Is it possible to change division and playoff structure on the fly?

I'm about three seasons into a major-league game and after this season I want to expand the league by two teams. When I expand, I want to abolish the divisions and just have 16 AL teams and 16 NL teams with the top 4 from each league making the playoffs.

Is this possible when I've already started a game? I'm currently mid-season and it doesn't appear as though I have the option. Does it appear during the offseason?

You can do it. The best time is right at the start of the preseason (usually the 1st part of February). Just make sure you import or create a new schedule after you make the new alignments.
