historical, financial, free agents

Why do free agents (and prospective free agents) demand so much money in historical mode? I tried to start in 1976 and couldn't keep a team because players demanded new contracts that were twice my team's budget. And what are these bizarre rival baseball leagues that these players end up signing with ... guys, this isn't FIFA, there IS NO RIVAL LEAGUE TO THE MLB. Major League Baseball as an exemption from U.S. anti-trust law that basically prohibits rival leagues from cropping up. So how do I eliminate them and will eliminating them solve the budget issue?

I love the game, but it's way too hard to find all of the customization settings in this game.

I've moved this thread to Historical Leagues as someone in here might be able to help with the settings.
