I have found that printing out your spreadsheet instead of trying to split your monitor screen works better and is easier on the eyes.
I have my injuries and fatigue set low. I doubt if i will increase it since i will be using historical transactions and lineups after 1901 anyway.
I would advise doing a backup for each season if you can.
It comes in handy when you make a mistake or theres a crash.
Are you using the real rosters?
I'm looking forward to seeing how Cy Young does and the 1890s Orioles are coming.
I just use my Word doc as the guide. The spreadsheet is no longer needed when simming- but the older I get you are right about the eyes.
Long ago I learned to backup. The 1884 season is so messed up I save every month.
As far as rosters go, I used to just sign everyone up on Nov 15th for the next season. With no FA everyone just sat on the reserve list. Now, I'm a bit weird, and anyone who plays prior to May 17 gets signed in the offseason. Everyone else gets signed during the season at some point. Signing days are the 1st and 15th of the month - keeps me sane and more organized. Rookies debut on date according to Baseball Reference. I only map out the starts of pitchers, I don't sorry about relief appearances. I looked and this is the first time Radbourn got 50 wins - he got 52. Short of playing out every single game, which there is no time, bench play is pretty much out of the question. That's the only downside I have left.
Again, I have played 19th century so much, it took so many times to get the amount of perfection in replay, but here I am.

I try to keep it simple.
I assign historical managers (in name only) just so ai doesn't control team during offseason. After that i release all players that don't get automatically released. I protect the rest of the players so no players get taken in the expansion draft. I have to run the expansion draft. I cant think of the reason offhand. I'm sure there was a reason but i dont remember right now.
I wait till Jan 1st to sign or basically assign all players to correct teams.
I sdave preseason so i change schedule if i need to.
End of regular season and at the end of the year.

Yeah, I get a bit carried away. I've done it so many times it all seems simple. I do not let AI do anything - everything manually. I do have managers in name only. I don't do an expansion draft, I create the teams manually. I even create a whole new league with the AA, UA and PL. What's weird is I do all this work to play 19th century (love it too), yet when it comes to 1914-15 I have never set up a Federal League. Keep it up, I love seeing how it goes.

Red Stockings Need Extras to Top Giants, Lead 1-0 in Series
When the games really matter, the Cincinnati Red Stockings put on their best show, beating the New York Giants by a final score of 9-7 today. Tony Mullane was 2 for 5 with a triple, a double, and a walk, while scoring 3 times. Cincinnati now leads New York 1-0 in the best-of-7 affair.
The game was all tied up in the top of the 12th, until Mullane delivered big-time for Cincinnati, stroking a dramatic run-scoring triple off Bill George. The game-changing hit put the Red Stockings on top, 8-7.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Mullane said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Polo Grounds in New York.

Giants Clip Red Stockings 5-4 in WCS Contest
Behind a bravura effort from starter Mickey Welch, the New York Giants topped the Cincinnati Red Stockings by the score of 5-4 today and got their first win in the 1888 World Championship Series. Welch threw 9.0 innings allowing 4 runs for the Giants. The win moves New York into a 1-1 tie with Cincinnati.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Roger Connor came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Cincinnati pitcher Mike Smith, he hit a 1-0 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 5-4.
"Mickey was throwing free and easy," said New York manager Jim Mutrie.
The next game is set to be played for Tuesday, October 23rd , 1888 at League Park in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Wins at Home to Take 2-1 Lead in WCS
Tony Mullane pitched a gem to help the Cincinnati Red Stockings escape with a tight 2-0 victory over the New York Giants in a low-scoring World Championship Series contest today. The right-handed Mullane threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball in the win, just enough for the Red Stockings on a day when their offense dried up. Cincinnati now leads the best-of-7 series 2-1.
Mullane pitched a complete game for Cincinnati. The right-hander was charged with no runs on 4 hits. He struck out 4 during his 113-pitch performance.
"I just trusted my stuff," said Mullane.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cincinnati.

Almost There: Cincinnati On Cusp of World Championship Series Triumph After 6-5 Win
A clutch 10th inning gave the Cincinnati Red Stockings a walk-off win over the New York Giants and a 3-1 lead in the World Championship Series at League Park today. Young right-hander Lee Viau, 22, pitched well for the Red Stockings. He threw 10.0 innings allowing 5 runs.
In the bottom of the tenth, Hugh Nicol had a chance to deal the knockout blow. And he did, punching a run-scoring single to center off New York pitcher Ed Crane.
"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Gus Schmelz, the Cincinnati skipper.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at League Park in Cincinnati.

Deacon White got his 2,000 career hit.
I was afraid he might get injured and come up short.
1889 is his last season as i won't use Players League at this time.
I'm just not a fan of 1 year leagues.
Pud Galvin is 31 wins short off 300 wins but even closer to 300 losses.

1889 current standings.
Had to backtrack a few weeks.
Accidentally traded Toad Ramsey to Indianapolis
and didnt realize it till he was scheduled to pitch for the Browns.
If the season was over i might let it slide but it would just bug me
when i know i could correct it.
Looks like its nearing the end for The Toad.

latest 1889 standings.
Cap Anson became the 2nd player to hit 3 homers in a game.
Sam Wise was the first to do it in 1888.
