Most challenging/fun team to use in OOTP?
Looking to start a new season with a new team in ootp, which teams are the toughest to turn into a winner? Tired of doing fantasy drafts because I outdraft the AI all the time and end up winning the world series and it's pretty boring like that. I've also picked up certain teams and found them pretty easy to have winning seasons with, or easy to make into a winner because they have a few very good prospects that always pan out, like Correa with Houston or Syndergaard/DeGrom in New York.
Any suggestions as to what team is pretty tough to pick up as they are and transform them into a good team with good prospects? |

When you use the draft, let the A.I. pick for EVERY team, including yours.

My Edmonton Rams were tough the first 4 years. The fifth, I won the Cup!

Try a small-market expansion team. Those are pretty tough for the first couple of years, even if you leave trading on normal and try to rob the AI as much as possible
. It still took me four years to make the playoffs and seven to win my first title.

Colorado in my fictional league. Big offense but even good pitching gives up lots of HR.

Right now, in my dynasty league, it'd be Perth. Coming off a 53-109 season, ranked dead last in nearly every offensive and pitching stat.
Financially, they lost 18 million last year, leaving them with a balance of -12 million, so they won't be doing much moving in the offseason unless they're able to wrangle some salary-dump trades, though they'd have to do a lot of trading to free up any budget room. Their farm system is 13th out of 16, so don't expect many up-and-coming stars to help take the heat off. On top of that, they have a history of failure, being the only original team in the competition to have never won it.

The Padres. because their ownership is so dysfunctional. The Phillies and Brewers would also be pretty difficult to turn around.

I'm biased, sure, but the Mariners are a pretty fun team to start with.
They have a number of good guys with high contracts that you can trade for prospects or young stars. I can usually trade Seager and a young prospect for Clayton Kershaw if I want. I can get Cano and a prospect for Corey Seager. They have such a poor minor league organization that I usually just package their top prospects like Peterson and Jackson in deals to get some of the best players in the game and refill the team with my own guys. |
