September 1888 Update

St Louis Browns and New York Giants have held their leagues in check for most of the season. Both leads have swelled during the past month. The Washington Nationals have
slipped farther behind and now the season is lost, 8-19 record in August helped that along. But all is not lost, Rookies Bill Vinton (5-8, 2.79 era) and Ed Delahanty (.291, 2 HR, 34 RBIs)
have performed well

Both of the New England and Eastern Leagues ended their seasons.

June 1st 1889 Update

American League News: The whole league is within 5 games of each other. Not one team has broken out to an early lead with multiple teams being in first place. Ed McKean
(Indianapolis .350, 2 HR, 16 RBIs) is the top hitter with Washington's John O'Rourke at .343. Hank Gastright (Columbus 9-2, 1.91 era) is the dominate pitcher in the league.

National League News: Kansas City is off to the races with their 22-10 record. Charlie Ferguson is perfect for the Cowboys at 5-0. Dan Brouthers (Chicago, .364, 18 RBIs) is
bouncing back from a mediocre 1888 season.

Washington Nationals News: After a 4-1 April, the Nationals crumbled in May to land in last place once again. Hardie Richardson (.206, HR, 13 RBIs) and Germany Smith
(.111, 4 RBIs) have not pulled their weight. A few bright spots thou, 41 year old Deacon White collected his 2000th hit and George Van Haltren pitched a shut out.

September 1889 Update

American League News: Another month goes by as another team is in First Place. Cleveland, St Louis, and Baltimore have sat at the top of the American League. 37 year old Cap Anson
(Cleveland) is sitting at the top of the batters at .348. Rookie Sadie McMahon (Baltimore) leads all the pitchers with his 25-11 record.

National League News: The New York Giants game roaring back to win 15 out of their last 16 games, they move into First after Kansas City stumbled. Roger Connor (Pittsburgh) breaks the
season Home Run record set by Jimmy Ryan in 1887. Connor has 24 long balls. James Burke (New York) pitched his way back from a dismal July to go 8-1 in August. Team mate Will Sawyer went
down with shoulder inflammation and is out for the rest of the season.

Washington Nationals News: Mike Tiernan is riding a 23 game hitting streak and is in second place with his .342 batting average. Phenomenal Smith (7-11, 3.31 era) fires our second shut out
of the season during the month of August. We are switching our pitching staff out as they are not performing. John Clarkson leads the league with his 23 losses.
