In season roster updates, non-new leagues

I know that, during the live (i.e., real life) baseball season, you can start a league at any time from the current day and have updated standings, rosters, etc.

I've never played this way, so maybe my question has been around for years, but is it possible to start a league on opening day, play a game per day (keeping pace with real MLB,) and every day keep that same league but download updated rosters? Essentially I want to manage every game, but if a player is hurt/traded/sent down IRL, I want that to be reflected in my ongoing league.

No, that’s not something that would be automatic. Once your league starts, real life is no longer relevant.

there's no automatic way to do it, only way to do it would go into commissioner mode and make all the changes yourself

VERY true! You still have to go back to real life eventually, though.

New here! Less interested in actually playing the game and more interested in kind of keeping rosters updated to real life throughout the season to keep knowledgeable about players. Is that doable in commish mode or what does that allow you to do? First move I made I tried to move an injured player to the minors and he respectfully declined...

In commissioner mode (go to Manager's Office and toggle it on) you are in "God mode" and can do nearly anything to accomplish what you seem to be trying to do. Even skip the process of assignment itself, go to the Player, go to his Editor tab, and bottom lefthand side, just put him anywhere you want.

If you don't want the AI doing any moves whatsoever and be in complete control, there are also toggles in the Settings to restrict everything.
