That's a pretty big jump, but that happens sometimes with players, too. If they give you demands and you insult them with an offer, they might increase their demands. Some are willing to negotiate, some play hardball. I think it's all tied into player/coach personality. I'd assume Greed and Loyalty are the big deciders there.
