Damn Orioles are playing the A's warm. 20 runs in three games, and for today we're only in the *third* inning.

Hardly the point. I'd watch 1965, 1979, or 1992 if they were on offer. I'll suffer through any Mets team, no matter how wretched.

But that's not baseball. Sorry, Rob. I've got other sports to watch rather than the perversions you've inflicted on my baby.

Vogelfat ahead of Rickey's 1982 pace yet?

(note to self: rewatch the 1979 season opener sometime soon. Harry Caray is really impressed by Kelvin Chapman. And we can't even blame it on Harry being drunk!)

Mets in shambles get out-hit 13-11 by the Oaklanders!

Okay, the Metsies also drew a club-record 17 walks (for a 9-inning game) and won 17-6.

The story about the 16-walk game in 1962 at the Dodgers' den had me wonder, well, did they win?

Of course it's the Metsies, so they couldn't just win by 11, they also had to get a pitcher clubbed to (probably) the IL, with a liner hit off Nogosek.

Carrasco looks like a good fit on that A's team.

"He struck him out and the ballgame is ov- oops, no, pitch clock violation."

Ah, a walkoff homer after that would have been something. I'd have eaten my pillow. With some salt, but mostly with rage.

But yeah, Oakland sounds like the movie Major League where they make conditions worse and worse until the team leaves.

Does the stadium have running water? When will players have to use Uber to get to their road games?

Once upon a time I worked on the re-financing of the OACC... not the original Mount Davis fiasco, but a re-financing so the City and County wouldn't EACH be paying $10M per year (90s dollars) for bonds that were supposed to be paid by ticket fees.

Anyway, it was an interesting read. For many years the A's paid no rent, or virtually no rent, for the park. And the field is actually below sea level, because they dug down to build (probably to save on foundation costs). If you've ever been there or seen the train bridge to the BART station, it spans a seasonal creek and tidelands. So the "sewer problems" are real but aggravated by the wetlands it's built on.

I noticed Salt Lake City announced the other day they are starting a group to try to attract an MLB team. It's a smaller market from Vegas but at least people would sit outside for a ballgame and they might be willing to throw money at the A's more than Vegas/Clark County/Nevada. Regardless of market size, I think at this point it's hard for them to make less money locally elsewhere than they already do. Especially if they are saddled with stadium debt for a ballpark.

That incident should have set off alarm bells in Fort Selig on Fifth Avenue, if anyone actually was interested in the game itself. I'm still 100% in love with the pitch clock (although it could be 5 seconds more maybe), but I think they should turn it off when there's two outs in the 9th. Or for that matter maybe the whole 9th and extras. I'm thinking of all the strike 3s for the Giants in the postseason over the years, and all the others for that matter. That was Pitchus Interruptus in its most sinister form!

Five seconds more times 300 pitches is 1500 seconds, or 25 minutes.

There goes 90% of the gain. Clearly, you didn't think this through.

Well the Giants are probably the biggest impediment into all of this.
They would not let them move to San Jose, Fremont, Santa Clara, Palo Alto or anywhere else.

I hope it is resolved soon.
I hate to see a fanbase lose it's team. But they need the situation resolved and quickly.

That hasn't mattered for multiple years, they cycled through 5-6 possible sites in Oakland, including the Coliseum parking lot where they'd already have a ballpark by now.

Instead they chose the most expensive downtown site with environmental cleanup issues and rights fractured among the power company, the railroad, and the port, a long dark gloomy walk from the closest metro station. And the whole "downtown ballpark for office
workers" model is broken in the Bay Area for at least the near future.

Coming across the ticker last night during the hockey playoffs:

"Jacob deGrom throws 4 hitless innings; leaves game with wrist soreness"

Jake, I love you…but you're almost becoming a meme now.

(As I'm no longer caring about the sport, this next bit is just reflex, but old habits die hard.)

Still rather have him than Verlander, though.

The best meme is still the Mets being the Mets.

Carrasco (elbow) goes on IL as Mets' rotation takes another hit

A man of long, flowing, golden locks is on the mound at Citifield today. His uniform is white and blue but the insignia on his hat is wrong, wrong.

EDIT: I was clued in by the Mets road uniforms and the crowd cheering Syndergaard for his strikeouts that my bearings were off by about 3,000 miles.

If Noah is at Corrupt Bank Field, he's going to miss his scheduled start; the Mets and Dodgers are playing in LA (where they still name stadiums after the team…sigh).
