Question League Totals Problem

I started my world with a historical league, which I heavily modified, and several fictional leagues. I intended to use the historical league as a starting point from which the league would transition eventually into a wholy fictional league. My intention was to attempt to get numbers approximating mid to late 80's numbers. I've been modifying the league totals each year to approach my target numbers without any success. Eventually, I realized that the game is changing the league totals on its own each year, effectively short cicuiting my alterations. My question is why and how do I stop it? So far as I can tell, I've unchecked each of the boxes that would make the computer attempt to replicate actual historical progression.

So after you change the league totals values, those same values change after simming? Or are you just having trouble getting results?

It appears that at the beginning of each preseason the league totals are automatically altered. Now that I've figured out when the change happens, I'm able to change the numbers back and get satisfactory results. But I'm still confused as to why the computer is altering the league totals every year.

Can you post your .dat files somewhere, zipped, so I could take a look. Maybe there's something you're missing and maybe there's a bug. I'd like to determine that before logging this.

Since you started with a historical league, could this be as simple as unchecking the setting to auto-adjust league totals every season?

I'm pretty certain I've unchecked all of the relevant boxes. The .dat files are posted at

When you uncheck the boxes the game assumes you are playing 1-yr recalc mode so it changes he league totals each season. With the boxes checked the game only updates te modifiers each season. Putting in 1980's numbers into the engine totals does not necessarily give you 1980's output. You would need to edit he entire era_stats.txt file to have 1980's league totals for whatever season(s) you are simulating, then keep the boxes checkd and let the game update the modifiers.

I've tracked my season stats and made the modifications to the league totals and modifiers to give me the statistics I desire. The problem is that I don't want the program to automatically change either.

pine_marten - If you want to manipulate the league totals modifiers yourself do this:

1. Make sure that the auto-calculate league totals modifiers box is enabled. This will make sure the engine totals stay in place each season.

2. Type in your own modifiers on Opening Day of each season. The game wll calculate it's own modifiers before the season starts. If you type yours in after the game updates them they should stay in there for the rest of the season.

You were probably typing in your moifiers at the end of each season or on like Jan 1st of the next season. If you do that the game will over-ride what you typed in and calculate it's own.

I think this should work for you.

Garlon, thanks for the assistance. However, maybe I wasn't entirely clear - I've already been working around the situation, albeit with a slightly different approach. I have a set of league totals and league modifiers that provide me with the range of statistics I want. Apparently the way I have the league set up, the modifiers don't change, but I've noticed that the league totals change at the beginning of preseason. So, I've been changing the league totals back to my preferred numbers after preseason begins. It's not that it doesn't work, it's just think its something of a hassle and a potential stat screwer-upper if I should forget. So you believe my only option is to manually change either the league totals or the league modifiers every year?

I don't know if this is the proper forum to request a new feature, but if it isn't already available, I think there should be an option added that prevents the game from changing any of these numbers regardless of how the game assumes I want my league to progress.

pine_marten - The easiest way to accomplish what you are trying to do would be to edit the era_stats.txt file and swap in the new one. That way all you need to do is enable the league totals modifiers an the game will calculate it perfectly for you and give you the output you want every season.

Pick a seasos or decade that you want to consistently replicate and I can even make you a custom file. Send me a PM with your email addy.

If you want you could even edit the columns yourself if you have Excel.

The era_stats.txt file is located: C:\Documents and Settings\User1\My Documents\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2007\data\database

If you do any editing of this file make sure you make a backup copy first.
