I don't know if you're on 22, but a lot of people have been saying the engine is weird. I actually kinda feel left out never experiencing these "bugs" personally, though checking the "historical simulation accuracy tab" it is interesting that you can very clearly see a line between the seasons I played on 21 and the seasons I played on 22 for my fun save, without me having touched any settings. Just something to keep in mind. I've not messed around with it enough to provide anything more than a warning.

2300 - BYDL - Introducing the Teams

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski, with assistance from TJ Firefly

3 January 2300

BYDL Teams Introduced

As the premier league for recruiting talent to the CBO, the Boston Youth Development League is now an official affiliate of the CBO. That means the league will have additional funding, allowing the league to better organize.

"We've arrived!" BYDL commissioner Black Widow Kenner said.

This season, the BYDL divided itself into organized divisions, which will mean that the league will have more chances to show off its stuff in a playoff system featuring eight teams per season. Before, teams would independently schedule games, sometimes in an unbalanced way. At the end of the season, it was decided which two teams would play in the championship series. As an example of the imbalance, North Charles Bank and South Charles Bank each played 30 of their 50 games versus each other in 2299.

In 2300, the schedule is still being worked out. The CBO has expressed a desire for the BYDL to play more regular season games than the usual 50. Final decisions will be made by the end of the week.

Below are the teams. Most teams have only one jersey, but some teams have alternative jerseys.

Lot to unpack there. I know this is probably a big request, but at some point, once things settle down, can we get an updated map? You've expanded quite a bit since the first post, and some teams have changed a bit. Just the Commonwealth, Nukaworld/Far Harbor not required, though others might disagree.

I like a blatant UPS team. Also nice the Castle can have a team, always seemed a bit lacking there before and that kinda inspired by above request.

I'm going to make a complete map of the CBO and BMU soon. Here is the BYDL.

That wasn't too hard. I'll put together the BMU map tomorrow.

BMU Map

Here is the BMU, which only had one relocation so far (Mass Pike Interchange to Vault 95), though there are other changes coming in time.

Fantastic, was not expecting it so fast, and it's much nicer on the complete map too instead of broken down into regions like it was at the start!

BYDL Settles on 66

The Boston Youth Development League has chosen a schedule, and the magic number is 66. Each team will play exactly 66 games, assuming nothing like incidents or serious weather events prevent scheduled games to be played.

As part of the agreement, Corvega has sold its first line of buses to the CBO, which will be used exclusively by the BYDL. Limited use of train lines are also available, but the lines currently only will run north-south from Bedford Station to Oberland Station with stops at Starlight Drive-In and Graygarden. A full rail line is expected to be ready by 2303, including stations near Downtown Boston with what Nate Howard called "multiple public transportation terminals."

Relating to the BYDL, the bus lines will allow teams to travel farther distances, which will also allow all 24 teams to play against each other at least once, something that has never happened in the BYDL. Most teams would typically play four or five other teams during their seasons due to travel complications. The increased changes could potentially lead to similar changes in the CBO and BMU leagues, though there are no current plans to change the schedule. Howard indicated that would require an expanded schedule that would add at least 24 games to the current schedule, which is at 108 games currently in the CBO.

The BYDL teams will still play what Howard called an "unbalanced" schedule, playing their fellow division teams more often. The BYDL is divided into a North-South association split like the CBO, but teams are not necessarily divided specifically by geography.

"We had some older teams mixed with some brand new teams," Howard said. "Therefore, we tried to divide the teams more along an even split, while also trying to maintain some of the established rivalries since this league began playing in 2288. Not many people realized that there were a few teams of young kids starting to play back then, with just four teams in the first year. It became a truly established league, producing most of our CBO talent in '94. That's when we knew baseball would be the major pastime of the Commonwealth."

Each team will play its division rivals six times for 30 total games, they will play the other six teams in their region four times for a total of 24 games, and they will play each team from the other region once for a total of 12 games. Those 12 games will be in home or road stands, limiting the travel opportunities across the Charles River. With the unbalanced schedule, the number of games adds up to 66, 16 more games played than 2399.

"I don't want to work the players too hard," Howard said. "Playing 66 seems to be about the limit of how many we want to play those young guys so that they are not too banged up by the time they enter the draft. I have heard positive feedback from the players, especially in their upgrades in uniforms. Most had old-fashioned uniforms that maybe had a letter patch to indicate their teams but most just had plain whites or grays for their uniforms. Now, all teams are colorful, just like the BYDL is. We look forward to helping those young guys develop even more for the future of the CBO."

County Crossing Bloodbugs Ship Fireball to Dark

In a move that has left many fans wondering, the County Crossing Bloodbugs have traded 26-year-old minor league LF Steve Fireball to the Dark Bloodworms. In return, the Bloodbugs receive 24-year-old C Ben Neese.

Fireball was considered an outfielder on the brink of being a CBO regular. Signed as an undrafted free agent off a now-defunct traveling team, the Quannapowitt Mud Hoppers, which also produced CBO pitcher Front Porch Potter, Fireball played most of the last three years with the Malden Grognaks. In a total of 177 games, he started 175 there where he hit .310 in his career with 14 home runs and 92 RBI.

Neese is an interesting prospect for the Bloodbugs. A former undrafted free agent pick up by the Warwick Mirelurks, Neese signed with the Bloodworms after he was released in August. In eight games with the Charles View Cannibals of the BMU, Neese did not start and went 0 for 4. While his bat needs a lot of work, he has shown defensive abilities that could make him a worthwhile defensive catcher in the league. That was GM Kyle Wolf's motivation for trading for him after Warwick gave up on him.

"He was on my list of players I had while with Roxbury as an interesting prospect," Wolf said. "We hate to lose a talent in Fireball, but I can see Neese being a good player one day."

Lexington City Secures Bus

Lexington mayor Bethany Pureheart announced today that the city of Lexington would be awarded a bus as the sponsor of the Corvega Assembly Plant. With that bus, Pureheart said that the bus would mostly serve as a transport to different parts of Lexington but would also have a CBO connection. When the Lexington Synths have road games, the bus would transport fans to the visiting stadium.

"We're going to be doing something unique," Pureheart said. "We were the first to produce CBO merchandise. Now we're going to be the first to send fans to opposing cities with a chance to root our team on."

The new lines of buses, called the Corvega Dalmatian after a pre-War breed of dog known for its quickness and spotted fur. The buses will feature those spots, as well as run advertisements to help fund the costs of charging the buses' power cores. Corvega Dalmatian buses can hold 50 passengers.

Currently, Corvega has completed 36 buses with the first 24 promised to the Boston Youth Development League. With Lexington receiving a bus, there are now 25 accounted for. Corvega said that they hoped to complete 50 buses by the end of the calendar year. That could mean other settlements receive the same service as Lexington.

FHE's Faulhaber Has Practice Tantrum

FHE Yao Guai reliever Gabe Faulhaber had a meltdown at practice when told to pitch better. FHE pitching coach Dan Bushman was unhappy with the fifth-year pitcher's efforts during practice, prompting Bushman to call Faulhaber out. Faulhaber responded by launching expletives at his coach and throwing a water cooler onto the practice field.

"We had an incident with Gabe today," Yao Guai manager Travis Lawver said. "He will be sitting for awhile and we'll probably suspend him to start the season. That was uncalled for."

Lawver said that Faulhaber had improved since he was sent to the Yao Guai in a trade with Oberland, but they still expected his CBO numbers to improve significantly to stay with the CBO club. Lawver also expressed that Faulhaber showed a lack of maturity by reacting to his pitching coach's words the way he did.

"He has to take criticism and build on it," Lawver said, "not blow up like an atom bomb."

17 January 2299

County Crossing-Atom Trade: Rickashaw for Tarberry

The Bloodbugs have reached a deal with Atom, sending 35-year-old RHP Jeff Rickashaw, 27-year-old minor league LF Rodolfo Saldivar and a 4th round draft pick to the Cats in exchange for 25-year-old CF Ed Tarberry and 23-year-old minor league LF Nar Salem. Reports had been hinting at a deal in recent days, but weren't confirmed until this afternoon.

Lifetime Rickashaw has registered a 14-22 record with a 5.41 ERA.

Tarberry has put up a career batting average of .330 with 224 hits, 6 homers and 64 RBIs. He was surpassed on the depth chart in 2299 by Earthbound Bussey.

Salem's Historybuff Stranded in Capital Wasteland

Salem backup outfielder Josh Historybuff took an offseason trip to the Capital Wasteland to visit the American History Museum at Rivet City. Due to unspecified events affecting the area, he cannot immediately leave until a Brotherhood of Steel escort can bring him back. The next envoy is not scheduled until around mid-March, meaning Historybuff will miss part of the 2300 season.

Historybuff was able to relay a message to the team telling of the situation. Salem was more than happy to give him all the time he needs.

Last season, Historybuff appeared in 24 games as a backup, getting 24 plate appearances as a pinch hitter. He had one hit, batting .048 on the season, with a run scored and an RBI.

25 January 2300

Sunshine Tidings Players Hitting Weights

Some Sunshine Tidings players have begun spending less time on the ball field and more time with weights sets for practices. While the Chemists coaching staff is not thrilled with less work on baseball, the staff has acknowledged that team owner Talia McGovern has recently become more outspoken about her team goals. That means failing those goals could have dire consequences for the front office, even first-year manager Webster Builder.

"I'm in my first year managing in the CBO, so of course I want to show I belong here," Builder said. "I want guys to spend all day every day working on being better ball players. If some think lifting weights is going to do that, then so be it."

McGovern has become frustrated with her team being at the bottom in home runs hit in consecutive seasons. Only two players had double digits home runs last season: RF Brighsun Ramos and 1B Jalen Wharton. Ramos finished third in the North Charles Association behind Michael Fogcrawler of Nordhagen Beach and Peter Tatoeater of Finch Farm.

One of the players who could benefit in improving his strength is 3B Cy Thompson. A 1st-round pick by Egret in 2298, Thompson came in the trade that sent SP Tony Bertha and talented OF Bat Savelli to the Ninjas. The Ninjas then flipped Bertha two weeks later to Salem for more prospects.

Thompson is considered to have plus-power potential but only managed four home runs in what proved to be half a season as a starter for the Chemists. Should Thompson ever realize that power, he could compete with Ramos for the team lead.

26 January 2300

Adamantium's Jerry Out to Prove He's Still Got It

Abernathy Adamantium SP Gerald Jerry was pushed out of Oberland as the team tried to move to youth. After struggling in 2299, Jerry wants to prove with his new team that he can get back to the player that led the Railroad League in ERA, innings pitched, WHIP, BB/9, and BABIP.

"I'm disappointed in me last year," Jerry said. He finished the season 5-11 with a 4.65 ERA and eve was sent down to Fiddler's Green for two games following a stimpack injection.

In 2297 and 2298, Jerry compiled a 24-14 record for the Railroad League champions. The T-51s missed the playoffs for the first time in 2299, partially due to the collapse of its pitching.

CC's Lurkfodder Victim of Intraweb Hacker

Authorities are searching for a computer hacker who has been posting under the pseudonym Sharky Lurkfoder. At first, they suspected County Crossing Bloodbugs 1st-Round Draft Pick Sharkey Lurkfodder of posting the threats but soon found out the spelling did not match.

"We had a suspect at first," Brett Sanders of the Brotherhood of Steel Cyber Task Force said. "Then we discovered it couldn't be him because the perpetrator misspelled the name. We're still looking."

The hacker has been sending threats to all settlements that he would bomb settlements, mutilate animals, and do unkind things to women there. County Crossing had released a message that the person wrote nothing like their Lurkfodder.

"Our draft pick Sharkey is well spoken," Bloodbugs GM Kyle Wolf said. "He speaks nothing like the person writing those posts. He actually sounds intelligent when he speaks."

Authorities plan to frequent ESAU access points, like the Boston Public Library to try to capture the nuisance.

"We'll get him," Sanders said. "Or her. Or it. Whatever him-her-it is."

Quincy's Williams Returns, Reports on Capital Wasteland Incidents

Quincy RF Judgie Williams has returned from his pilgrimage in the Capital Wasteland, but has requested to return to the team on March 1 to recover. Williams was a part of a pilgrimage of people originally from the Capital Wasteland.

"There were some raider wars happening on the north side of the Capital Wasteland," Williams said. "We were lucky to be on boats so they couldn't get to us. That didn't stop some from firing missiles at us."

From Williams' reports, it shows why Salem's Josh Historybuff is currently stranded.

1 February 2300

Lexington Pitcher Injured in Accident

Lexington minor league pitcher Cody Graca seriously injured his pitching hand while operating a ripper while trying to remove a fallen tree near his apartment's front door.

The ripper apparently jumped out of Graca's hands while trying to cut the large trunk, but the autokill feature did not function. He instinctively tried to catch the ripper, severing part of his pitching hand.

Graca was treated and transported to Kendall Hospital where he was undergoing surgery to repair his hand.

"We heard about Cody Graca," Lexington GM Jason Saum said. "Unfortunately, it does not look good for him. We'll wish him the best, but we do not anticipate he'll be with Union Hope in 2300."

In three seasons with the Lifegivers,Graca has a 13-20 record with 49 appearances and 40 starts. He also has one career save and a 3.69 ERA.

Party Boys' Swift Seeking More Attention

He has a reputation for doing anything for attention. Now Nordhagen Beach catcher Mike Swift is putting a bullseye on his back.

"I'm trying to elevate my game," Swift said. "My major goal is to work on my plate discipline. I want to earn more baserunning opportunities. That means, I need to start taking more pitches."

In 405 plate appearances in 2299, Swift only walked 15 times. While he batted .301 on the season, his OBP was only .327. His SLG was really low, too, at only .382. Swift has never hit a home run.

"He's been good defensive catcher and good at making contact," Nordhagen Beach manager Ballhawk Getman said, "but we definitely want him to work more on getting on base more often. We would love for him to develop power, too, but it doesn't look like that will happen. As long as he swings at good pitches, we think he can do well for us."

Case Closed: CBO Rocked by Arrest of Easy Town Killer

One murder is too many. Seven? It has been scary in Easy Town these days as police identified just five days ago what they called the seventh victim of the "Easy Town Murders." According to local investigators, the M.O. followed the other previous murders.

Today, a task force led by famous detective Nick Valentine arrested former Easy Town general manager Ryan Herner, citing considerable and undeniable evidence in the case.

Easy Town Assaultrons hitting coach Kyle Verrecchio's wife, Kay Adams-Verrecchio was one of the victims, prompting the specific interest from the CBO. It was never thought at the time that another member of the Assaultrons personnel was the one responsible for her death.

Nate Howard released a statement after he teleported to Easy Town: "It is with extreme sadness that we learned of who the killer was. The CBO is cooperating with any information we can provide. It is unfortunate that the killer was one of our own, but we are happy he is off the street.

Valentine supposedly noticed a telling sign from clues left at the scenes of all seven victims. That led him directly to Herner who remained in Easy Town after being let go on October 3 by Assaultrons owner Deb Merchant. There have been two more murders since that date.

According to a released statement, investigators found a victims log as well as other targets on Herner's list. One target was specifically named as the Merchants' daughter, Meg Merchant, who manages gaming and events in the Easy Town area.

UP's Nicholson Takes Unexcused Leave

Yesterday, University Point 1B Jeremy Nicholson was informed that he would be starting the season with the Deathclaws' BMU affiliate, the Boston Common Lead Bellies. Today, Nicholson did not show up for practice.

The Deathclaws left only a short response to our inquiries, calling Nicholson's absence "unexcused." There was no further comment from the team.

2300 Nuka Cup Tournament - Day 1

Simmed ahead because it's time for baseball!

3 March 2300

Defending Champions Easily Handle NWL's Orange

Diamond City Swatters' pitcher X10-44 Mannson pitched 7.2 innings, allowing one run on one hit with three walks to push the defending CBO champs into the Winner's Bracket of the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament. They defeated the NWL's Orange Tourists, 8-1.

Oren Gep, Wally Warwick, and Allen Bishop all went deep for the Swatters. Bishop his a three-run shot, making him 2 for 5 with a run and three RBI on the day.

The Tourists managed only two hits on the day, showing that offense is still a problem for a league that barely reached .200 in batting league-wide.

Diamond City will now play Sunshine Tidings, who defeated FHE, 3-1. The teams will meet on Friday, March 9.

All Day 1 results are below.

Cartrette No-Hits Gatorclaws

If anyone on the Wild Gatorclaws team could hit, then they may have had a chance. As it stands, the Gatorclaws met probably the best pitcher in all of the Commonwealth. And he was on fire!

Fort Hagen Silver Shroud ace Mike Cartrette needed only 103 pitches to throw a no-hitter as the Shroud dominated Wild, 7-0. Cartrette walked two and struck out 16 batters in the domination.

Mark Miller, batting leadoff in the game, went 4 for 4 with a double, a triple, a walk, two runs, and an RBI. Jim Tiller was 3 for 4 with three doubles and three RBI.

The rest of the Day 3 scores are below, as well as the Fort Hagen-Wild boxscore.

Atom Pulls Off Upset

The Atom Cats became the lowest seed to win a first-round game as the #22 Cats handed the 11th-seed Lexington Synths a 7-6 loss.

Will Ashfire paced the Cats, going 3 for 3 with a triple, a home run, a walk, three runs, and an RBI. Kareem Caravan added a 1st-inning grand slam off Lexington starter Chad Sweet, trying to earn the ace position with his new team after an offseason trade from Jamaica Plain.

Mike Pigeonfoot led the Synths in hitting, going 2 for 4 with a three-run home run, a walk, a run, and four RBI.

The rest of the Day 4 scores are below, as well as the updated brackets headed into the Second Round. All eight NWL teams could be eliminated in their next game.

UP Throws 4th Starter, 4th Starter Throws No-No

For the second time in three days, a CBO pitcher has thrown a no-hitter in the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament. The first time, it was perhaps the #1 starter in all of baseball. This time? It was perhaps the 96th-best.

University Point Deathclaws starter Bobby Lidtke, battling to be his team's 4th starter, threw a no-hitter in an elimination game, with the Deathclws defeating the Grape Painted Ghouls, 8-0.

Lidtke walked five and struck out 10 in the game, by far his best start in either his CBO or BMU appearances.

Kory Richardson was 2 for 4 with a home run, two runs, and an RBI. Blue Beak hit a pinch-hit home run in the 8th.

Day 5 scores and this game's boxscore below.

Easy Town Trades Burmaster for Dark's Cerilli

In an effort to add some depth to its roster, the Easy Town Assaultrons have swapped 21-year-old minor league RHP Stack Moneyman and 22-year-old minor league 2B Allen Burmaster to the Dark Bloodworms for 20-year-old minor league RF Ken Click, 19-year-old minor league C Cola Crabtree, 20-year-old minor league RHP Yule Felttip and 26-year-old minor league 1B Zach Cerilli.

The Assaultrons GM Marco Pacheco told reporters, "We saw a chance to upgrade our ball club and took it. It was much easier to do it while we're all sitting around here in Nordhagen Beach and before the Bloodworms head back to Nuka-World."

Synths Recover to Blow Out Nukalurks

The Lexington Synths were the highest seed to lose in the First Round of the 2300 Nuka Cup. Instead of brooding, they came back to blow out the Quantum Nukalurks, 15-0.

Lexington starting pitcher Greg Mardis threw 8.1 innings, allowing just two hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. Chris Glass House completed the 9th for the final tally.

Seven different Synths batters homered in the game, making up the making up 10 of the Synths' 15 runs. Lexington hit three homers apiece in the 2nd and 7th innings. Mike Pigeonfoot hit a 1st-inning home run that proved to be the game-winning hit.

The NWL went 0-16 in the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament. While the league has some talent, it has a long way to go before it can compete well against CBO teams.

Full Day 6 scores below.

We have ourselves a tournament no-hitter! Would this be the first? I know for sure there have been in the CBO regular season (even a few real close), but not sure for NWL
