help please, why are all these players retiring?
Hi all.
I've been playing a historical game from the 1976 season on. All was going great until 1981, when during the season lots of players are being retired way before they actually should in real life. Many others are being released by their teams for no discernable reason. Sure enough, I pulled up the historical transactions list in OOTP and it's littered with probably 200 or so retirements/releases that didn't actually occur in real life. Just to illustrate the point, among the retiring players are the young Paul Molitor and Kirk Gibson. Many of these transactions are set to occur on the '81 strike start date of June 11th but it's not at all limited to then. Anyone else experiencing this and know of a fix, other than manually correcting each errant transaction? Thank you! |

Is this a historical transaction game from a previous version of OOTP migrated over to OOTP23 mid-year?

Thank you. You nailed it on the head, it is a historical game I was playing in OOTP 22 and migrated to 23 mid-season.
Are my only options then to either go back to where I migrated out of 22 and finish the season in 22 or continue in 23 and manually correct each transaction as I go? Not the end of the world to play whack a mole and fix them throughout the season I guess, as I'd prefer not to have to b=go backwards and repeat a few weeks of games. Hopefully it will be fixed by the time I make it to the next season in my simulation...? I really appreciate the help! |

Alas, it’s not fixable via patch or otherwise. The two choices are what you laid out. Tons of manual adjustments (possibly forever after going forward) or to back to 22, finish the season and move it over in the off-season. If it were me, I’d finish the season in 22. Sucks, I know, but hopefully not to much time lost.

Bummer. Thanks. Forever after going forward doesn't sound like a good choice. You don't think it would correct when I get to the next season? If not, it looks like I'm going back to 22 until after the season...

I don't know for a fact that it will l be forever going forward - I don't think anyone encountering the issue has pressed on to find out - but nor do I have a reason to believe it will revert back to normal. If the timing of the jump to 23 from 22 was the cause, that's a singular event is my thinking. The other user that encountered this, as you saw from the posts, decided to go back and finish on 22 and then move in the offseason.
The risk is that it doesn't reset, and you've played out much more than you have already and so may lose more game time investment than you have now. So, I guess it is risk/reward. You can see if someone from the development team comes by on Monday to let you know if it a season-long vs hereafter-problem. Sorry, I wish I knew more about it but the diagnosis and the recommendation to only move in the offseason so as to avoid the problem was the only feedback I got and was sufficient at the time. |

Looks like backward compatibility never entered their minds. Considering the number of issues that exist with every new release in just working correctly with itself, it's probably unwise to assume functionality with any data from past games.

When one tries to import up to a new version of the game a pop up saying what vets already know (from the boards or worse from experience) ought to appear. Words to the effect of “It is highly recommended you only import during the off-season typically between day/month and day/month”. Then click acknowledge to continue. At least then one was warned.
