That's all I got.

As a Phillies fan, the Mutts are going to be fine. Too much talent there. Atlanta has more serious starting pitching issues after the first two. And both Freid and Strider were mediocre prospects with bad numbers in the minor leagues who came out of nowhere. How does that happen?

No. You think of something like deGrom. #272 pick that was supposed to replace Gonzalez Germen (oof) in the pen, until Dillon Gee's arm also fell off, and the Mets were forced to toss him to the Yankees as fodder, thus finding themselves a 2-time Cy Young by accident.

Fried especially was a #7 pick. Strider was taken in the fourth round, perhaps for injury concerns (he had Tommy John the year before he was drafted out of college).

Mets are doomed. And it's not even May.

At least they are not the Royals, just saying. :P

One of you (Westy?) was a Daniel Murphy fan, I believe. Here is what he is doing now.

Baseball’s ‘Peculiar’ Pull Draws in a Former Star

Daniel Murphy was a three-time All-Star and earned nearly $80 million. Three years after retiring, he is attempting a comeback in the independent minor leagues.

I have rarely had the urge to switch off a baseball game in the second inning.

This is one of those days.

Ha ha! I had the exact same urge last night, only in the first inning! And I indulged it, as soon as that guy hit his grand slam.

Wife was surprised; this was one of her moral superiority episodes in which I was to have gratitude for being allowed to watch sports instead of dress shows and such.

I explained to her that, over the years, fans can acquire intuition about the fates of their teams given things like:
  1. How the team has been playing recently.
  2. Certain trends like, as in this case, starting pitching has stunk.
  3. How well the other team has been playing recently.
I told her that, in my opinion, I am good for about 80% accuracy when I get that feeling, and the TV screen goes dark at that point. Not usually in the first inning, I will grant you, but I had that feeling strong last night.

When I saw the final score later, I congratulated myself.

Of course I'm still watching. I'm also bitching at them constantly.

The Mets - when you spend $300M on players and still have to get a whole pitching staff off Wish.

Now, I just turned on your team's game at the exact moment that somebody named Murphy (not Daniel, and playing for the opposition) hammered a three-run homer to make the score 9-5, Braves winning in the 7th inning.

This I didn't bat an eyelash at, and I will watch this game to the end and enjoy it. Funny how that is, isn't it?

Hey, we're not a *great* show - but right now we're the only show in town.

"Eduardo Escobar goes deep and the Mets are not - dead - yet!"

(Baty floats out to right)

But now they are.

Some good news buried in that, though, perhaps. Just saw the info box: Baty in 8 games batting over .400 with 2 homers and 3 RBIs. I saw the replay of the homer he hit in today's first game; it was hit with authority.

This feels like its turning into a Monty Python sketch . . ."we would have killed to only be down 8 runs in the first inning, we were down twelve AND four of our players were struck with malaria . . . Only FOUR??? We ........."

I see we have reached the part of the season where the Mets are followed around by a rain cloud wherever they go.

Saturday: rain
Sunday: rain
Monday: double header
Tuesday: rain
Wednesday: double header, maybe, or rain, or the rapture, who the **** knows?

Keith is getting old, imploring Mets fans - while Riley Greene's bomb is still soaring towards Canada - to not head for the exits yet, because not all hope has to be abandoned.

I thought more of a ledge anyway.

Oh god, while I am typing this, Baez hits another one.
