The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired center fielder Jung-hoo Lee from the New York Yankees in exchange for first baseman Coby Mayo, center fielder Jack Lausch and minor league starting pitcher Jonathan Stiever.
Signed by the Yankees as free agent in the offseason, he had previously played for the Boston Red Sox, Lee missed the start of the season with a strained posterior cruciate ligament, but since then has hit .295 with three home runs and 14 RBIs in 36 games/35 starts.
Lee, 30, is currently dealing with a mild oblique strain which may prevent him from playing right away upon joining the Cardinals.
Lee broke into the majors with the New York Mets in 2023 after leaving South Korea.
He played with the Mets through 2028, after which he played one season in Boston before signing with the Yankees as a free agent.
In 875 MLB games/860 starts, he is a .262 career hitters with 55 home runs and 318 RBIs.
Like Lee, Mayo was in his first season with St. Louis after being acquired in an off-season trade with the Baltimore Orioles.
Mayo, 27, had mostly struggled in his first season with St. Louis, hitting just .207 with 16 home runs and 35 RBIs in 74 games/73 starts.
For his career, Mayo, who broke in with the Orioles in 2023, is a .245 hitting with 189 home runs and 467 RBIs.
Acquired from Baltimore during the 2027 regular season, the Cardinals had given Lausch plenty of opportunities to win the center field job, but he could never latch on.
This season, the 25-year-old has hit just .174 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs in 48 games.
In 192 career games/176 starts, Lausch is a .204 hitter with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs.
St. Louis signed the 32-year-old Stiever as starting pitching insurance in the 2028-29 offseason.
He has spent the entire season at Memphis, where he has gone 4-6 with a 6.21 ERA in 13 starts.
Over the course of his career, Stiever, who reached the majors in 2020 with the Chicago White Sox, has pitched for the White Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Chicago Cubs, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers and the Cardinals.
He has pitched in 140 games/69 starts, going 22-44 with a 5.32 ERA. He also has one career save.

For Walker, 27, it is his first All-Star selection in what looks to be his best major-league season.
In 78 games, he has hit .285 with 32 home runs and 77 RBIs.
Acquired via trade from the Detroit Tigers in the offseason, this is the second All-Star selection for the 26-year-old Kath.
He has played in 76 games/73 starts and has hit .246 with 16 home runs and 46 RBIs.

This season, Rastelli, 21, has played at Low-A Palm Beach where in 88 games/86 starts he has hit .303 with eight home runs and 48 RBIs.
