MLB Network radio this morning mentioned rumors that Boras has opened up dialog with at least one other team. I'm not sure how Boras gets a massive deal for Correa at this point. Any long term contract is going to be littered with caveats, options, and more.

So…are we thinking Boras faked the medical records? Given that both the SF and NYM doctors have found fault with Charlie Oppenheimer's (yeah, I'm gonna keep calling him that) knee, should we assume that Boras was trying to pawn off some damaged goods?

I've never liked Boras, but I have never known him to lie or cheat. He just encourages his clients to chase every last dollar.

There’s no reason for him to do that at all, considering the team is going to conduct their own physical.

Alonso got a nice 1-year deal for an arbitration-eligible player, $14.5 million. He deserves it.

Good for Pete. Should we be worried that the FO hasn't locked him up longterm yet, thought? Seems as though you'd want to take care of that, ASAP.

He should be a fifth-year player this year, so there should be two years left to hammer out a retirement deal, shouldn't there?

I wonder if we should update the title here, as the Tigers thread has done? My thought would be something such as:

Uncle Stevie's Dream Team: Disappointment Guaranteed!

True, you can't spell "Disappointment" without "Mets".

(Literally true; you'd be left with "Diappointn". And who wants that?)

Frank Thomas died recently, but not the Frank Thomas, a.k.a. the Big Hurt. No, it was this guy; he was 93:

Usually playing in left field for Manager Casey Stengel’s 1962 Mets team, which lost a record 120 games, Thomas drove in 94 runs in addition to his 34 homers — a club record that stood until Dave Kingman broke it with 36 in 1975 — taking advantage of the short left-field foul line at the Polo Grounds, the Mets’ home for their first two seasons.

But Stengel grew tired of Thomas’s penchant to pull just about everything, which he felt often led to ground-ball double plays.

The Polo Grounds had signs advertising Howard Clothes on the fences near the foul poles, offering a boat to the Mets player who hit them most often.

One day, when Thomas was being doubled up after evidently trying to hit the sign, if not slam the ball over it, Stengel shouted from the dugout, “Ya wanna be a sailor, join the Navy!”

Aww, it was so good to see him at Old-Timers Day this past summer. Glad that Uncle Stevie brought it (and Frank E.) back.

Remaining 1962 Mets, by position:

Starting pitchers: Roger Craig, Craig Anderson, Jay Hook
Bullpen: Galen Cisco, Ken MacKenzie
C: Hobie Landrith
1B: Ed Kranepool
2B: Felix Mantilla
SS: Rick Herrscher
3B: Cliff Cook
OF: Joe Christopher, John (Thumper) DeMerit

So now we're an outfielder short. Gotta send a pitcher out to shag flies on their off-day, I guess.

(Herrscher played most of his games at other positions, but he did get one appearance at SS. It might be more practical to move Mantilla there and put Rick at 2B, though.)

If he's a Mets fan though, he had his heart ripped out many years ago, and the cockles have been replaced by a small toy paper boat fashioned out of unused 2007 Mets playoff tickets.

LOL. (Of course, only because I am not a Mets fan, only an interested bystander.)

This is kind of funny because if you look at his record, I think what actually happened is that Stengel put up with the lack of bat mobility in 1962 because he cracked 34 dingers but in ‘63 his power skipped town for good and at that point he was like “shape up or ship out”. Which I totally get; all those flaws sure look a lot more pronounced when the guy’s not dropping 30+ into the cheap seats a year.

Also, by 1963, Shea Stadium was (literally) looming on the horizon (in Queens). Indeed, the Mets were supposed to have been there for '63, but construction delays pushed the move back a year. And you didn't need to have Jay Hook's M.S. in Engineering from Northwestern to know that Big Shea was going to be a bit more difficult for dingers than the Polo Grounds.

(Unless your name was Wilver Dornel Stargell, that is. But the Pirates weren't dealing him.)

So it made sense for Case to give the proto-DH types the golden toe, I'd say.

It's funny how Steve Cohen has be come a pariah among fat cats; other owners resenting how rich he is and showing them up. For example,
