New to OOTP 15 and haven't played online before with other versions and hardly played the sim but I want to know how hard is it to run an online league? Does anyone have some sort of link to a detailed explanation of how it is done? Also if you are just a manager and not running the league what is it that you need to do? I played OOTP 11 this week for kicks but wanted to buy the latest version since that is what most will be playing and play that online but I want to be sure I can handle dealing with what is required to get involved with online play. I don't want to end up playing alone cuz I could just do that with OOTP 11. :S
Eh update: I found the link to information from within Steam (manual link on store page) but if anyone has information to share that is not there please do. Last edited by DeViLzzz; 04-24-2014 at 05:17 PM. |

The hardest part of being a GM is getting the league file up and running. If you are familiar with compression programs and file paths it is easy. If not it can be a little (not a lot) daunting. Depending on the folders included in the league file it can take some time to download and decompress the file and get it into the right folder. The GM makes promotions and demotions. Sets their line up and staff. Makes any FA offers they want and exports frmo in the game. Once the sim is run the GM downloads (from in the game) the new league file. Check results, makes changes and uploads for the next sim. A GM can spend 20 minutes a week on their team or 5+ hours depending on how much time they want to put into their minors, L vs R splits, 7- day lineups, waivers, trade offers etc.

So do you actually play the games, or is this not the right SIM for that?

In offline games you can manage your team during the game. You don't swing or anything, you just tell them what to do in tactical terms. Steal. Bunt. Hit and run. That sort of thing.
I choose not to do that anyway, but you can. Online league, you set strategy sliders for different situations so that the game will play more like you want it to... (you can if you want in offline games too) but in the end, the computer is going to make those in-game decisions and you're just making bigger decisions like lineups and roster moves. |

The actual in game stuff is a piece of cake comparatively. Although we haven't delved into the financials quite yet, because the draft just started. |
