Paul Springer
Pitcher Paul Springer was on the 1962 Durham Bulls team. The photo on the left is from the Fort Myers (FL) News-Press of June 30, 1963, and shows him with the Fort Myers semi-pro team. I'm sure it is the correct Paul Springer because the accompanying article mentions that he had previously pitched in the Pirates and Dodgers systems. The photo on the right seems to fit him as well. It comes from the Fort Myers News-Press of August 11, 1969. Its accompanying article discusses his leaving his baseball coaching position at Cypress Lake High School, and contains a quote from him saying that "I have lived in Fort Myers, on and off for many years."

Fred White
Catcher Fred White was on the 1962 Durham Bulls.
This photo has an interesting twist related to the mitt White is wearing. White was a non-roster invitee to the 1962 Houston Colt .45's spring camp. This photo must have been taken at that time. He is wearing the knuckleball mitt which Paul Richards had designed originally for catching Hoyt Wilhelm. Paul Richards had brought the mitt over from the Baltimore Orioles to the Houston club. The photo was published in the Monroe (LA) Morning World on February 27, 1962. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=white-002fre |

Jack Caffery
John "Jack" Caffery was a pitcher with the 1963 Durham Bulls. As might be surmised from the images below, he was a two-sport professional athlete. He was a center in the NHL, chalking up 3 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs and 54 games for the Boston Bruins. The photo on the left comes from the Milwaukee (WI) Journal-Sentinel of Feb. 22, 1959.
The closest he came to becoming a baseball major leaguer was making the spring roster of the Milwaukee Braves in 1960. He was a non-roster invitee with the Braves in 1959 and with the Houston Colts in 1963. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=caffer001joh |
