How to win

So what is the best way to win games? I have not played OOTP for a few years, but I remember that a good strategy was to take everything until 2 strikes and then swing away. Is this still a good tactic?

That wasn't a 'good' tactic.

That was a 'lets figure out a way to break the game engine' tactic.

Have your players cross home plate more times than the other team's players.

(Sorry, couldn't help it)

Ctrl+Alt+Del has been the most effective strategic combination I have come across.

Ok, so it might not be a realistic approach. But it worked back then anyway.

So what is a good way to play out the games? Let's hear about your tactics.

Try doing it as if you were a real manager and it's a real team.

I mean isn't that the purpose of buying an in depth baseball simulation - to play it like a baseball game?

You are right of course. The thing is that I suck , despite having good players.

Maybe I just need more patience. But more often than not I find the opponent rallying against me, despite having a five star pitcher. I don't know how to stop that.

FWIW. Watch your pitcher's tiredness closely. If your starter gets in a jam and may be starting to tire, don't be afraid to put your best reliever in (i.e. your closer) to get out of the jam even if it's not the 9th inning. If you can (i.e. if it doesn't screw you in the next few games), be aware of left/right splits an match up your relievers accordingly, even if it's batter by batter.

Full disclosure, I don't always do these things - I jam through like a big, dumb idiot -- but they're sound tactics. Actually, real baseball tactics (if you go research them) work very well for OOTP.
