWN The stage is being set for the 2071 Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup Series... one team has qualified already... in the Ruthlandian Union Title Series the Belair Beach Sunbirds toppled the Volusia Vigilantes three games to one and are now bound for the IPA championship series... they will play the winner of the Tycobbian Union, either White River or Turon... the Rascals and Typhoons are all even after four games. Belair Beach wrapped up the RU title with an 8-5 triumph over the scrappy Volusia Vigilantes that took 13 innings... White River got good solid pitching again and defeated Turon 7-2 in game four. Monday, October 12, 2071 TURON TOPS WHITE RIVER IN DECISIVE 5TH GAME TO WIN THE TYCOBBIAN TITLE... UP NEXT, THE PRO CUP SERIES The Turon Typhoons came through when it got down to the nitty-gritty... they won when they had to... Turon won game five of the Tycobbian Union Title Series 6-3 over a testy White River team and will now move on up the glorious golden ladder of baseball in the Islands to the Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup Series. Turon started off like a ball of fire with two straight wins to open the TU Title Series, but White River fended off elimination with "must win" victories in games three and four. Now the Typhoons face the challenge of the Belair Beach Sunbirds in the Pro Cup Finals... the Sunbirds were the surprise victor in the Ruthlandian playoffs... Turon was the number 2 pick to win the Pro Cup Trophy this year... Belair Beach was way down the list at number 7... the top choice was the defending Pro Cup winner, the Wynnamac Sundowners, who lost in round one to Volusia, the number 8 selection. Monday, October 12, 2071 PRO CUP TIME IS HERE WEDNESDAY... SUNBIRDS MEET TYPHOONS IN 71ST PRO CUP SERIES The 71st edition of the vaunted Islandian Pro Alliance Pro Cup Series is set to begin this Wednesday afternoon in Turon at Typhoon Stadium... this year's champion of the Tycobbian Union, the Turon Typhoons, will welcome this year's champion of the Ruthlandian Union, the Belair Beach Sunbirds, in the opening game of the best-of-five series for the Pro Cup Trophy. Getting to the Pro Cup Finals is never easy... both finalists had to defeat some good ballclubs to get here... Belair Beach beat Valmara in 4 games and Volusia in 4 games to reach the Pro Cup Series... Turon topped Tuckanarra in 4 games and then had to go 5 games to whip the White River Rascals. Both teams won 100 or more games this season... Turon paced the IPA with a 104-50 mark, while Belair Beach finished up 100-54... the Typhoons are a very good all-around club with no weaknesses...about the only thing you could say is that they could use more home-run power... they have the rest: excellent pitching, good run scoring and strong defense... the only thing the Sunbirds have the edge is in scoring... they topped the Ruthlandian Union this season. Both Turon and Belair Beach were in the postseason playoffs last year... they both lost to the IPA champion Wynnamac... the Sundowners defeated the Sunbirds in the RU first round and the Macs whipped the Typhoons in the Pro Cup Finals... Turon is gunning for their 5th Pro Cup Trophy, having won in 2003, 2006, 2009 and 2018... Belair Beach is seeking their very first Pro Cup crown... the closest they ever came was in 2014 when the Sunbirds were up 3 games to 1 in the Pro Cup Series, but they lost the last 3 games to that year's champion Kenwood Wildcats. 2071 Pro Cup Outlook: Turon has a bonafide stopper and ace in left-hander Skippy Mulroy... he could win two games in the series... he's a huge plus... but Belair Beach has more "stars"... the Sunbirds have an elite outfield consisting of veterans Curtis Cochran (age 40), Alfie Elbourne (age 32) and rising superstud Andrianus De Jonker (age 28)... Turon can't match them there... the Typhoons have a slight edge in overall pitching... they may have a better bullpen than the Sunbirds... Belair Beach has the edge in scoring runs and in home-run power... Turon is much superior playing defense... should be a great series... pitching and defense will be the keys... Turon will prevail in 5 games over Belair Beach. Turon Typhoons Home Page Belair Beach Sunbirds Home Page Last edited by Eugene Church; 10-29-2021 at 05:07 PM. |
