Trading for Prospects
Hi guys, new to OOTP and first-time poster. I had a question about shopping players for trade. Is there an option to shop a player and change what you're looking for in return? Say you're looking strictly for prospects or a veteran. I know you can initiate a trade and pick exactly who you want, but was wondering if there's an option to shop a player and just get offers of teams willing to deal prospects. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks! |

I do not know of any way to indicate what you are interested in (prospect/veteran).
But shopping a player does let you know which teams have an interest, which let's you select "trade" and then replace the player they offer with one more to your liking. So even being offered a 35 year old stiff can be useful. |

You have an option to "Win Now" or "Rebuilding" you can select if I'm not mistaken.
Win Now means you'll be offered established players in trades. Rebuilding means you'll be offered more prospects in trades.

Thanks for the response, guys. I see when you use the drop down menu to trade with each team, it says "rebuilding" or "win now!" for each team, but do you know where that selection is for me to change my preference? I can't seem to find anywhere near the trade screens.

Would like to know the same. How do I set that I'm looking for prospects/minors rather than major leaguers when shopping someone?
Thanks |

I think you cannot filter that way
I am new to the game, too, but i think the "win now/rebuild" is just applied to other teams (a nice help when we look for trades).
Personally, I would not want to limit what other teams offer, even old guys with big contracts and small production. It is very easy to quickly note and then ignore unwanted offerings, but it is always a learning occasion to see how valued your shopped player is. When I shop a player and see what other teams are offering, I rarely trade one-for-one for an offered player, but I select "trade" for a player in order to tweak the offer by browsing that other team's rosters, often deleting the original player offered in return. |

From what I understand, when you use the shop a player functionality you will only ever be offered a player who is on the 40 man roster. This means that not too many prospects will appear.

A useful strategy for me is to offer a few different players and note which teams make offers. Chances are good that two or three teams will usually make better offers than the rest. The scouts on those teams are valuing your players more highly than average. They will be the teams you can target for trades
. Pillage at your pleasure.
