1963 Hall of Fame
Solomon Stubbs, RF Of course the Home Run King is going to make the Hall of Fame; anything else would just be insanity. Stubbs was the first player over 400 HR and was a prototypical slugger. He hit a lot of home runs, took a lot of walks, and struck out a whole bunch of times too. He did play a very average RF which helped to keep his value high, finishing his career as the best at the position since Brewers Hall of Fame inductee Joziro van der Walt. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 360th overall in 1947 by the Rangers out of Virginia MLB Awards: 10 AS, 8 SS, 1 WS Career Stats: 9912 PA, 2012 H, 472 HR, 26 SB, .377 wOBA, 136 wRC+, -1.8 ZR, 63.6 WAR, 51.2 JAWS Landon Smythe, 1B Smythe was another slugger but was unable to cross over the 400 HR milestone before retiring. Most of his career was spent in Kansas City, where the only 1B better than Smythe also played -- Aiden Massicotte. Smythe's style was the total opposite of the player who still holds the record for most stolen bases in an MLB career. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 43rd overall in 1943 by the Royals out of North Cobb MLB Awards: 6 AS, 7 SS Career Stats: 10198 PA, 2241 H, 393 HR, 140 SB, .367 wOBA, 130 wRC+, 23.4 ZR, 56.7 WAR, 47.3 JAWS Brandon Scoresby, 3B Scoresby retires as one of the top 5 3B in history, behind Alonso Carvajal, Jody Davison, and Emilio Forrest. He was a well-rounded player with slightly above average defense, power, and speed. No 3B has hit more HR than Scoresby, only Deion Lee has more hits, and only Kevin Rorke, a player from the 20s and 30s, has more doubles. Scoresby and Stubbs were teammates from 1948 through 1959 when Scoresby signed with the Reds. Both were on the Rangers 1953 World Series team. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 7th overall in 1943 by the Rangers out of Jupiter MLB Awards: 1 Tomas Reed MVP, 2 AS, 5 SS, 1 WS, 1 PMVP Career Stats: 10174 PA, 2462 H, 310 HR, 176 SB, .338 wOBA, 109 wRC+, 11.4 ZR, 51.1 WAR, 41.9 JAWS Desmond Turner, 3B Turner was the National League equivalent of Scoresby during the same period, but his career value was slightly lower, mostly based on Turner's smaller amount of playing time. Despite playing in more years than Scoresby, Turner actually appeared in fewer games, missing a few good chunks to injury. The Phillies were his first team through 1953 but he jumped ship in free agency to the Reds, signing a 7-year contract. However, in 1954 the Reds traded Turner back to the Phillies where he played another 6.5 years. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 2nd overall in 1942 by the Phillies out of Hortonville MLB Awards: 1 Tomas Reed MVP, 4 AS, 3 SS, 1 WS, 1 PMVP Career Stats: 8889 PA, 2253 H, 239 HR, 64 SB, .343 wOBA, 113 wRC+, -10.4 ZR, 44.4 WAR, 38.7 JAWS |

1964 Top 100 Prospects
The top nine players are pitchers still and Sam Boone is at the top this year after finally signing with the Expos last July. The top hitter is Marty Cantrell, a former high school pick in 1961. He has a well-balanced offensive attack, elite speed, and well above-average centerfield defense. Last edited by stealofhome; 06-24-2019 at 03:32 PM. |

The top draftee was a high school pitcher out of New Mexico, Derek Moore. He has a ton of potential all over the place but will rely on the changeup to develop. 1964 Hall of Fame
Eddie Miguel, 1B Miguel was part of those legendary Rangers teams of the 50s. Brandon Scoresby, Solomon Stubbs, Miguel, and Matt Hammond were future Hall of Famers or borderline candidates that helped them win the championship that year. Miguel led the league in HR four different times and finishes his career with the most for a first baseman and the 4th most all-time. He was also a very good defender at 1B but did actually play a couple seasons at 3B toward the end of his career. Initial Acquisition: Signed in 1945 with the Expos out of the Dominican Republic MLB Awards: 5 Youssef Raadouni GG, 4 AS, 3 SS, 2 WS, 1 PMVP Career Stats: 7478 PA, 1715 H, 394 HR, 112 SB, .353 wOBA, 122 wRC+, 66.9 ZR, 44.6 WAR, 39.2 JAWS Matt Hammond, LF Hammond was a pretty well-balanced LF with some pop, some speed, and good defense. He did miss some time to injury -- a broken kneecap in 1945, a broken elbow bone in 1950, another broken kneecap in 1956, a fractured finger in 1958, a fractured ankle in 1960, and finally a fractured fibula in 1964. He's not a catcher but he does sure have a glass arm. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 79th overall in 1946 by the Indians out of Naples Drafted 2nd overall in 1949 by the Rangers out of Michigan State MLB Awards: 1 Youssef Raadouni GG, 4 AS, 2 SS, 1 WS Career Stats: 6361 PA, 1556 H, 225 HR, 104 SB, .351 wOBA, 121 wRC+, 43.9 ZR, 39.8 WAR, 36.8 JAWS Gustavo Luna, 1B Luna finished his career with the 11th most HR and 3rd most for a right-handed batter. Most of the top HR hitters are lefties. He won the World Series with the Yankees twice and spent all but his last MLB year with the franchise. Initial Acquisition: Drafted 2nd overall in 1948 by the Yankees out of Kansas MLB Awards: 1 Youssef Raadouni GG, 3 AS, 2 SS, 3 WS, 2 PMVP Career Stats: 8632 PA, 1989 H, 318 HR, 10 SB, .357 wOBA, 125 wRC+, 12.4 ZR, 43.0 WAR, 36.5 JAWS |

1965 MLB Playoffs
The Indians won their 6th World Series and the Brewers made it to their 4th in 8 years. 1969 will be a new era and I will definitely reset the finances at that time. There may be some other things in the works too...
