Can't get players off the 40-man once they clear waivers

I'm starting to get seriously frustrated by this -- how do I get a player off of my 40 man roster? I put them on waivers, they clear, then I drag them to the bottom like the game tells me to... and they just get dumped off of the "waivers" list and right back into the roster! I can't DFA them, I can't get them to the minors; they're just stuck on my roster forever. And the game overwrites my save literally every time this happens, so I can't even save my game and try to get rid of them a few times; it costs me multiple days every single time. I'm completely stumped; I've tried literally everything, and I can't control my 40 man roster in any way.

Waive and DFA the player - After they've cleared waivers you should be able to put them onto one of your minor league teams

Release them

Those are the ways to do it within the game

Do do it outside the game - Release them. Go to the player editor. Edit their current team to one of your minor league teams.
