Hey, I don't need to know about Buck's sex life! If he's got guys "entering" his "circle", that's his own business!

(cf. David Bowie's "The Width of a Circle" to understand why my mind went there.)

In other news, I saw on the ticker during the hockey on Thursday night that Peeeeeeeete hit his 19th of the season, already. And I believe we're not even 1/3 done, yet. That's an impressive pace.

Also on Thursday, per ticker, Conforto went 4-4 and hit his 11th. That's nice to see. Even if it is for the Blind Squirrels.

Pete hit his 20th yesterday.

Pete is awesome.

Pete will one day be on a team that deserves him.

Aaron did not hit his 20th until June 3 last year.

But the season started late.

I just realized that I write "one day he'll be on a team that deserves him" a lot. Just wrote it again for Lando as a Youtube comment.

Oh yes, I remember that now. But only a week late, I believe.

In any event, it's sustained productivity that ultimately counts. We'll see how he does on that score this season.

Pete has proven himself to be a bona fide star player, regardless. And a great teammate; I saw him at various times during the recent doubleheader, standing on the top steps and waving a towel in circles. He looked like a little kid grown very large.

It's like a double-header! A tidy 2-0 Mets victory ended literally just in time for the beginning of the Yankees telecast from Seattle at 9:30PM EST. I am happy, indeed (and thank goodness for the pitch clock).

I know nothing about baseball. In the third inning, when the Mets went to the corners with nobody out, I boldly predicted that they’d disappear for no runs, going pop, pop, whiff.

Turns out, they disappeared for no runs, but went pop, whiff, pop.

My bad.

I highlighted the portion of this that made my eyes pop. Wow, it's not often that you see a player's teammate call him out publicly like this. That, if nothing else, is an indication that Vogelbach's Mets days are numbered.

Jose Reyes is retired though.

I'm not sure who they want to replace him with, though. Vientos is atrocious.

Funny how the mind works (especially with advancing age ). When I read that sentence, the eyes said "Jose Reyes" but the mind heard "Francisco Lindor." Thanks for the correction. But still, Reyes is probably only saying what the other guys are thinking. You guys do need a decent DH for sure.

I'm dead tired, can barely keep the little black googly eyes open, and the Mets put Ottavino into a game they aren't already losing. I take that as a hint to crawl into bed because hope is dead.

May Max Scherzer stop whining about the pitch clock soon? I mean, he is practically the only one in baseball doing so.

Toronto is a fun team to watch, except when they're trouncing the Mets.

Pete's precious polar bear paw bricked by punkish prick Charlie Morton.

The grimaces he made while the trainer fingered around in his wounds tell me that I can walk right into the nearest body of water without waiting for the X-rays. Life's no longer worth living without Pete batting cleanup.

X-rays allegedly negative, but it wouldn't be the first time the Mets' medical staff held them upside down or something and they'd have to schedule an amputation for three weeks later anyway.......

Another reason to admire Pete. And a tip of the hat to Morton.

Hopefully, you virtually know me by now. I am not one who comes around to gloat and pile on. I am genuinely interested in the Mets and this is an enjoyable thread to follow.

So, perhaps it is in commiseration that I point out this headline:

If Mets’ don’t end spiral, would anyone be surprised to see Steve Cohen make changes?

Yep, the vultures are already circling.
Quote:
The Mets, the most expensive major-league team in major-league history, sunk to a new low Thursday night, one that ultimately might be responsibile for wrecking their season and costing people jobs.

Unless the Mets turn things around quickly, it is becoming increasingly difficult to imagine Buck Showalter, the National League Manager of the Year in 2022, lasting the entire season. General manager Billy Eppler, at some point, might be in jeopardy, too.
It's nice to have an owner who likes to spend money but Cohen is a neophyte who is only now learning that one cannot buy championships even with $359 million.

I will break with my own standards here and make a comment while I am still on last night's Mets game.

I was gonna post something about whether life without Pete is still worth living.

But it's the fourth inning. Zack Muckenhirn is pitching. The Pirates have double digits.

There could be three Petes in the lineup and the Mets would still be losing. The pitching is so ******* horse *****, no amount of offense can turn that *********** around. ****** defense, too.

Awful. Just awful. If you took a wet towel and beat three random players on the team to death with it, you couldn't hit the wrong one. Ghastly. Terrible. Awful. I was gonna have lunch during this game, but I can't. They're so ******* terrible, you can't keep anything down with them around.

Awful, terrible, absolutely ******* no-good team. I've rewatched every night game that I possibly could on the day after until now, but I'll take the rest of the month of from that. It's not worth it. They're not worth it. They're the worst. They're the absolutely most awful, terrible, no-good, ******* worst.

How many tears can $300M buy? This many:
