Exciting stuff, even if pre-season generally isn't my cup of tea. That said, I do really, really like what you've done with pre-season. It's a really fresh take on warming up, rather than just having everybody do spring training which would be boring, and I don't think I've ever vocalized that. I'm just generally not one to put much faith in pre-season lining up with how the actual season will actually play out. Though maybe since you have something special going on here I need to rethink my position and treat these cups with a bit more respect. I'm just used to soccer where most such competitions' names can barely be said without being followed by a sly snicker.

There were THREE in year one and countless other 1-hitters and 2-hitters. The offense league wide batted under .200. I messed up those stats for sure!

In an elimination-style tournament, I don't think this is telling of which teams are good or not, for the most part. It is obvious that the CBO outclasses the NWL, which is the way it should be, but in a one-game setting, any team could beat any other team.

It is fun, though, to have a tournament. I just wish there was a way to keep the stats without them being added to their regular season stats. Because of that, I just make these games exhibitions. It is not as substitute-happy as a Spring Training game, but I also don't know how hard teams try to win in an exhibition game. I enjoy the big tournaments, so I like doing them! I knew I would merge the tournament at some point! Geography is not a hindrance in my universe anymore now that there are Corvegas and buses and trains. I guess I could incorporate fast travel, but that is something still reserved as a superpower by the Sole Survivor.

Deathclaw threw 114 pitches, allowing three singles, walking one, and striking out eight. Hid Matsumoto was 4 for 4 with a walk. Ayag Mour had the game-winning hit, a three-run bomb in the 8th inning.

Chet Arthur suffered the loss despite throwing seven shutout innings. However, the home run allowed to Mour was the difference. He went 7.0 innings, allowing three earned runs on nine hits with two walks and six strikeouts in the loss.

Yeah... about that... almost commented on it on a previous article, but I almost asked why teleportation isn't for everyone by this point

2300 Nuka Cup Tournament - Day 8

Today in the CBO

News and Notes - Reports from around the Commonwealth

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

10 March 2300

County Crossing Bloodbugs Ship Hudgens to Quincy

The County Crossing Bloodbugs swapped 20-year-old minor league RHP Greg Hudgens for 20-year-old minor league LHP Lobby Chairleg and 21-year-old minor league C Jermaine Dent of the Gunners after what Quincy officials would only characterize as "difficult" negotiations.

The Slog's O'Dell Slugs His Team to Victory in 11

Infielder Terry O'Dell enters his second season with The Slog Ghouls, not having hit a home run for them in his first season there after being traded from Vault 81. Today, he became a hero when he hit a two-run bomb in the bottom of the 11th, giving the Ghouls an 11-9 victory over Salem at Hubric Comics Park in Fort Hagen. The Slog will now move on to face the home host in the Winner's Bracket.

O'Dell only had one at bat after coming on as a defensive substitute in the 10th inning. Catcher Shawn Cherry led the Ghouls in hitting, going 3 for 6 with a run and an RBI. Boots Yellowhair and pitcher Bruce Iddings each knocked in two runs.

The Witch Hats got a lot of power from both Chris Treestump and Antonio Toeclaw, who each hit two home runs off Iddings. Toeclaw's two home runs were two-run homers, while Treestump hit two solo shots.

All Day 8 scores are below, as well as updated brackets.

Wash's Pinch-Hit, Walk-off Homer Saves Chemists

Sunshine Tidings Chemists reserve infielder Greg Wash has hit exactly one career home run. That came in a rare start in 2296 while with the Atom Cats off Warwick's John Diner, now of the Victory Cave Crickets in the NWL. Wash has now hit two, as his pinch-hit, two-run home run led his team to a 4-3 walkoff victory over the Concord Radstags in an elimination game in Fort Hagen.

Facing newly-acquired Aaron Still, considered by most scouts to be the CBO's second-best closer, Wash took an 0-2 changeup over the right-center field fence, sending the Stags home.

The home run gave Danny Beerholder the win. He pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs on six hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts. His performance overshadowed Concord's Phil Cecil, who allowed two earned runs on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts.

The Chemists' rookie third baseman Cy Thompson hit a two-run home run in the 2nd that gave his team a 2-1 lead at the time. Pockets Aintfull, a second-year player for the Stags after being traded by The Slog midseason, hit a go-ahead homer in the top of the 8th that Gave Concord a 3-2 lead.

The rest of Day 10's elimination scores are posted below.

15th-Inning Walk-off Boosts Quincy Further in Winners' Bracket

On a day that featured three shutouts, including two two-hitters, it was the extra-innings battle between the Quincy Gunners and Jamaica Plain Red Rockets that stole the show.

Tied in the bottom of the 15th with two outs form Rockets reliever Little Jemmy Madison, Curtis Slingshot walked on four pitches. Then, with a 1-2 count, the Gunners' Mike Black made Madison pay for a poor slider, tagging the 1-2 pitch for a walk-off RBI double, stealing the game for Quincy, 7-6.

The Gunners had to make a mad comeback late in the game to push it to extra innings. Heading into the bottom of the 8th, Quincy was down 6-2 against Jamaica Plain starter Will Rope. Thirty-five-year-old reliever Prince Arthur then came on in relief. Slingshot led off the inning with a double. After Costantino walked, Robbie Adams doubled in Slingshot to make it 6-3. After two straight strikeouts, Steve Gunkill then hit a two-RBI single to cut the lead to 6-5. Arthur was then pulled for Steven Rockman, who got the Red Rockets out the inning.

In the bottom of the 9th, Doug Dee El came on in relief. He gave up a leadoff single to Baywatch Fischler, and then Ben Pettinato reached on an error. With one out, Costantino singled, but Fischler was thrown out at the plate, making it two down with runners at first and second. Danny Brainwash came is as a pinch runner and then scored with Adams hit an RBI single to tie the game, 6-6.

Three Gunners had three hits apiece: Gunkill, Fischler, and Costantino.

Carney Cornseed and Cody Flatt each homered for Jamaica Plain. Cornseed drove in a total of three runs. Flatt had two of his team's three errors. Quincy had five errors, with Adams having two of them at SS.

The rest of Day 11's Winners' Bracket Games below. Fort Hagen is the highest remaining seed in the Winners' Bracket as the #2 seed. #5 Quincy, #9 Abernathy, and, the biggest surprise, #22 Atom still remain as undefeated in the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament.

And then they don't survive in an offensive dud.

But, yes, without the "offensive" part, this could have been a much different story.

Duck Singles Hancocks to Next Round

Good Don Duck hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 9th to walk off Goodneighbor to victory, 8-7, over Nordhagen Beach in an elimination game.

The run came in the bottom of the inning where the Party Boys had tied the game. With Ryan Combs on third and one out, Brandon Wackson hit a pinch-hit sacrifice fly to make the game 7-7. Norhagen Beach had come back from a 7-1 deficit in the game.

Four Boys went deep in the game: Dustin Mart, Brian Masterson, Jonathan Angelou, and Ginger Rogers. The Hancocks' Game MVPO, John Rose, hit their only home run. He was 2 for 5 with a double, a home run, two runs, and four RBI.

The rest of Day 13's elimination games are shown below.

Cats Shock Fort Hagen, Move to Winners' Bracket Final

The Atom Cats may have entered the 2300 Nuka Cola Tournament as the #22 seed, but that has not stopped them from setting high goals. After a 6-4 win over #2 seed Fort Hagen, the Cats have now clinched at least third place in the tournament.

Shortstop Jake Doucette paced Atom, going 2 for 4 with a walk and three runs scored. Jeremy Schoolboy doubled twice, scored twice, and knocked in a run. The first four batters all had two hits for the Cats.

Fort Hagen outhit the Cats 15-10, but they had a hard time turning those hits into runs. Five Shroud players had at least two hits, with three--Well Done Dungan, Jim Tiller, and Andrew Nuka--all having three, all singles. Dungan and Mark Miller, who doubled twice, each scored twice.

Scruffy Taguchi pitched well for Atom, allowing two earned runs on 10 hits with two walks and a strikeout in 7.0 innings.

Fort Hagen now moves to the Losers' Bracket, where they will "host" the Diamond City Swatters in Diamond City. All remaining games will be played in Diamond City. Atom moves on to play Abernathy, who defeated Quincy, 7-6.

Full Day 14 games and updated brackets are below.

15 March 2300

Adamantium's Jerry Fools the Toms

Abernathy Adamantium starter Gerald Jerry dominated in a 4-1 victory over the Atom Cats, pushing the Adamantium into the championship round of the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament.

Jerry held the Cats to one earned run on five hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 8.0 innings. T-Bone Heagy pitched a scoreless 9th to preserve the victory.

Austin Engill's two-RBI triple in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the game-winning hit, putting Abernathy up 3-1 at the time. Eight of the Adamantium's nine hits were singles.

Shane Stabb had three singles for Atom. Jake Doucette had two hits, including an RBI double.

The rest of Day 15's scores are below. Goodneighbor and Fort Hagen each won the early games, leading to a showoff in the nightcap with the Hancocks earning a 6-3 victory over the defending CBO champions. That means that Atom and Goodneighbor meet in the early game tomorrow for the right to play Abernathy. The winner of the first game must beat the Adamantium twice to claim the championship, meaning the winner of the first game must have a 3-0 day.

18 March 2300

Atom Survives in 13

Earthbound Bussey reached on an error to start the bottom of the 13th, stole second and third base, and then scored on Will Ashfire's RBI single to give the Atom Cats a 5-4 victory over Goodneighbor and a spot in the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament championship against Abernathy.

Kareem Caravan was 3 for 5 for the Cats with two home runs, two runs scored, and three RBI. Jake Doucette tripled and scored for Atom's other extra-base hit.

The Hancock's Zachary Utsinger had another strong outing, going 3 for 5 with a home run, a run, and two RBI. Three players each doubled for Goodneighbor.

Adamantium Hold Off Cats for Nuka Cup Title

Steve Settler had a three-hit day and Dan Neo doubled and homered as the Abernathy Adamantium defeated the Atom Cats, 6-4, for the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament championship at the Great Green Jewel in Diamond City.

Settler finished 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored, and an RBI. Neo was 2 for 4 with a run and two RBI.

Atom starter Bad Company Grognak had a 6-1 lead entering the 9th and going for the complete-game victory. However, he could not complete the game after giving up three runs in the inning. Jim Livermore came in to strike out Jake Doucette with the bases loaded to end the game.

Kareem Caravan led off the 9th with a single, followed by Alec Bullets walking. Garrett Machine then doubled in Caravan, making it 6-2. Steve Mech then followed with another double, scoring Bullets and Machine for the 6-4 score. Grognak walked Machete Thompson and then got Earthbound Bussey to ground into a double play before being pulled.

Grognak finished the game allowing four earned runs on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts in 8.2 innings.

The Adamantium got the game's scoring started in the 2nd inning. With one on and nobody out, Neo took Atom starter Jeff Rickashaw deep for a 2-0 lead. Abernathy tacked on another run in the 3rd before doubling their score with three in the 6th. With Callie Love on second and one out, Jim Waples singled him in for a 4-1. lead. Steve Settler and Donny Kowalski then hit back-to-back doubles to push the score to 6-1.

"Hold on to your hats and toupees, boys," Abernathy coach Chase Stingwing said to the team after the game. "We are coming in 2300!"

Full scores, boxscore, tournament brackets and the winning banner posted below.

April 2300 - BNN Weekly Report - April 3

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

3 April 2300

Baseball News Network Buys Out Publick Occurrences

A staple of Diamond City for more than years than I can remember, started by my darling older sister and owner of the BosCom and the Baseball News Network, the Publick Occurrences daily paper is now going digital. Starting today, we are a part of BosCom and will move to a weekly digest format.

What won't change is the best coverage of happenings in the Commonwealth when it comes to baseball. What will change is that the daily scores will be posted but features are covered in a weekly "digest" format where we report what happened around the league, analyze the performances of individuals and teams, and look ahead to what's coming.

Our readers thought the stories were becoming tiresome, as though there were 5 or 6 different preconceived stories with different players and numbers plugged in, and we tend to agree. Therefore, we're moving away from those stale stories to brand new content we hope your the viewers will love.

Also, join me on Monday nights at 7 PM on BosCom Channel 3, the BNN, for weekly analysis from my point of view. We'll have weekly guests, a brand new highlights show, and hear from players around the league. We're looking forward to 2300 being the most exciting baseball year yet.

Feature: Pam's Picks

Opening day is here, and it's time for the illustrious assaultron, P.A.M., has made her picks. Based on her selections shown below, PAM has picked the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys to defeat the Vault 81 Dwellers for the Sole Survivor Series.

Based on her predictions, the following teams will be in the playoffs:

North Charles Association
1. Nordhagen Beach
2. Fort Hagen
3. Starlight
4. The Slog
5. Abernathy

South Charles Association
1. Vault 81
2. Goodneighbor
3. Quincy
4. Jamaica Plain
5. Diamond City (tiebreaker over FHE)

Roxbury is again predicted to have the top pick in the draft.

Starlight's Zeldolph Violet and Tom Jones of University Point are expected to be the Nuka-Hitter Award winners. The Vim! Pitcher Award picks are Tommy Beach of Nordhagen Beach and Jamaica Plain's Chris Teddybear.

Feature: Top Prospects

BNN has posted its Top 100 Prospects list for 2300. The full list is below, but let's take a look at the Top 10 overall, with Roxbury leading with four players:

1) 3B Deerlord Fugivmee, 21, Roxbury Rad Sox - Will make his premier on opening day with the expectation that he starts at 3B and bats leadoff for the Rad Sox. He will then literally be the first batter in the Rad Sox history.

2) CF Maxx Murtagh, 23, Nordhagen Beach Party Boys - He's probably not happy about it, but Murtagh will be starting the season with Greentop Nursery as he waits his turn in a loaded Party Boys outfield. He'll start in CF and bat 2nd for the Night People.

3) 1B Lannie Tykeson, 22, Easy Town Assaultrons - An exciting two-way player, the Assautlrons are going to let Tykeson concentrate on his big bat early in the season, leaving him off the starting rotation. He was a late-season call-up in 2299 but never pitched, starting five games at 1B. He is expected to bat third in the order.

4) RHP Eugene Gym, 21, Roxbury Rad Sox - A huge talent and one of three potential aces on the Forest Grove roster, Gym needs to get his pitches up to their potential before he will find success. Still, Roxbury has to like what they have in him.

5) RHP Mike Rubric, 22, Abernathy Adamantium - While he is expected to one day be the Adamantium ace, they have designated him for the bullpen on the CBO club. Should some of the starters falter or get injured, he could work his way permanently into the rotation.

6) RHP Nuke Laloosh, 19, Roxbury Rad Sox - The #1 overall pick this offseason, Laloosh is considered a future ace. Roxbury will be watching how he does in his first season with the Pugilists.

7) 1B Ajani Peacock, 20, County Crossing Bloodbugs - Peacock looked so good in his one year in Malden that the Bloodbugs have called him to the CBO team. Peacock was penciled in to bat leadoff as a first baseman, a rare position to find a player in.

8) SS Tib Shorthop, 20, Finch Farm Four Leafs - Shorthop was a late-season callup for the Four Leafs but struggled in his 16 games played as a true rookie. He is already a top defensive shortstop, but he's going to have to learn how to put the bat on the ball better before he is truly ready to be an everyday player.

9) RF Base McAndrews, 25, Finch Farm Four Leafs - McAndrews believes he has worked his way into a CBO role, but Finch Farm currently disagrees, sending him to Galleria for the season. There he will man RF and bat leadoff.

10) LHP Whokill Poole, 20, Roxbury Rad Sox - A free agent signing that has shown a lot of promise, Poole may find the numbers working against him in his bid to make the Roxbury roster with Gym and Laloosh ahead of him.

The Schedule

Opening day features cross-divisional matchups with a few to keep an eye on. All we know is that baseball has begun, and we are just as excited as you are!

The defending champions, the Diamond City Swatters, host the SCA's expected top pitcher in Chris Teddybear and the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. The team expected to win it all in 2300, the Nordhagen Beach Party Boys, get a tough road matchup against the 2300 Nuka Cup Tournament champions, the Abernathy Adamantium. The new-look Oberland T-51s face Tom Jones and the University Point Deathclaws. Starlight and Zeldoph Violet host Easy Town, looking to turn around their poor 2299 season. Finally, a 2299 playoff matchup commences when Goodneighbor travels to Vault 81 to take on the Dwellers.

One note - The Warwick at Roxbury game has been postponed until tomorrow due to multiple radstorms in the Roxbury area. Games 1 and 2 will be part of a doubleheader tomorrow for the teams, with Game 1 featuring the Mirlurks' Jerry Weisman facing off against the Rad Sox's Beachboy But.

Other Day 1 matchups and starting pitchers are listed below.
