Has anyone had success with the Padres?

Having such a high team payroll and an owner who gives you no money for extensions and a very small budget (less than what the current payroll is) has made it impossible for me to win.

If you have had success share your tips!

I started a career with San Diego on OOTP 13. It was very difficult to keep teams together after building them up because once players were eligible for free agency, I could never afford them.
I ended up just trying to acquire a group of young players and prospects who would be ready to play in 2-3 years. I had a nice bunch of talent who were about the same age and we went on to win back to back World Series in like 2021-22 or something.

It's difficult but it can be done.

The AI won the World Series in 2015 in my quickstart.

After that they've had 4 mediocre seasons.

On very hard trading and favour prospects I traded Norris, Upton, Kemp, and various other prospects. In return I got Cano, Sandoval and a few other players to balance out the lineup. I got Barmes at SS for defence, and used Almonte and other Padres players to fill out the OF. C I got a defensive guy.

The pitching is already there for you to win. It's about redistributing what you have in the star players to improve the defence and balance out the team.

But then I find solo leagues are too easy even on very hard/heavily favour prospects .

One of San Diego's problems, is its stadium. It is slanted against the hitter in the worst way; so the traditional methods of building a team will not work there. I had a moderate amount of success in OOTP 13 by building my team around pitching (of course) and prospects with good Gap Power ratings and speed (high doubles and triples numbers for stats only folks). Your typical #3 or 4 hitter may hit 20+ homers, so you need to get people on base, and sustain long runs.

Oh yeah very true I had to change that in the game. Ever since the brought the walk in again this year and added that jumbo screen hitting has improved tremendously. The game has not updated that yet
