Online Leagues Thoughts?
How are the online leagues this year with FMH6?
We tried one with 5 and it proved difficult. We had a number of GM's that could connect via FTP one day, then not the next. Injuries were tough to handle as the commish had to manually adjust lineups so as not to disrupt their strategies. There were times, injuries were so bountiful that the commish grew tired and simply had the AI make corrections - which in turn removed all strategies out the window. Have any of the above been addressed? Any other hiccups? We have a group of guys dying to get back into a league, but we'd like to see some of the issues ironed out before proceeding. |

Just got into the FHM online league game after doing 15+ years of leagues with OOTP and 7+ years of leagues in NBA.
Have to say it's a tough go of it for the reasons you mentioned above. It literally takes forever to get through a sim because of all the injuries and changes you have to make on the fly just to get one day to pass. In my MLB and NBA, I advance the calendar to the day I want and click sim and I'm done... Also, I've always enjoyed OOTP and other game's ability to take the online league outside of the game's interface with game html reports or csv files that include things you can take outside of the game for an online league. I've been able to work around most things that are lacking - like box scores, stars, salaries, development, etc. - but can imagine this is part of the reason the game has difficulty taking off in the online league realm. I was shocked to see the sheer lack of posts for online leagues when compared to the OOTP side especially considering how nice the game looks, but after a while I can kind of see why people shy away from it. We're still having a good time of it after the first couple weeks of our league - but it's a ton of work to make it as enjoyable as my other leagues. Just my 2 cents.. |

I've been a member of many FHM online leagues and it is unfortunate that so much work has to fall to the commissioners in order to make it livable for the GMs, but there are leagues out there that do a great job of handling the FHM quirks. They did try to add a feature that helps with the injury issue you described, it's called Lineups, but to use it you have to hand over line and tactic control to the AI, which no one I know is comfortable with, so it doesn't really get used. If they separated it so just lines were controlled by the AI it would basically fix that issue. As for the ftp issues, that's dependent on the league's ftp server. Many leagues use free ftp services, which are up and down all the time.
As Bayken mentions I also wish there were online html reports that could be exported, right now a lot of leagues take a ton of screenshots so people can see what's going on without loading the game, but again that's a fair bit of work for the commissioners. The csv exports help a bit but they lack a lot of info still. All that said I do really enjoy FHM6 online, I play it exclusively online now and I've met some great groups of people who do a great job keeping leagues interesting and entertaining. Here's hoping FHM7 brings us more features for online leagues. |
