June 2300 - BNN Weekly Report - June 18
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO by Nat Wright-Kawolski 18 June 2300 News from Around the League 15 June - Season Ends for Fleming: Clearly dejected, Jayden Fleming left the Warwick clubhouse nearly in tears this afternoon. He acknowledged that his season is over after sustaining a ruptured disc in a ballgame recently. It brings an early end to the Warwick starting pitcher's season. Witch Hats End Swift's Streak: Mike Swift came rolling into today's game against the Salem Witch Hats with a 23-game hitting string, but he left it on the field at Vim! Park of Salem. The 22-year-old Nordhagen Beach Party Boys catcher went 0-for-4 against the Witch Hats as the Party Boys fell, 3-0. "I swung at a couple pitches I probably shouldn't have and I didn't swing at a couple I probably should have," he said, grimacing. "But that's what makes a hit streak so impressive in the first place -- it only takes a couple mistakes to end it all." Swift on the season is hitting .348 with 2 home runs. His stats include 16 RBIs and 27 runs scored. 17 June - North Charles Association All-Star Fan Voting Update: Below are the current standings for the North Charles Association All-Star Fan voting (as of Sun. In exchange, the Cats will receive 21-year-old minor league RHP Chad Adamczyk, 21-year-old minor league RHP Matt Rodrigue and a 5th round draft pick. Since he came into the league, Adamczyk has no saves with a 5-6 record and a 5.15 ERA. Currently Bullets has 3 home runs and a .272 batting average. Trouble in Goodneighbor, Utsinger Suffers Setback: Zachary Utsinger was taking it slow and easy nursing a torn meniscus back to good health, when he suffered a setback. According to a Goodneighbor team official, "Zachary was making excellent progress and it appeared he would return to the squad ahead of schedule. But then he reinjured it in a light workout." Club doctors now say the 21-year-old Hancocks left fielder will be out at least another 2 months. Standings Playoff Picture At the midway point of the season, let’s look at what the playoff picture looks like for each association. North Charles Association #1 – Nordhagen Beach VS #4 Concord vs #5 The Slog #2 Fort Hagen vs #3 Easy Town In the race: Abernathy, Salem, Lexington South Charles Association #1 Goodneighbor (Due to tie breaker of Run Differential +77) VS #4 Diamond City vs #5 Quincy (Due to tie breaker of worse head-to-head record vs JP) #2 Vault 81 (Due to tie breaker of Run Differential +66) vs #3 Jamaica Plain (Due to tie breaker of better head-to-head record vs Qui) In the race: FHE, University Point, Oberland, Egret Team Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Vault 81 Dwellers (125.5, ++) 2) Easy Town Assaultrons (124.3, +) 3) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (122.5, -) 4) Goodneighbor Hancocks (119.5, --) 5) Concord Radstags (114.5, +) 6) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (109.0, -) 7) The Slog Ghouls (107.2, ++) 8) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (101.2, ++) 9) Diamond City Swatters (100.9, ++) 10) Quincy Gunners (99.2, -) 11) Lexington Synths (89.4, ++) 12) FHE Yao Guai (87.6, -) 13) Salem Witch Hats (87.6, --) 14) University Point Deathclaws (85.4, ++) 15) Abernathy Adamantium (83.9, --) 16) Oberland T-51s (82.4, --) 17) Egret Ninjas (78.1, --) 18) Starlight Lady Killers (77.5, -) 19) Warwick Mirelurks (71.7, +) 20) County Crossing Bloodbugs (68.3, -) 21) Roxbury Rad Sox (65.5, +) 22) Atom Cats (63.0, -) 23) Finch Farm Four Leafs (54.2, o) 24) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (46.6, o) Analysis We have hit the midway point of the season, and there are definitely some haves and have nots in the season. We do not know yet who will be there when all 108 games are played, but there are some teams that seem to be locked in for the probable playoff position while a few teams are jostling for who will pick in the Top 5 in the 2300 Rookie Draft. With a perfect 5-0 week, the Vault 81 Dwellers have vaulted into the #1 position and a three-way tie with Goodneighbor and Nordhagen Beach for the CBO’s best record. The Dwellers won in impressive fashion over two decent but struggling teams, both on the road. Vault 81 swept University Point (#14) and then had a perfect weekend at Egret (#17). Despite being in 2nd place in the Brotherhood League, Easy Town is the #2 team thanks to a 5-0 week and a current seven-game winning streak. The Assaultrons won two versus Abernathy (#15) and then went to County Crossing to sweep the Bloodbugs (#20). The Party Boys are #3 with a 4-1 week which also keeps them one game up on the Trons. Nordhagen Beach won two at Starlight (#18) and then won two of three at Salem (#13). The rest of the CBO had better watch out with reports that both Julian Shed and Matt Ranger could return to the team by next weekend’s series versus the Witch Hats. With a 3-2 week, the Hancocks dropped three spots to #4. Goodneighbor started the week out right, beating Oberland (#16) 19-5 and 15-12. However, they dropped the first two games at home of their weekend series against Jamaica Plain (#8) before winning in 10 innings yesterday. The biggest surprise at this point of the season and the top Institute League team in the Top 5 is the Concord Radstags, our featured team this week. With a seven-game winning streak and a 5-0 week, the Stags are now in 2nd place behind Fort Hagen (#6) by only two games. Concord beat the Witch Hats in two games and then won all three at Sunshine Tidings (#24), the CBO’s worst team. For individual accolades at the midseason point, FHE’s Joe Rathmann still looks to be the leader in the CBO MVP race. Rathmann’s only true competition for the Nuka-Hitter Award in the SCA is Diamond City’s Oren Gep, who trails in WAR 4.8 to 4.4. Gep has a five home run advantage for the CBO lead over Atom’s Will Ashfire. In the NCA, the race is a bit tighter, but Fort Hagen’s Ben Pawlak (3.9 WAR) seems to have the current lead. His two strongest competitors are Easy Town’s Sean Samuels (3.5) and County Crossing’s Biter Trout (3.4). For pitching, the NCA’s first-half leader is probably Nordhagen Beach’s Tommy Beach. Unfortunately, he will not play most of the second half of the season due to injury, so he is out of the Vim! Pitcher Award running. In his place, Derek Green of the Silver Shroud is probably next in line. Green is second in ERA and tied for the NCA lead in wins. The SCA is harder to determine just because there are a lot of players pitching great. Our lean here is a good pitcher on a terrible team, Roxbury’s Beachboy Nut. Nut is 8-4 and leads the CBO with a 2.36 ERA. A few other contenders are Diamond City’s X10-44 Mannson, University Point’s Quentin Malone, Vault 81’s Edwin Mass, and Jamaica Plain’s Chris Deathclaw. Team Focus: Concord Radstags In 2298, the Concord Radstags were close but not close enough to making the playoffs, finishing just four games back in the regular season of both Abernathy and Fort Hagen in the IL. Outside of that season, they never finished above 5th. This year, though, they have shown a hot streak that could boost them to a chance to make the playoffs for the first time in 2300. Concord has won six straight, 7 of 8, and 9 of 11 to start June at 10-3. Should they continue to win, they could challenge Fort Hagen for the league title. Statistics can lie because the Stags are finding ways to win without being a dominant statistical team. Part of that lies in being among the best teams in one-run games (9-5) with only Easy Town (14-5) and Egret (9-4) better and tied for the best record in extra-inning games (5-1). With the 5th-best runs produced (252) in the NCA, the Radstags do not look to be a great offensive team, but they are top heavy. Dan Erb (.357/11/50) could work his way into the Nuka-Hitter Award if he finds away to improve his home run numbers. Gene Leftswipe (.344/6/39) and Sean Koester (.309/4//14) also offer support. 2B Josh McIntyre (.264/7/32) is a bit underrated at his position but he is consistently good. Otherwise, Concord needs better production from leadoff hitter Pockets Aintfull (.262/1/16) as well as the bottom three hitters in the lineup. You would think the Stags’ success would come from pitching, but they are even worse in pitching categories. Concord is 8th in runs allowed (265) with the 9th-best Starters ERA (4.72) but 2nd-best Bullpen ERA (2.94). Ace Chris Radsco (7-3, 3.94) has been a boon to their success but injured Phil Cecil (4-5, 4.85), Joe Penaltybox (5-5, 4.28), and Mario Bustos (4-5, 5.75) are inconsistent. The bullpen has thus been called upon to make the difference, which it has. Closer Aaron Still, acquired in an offseason trade with Oberland, is in the running for the Fallon’s Reliever Award with 15 saves and a 1.86 ERA. Chopsticks McWilliams (2-1, 1.29) and Old Buck Buchanan (2-0, 1.71) have really helped in the bullpen, too. We hate to predict anything based on what this Team Focus feature has done to teams. Remember the other IL team we featured last week, Abernathy? Yeah, they’re on a seven-game losing streak right now. Can Concord continue to win like they currently have been? Well, if they start hitting better and/or pitching better, then yes. Otherwise, we expect the numbers to normalize and Concord to finish somewhere around .500. If they have reached their peak, though, we hope they enjoy their highest-ever ranking in the Power Rankings and keep working to build and develop talent for their future.

You know, with the lead off story being about the Witch Hats, another team we all kinda like but isn't one of our favorites, I'm struck by how lopsided the geography of our favorites are. Like there's not really a notable team in the SCA Minutemen, despite them having a fair shake, other than maybe the Hancocks but that's by default.

1. Diamond City - A wide city area surrounding the Great Green Jewel. 2. Lexington 3. Quincy 4. Concord 5. Jamaica Plain 6. Salem 7. Roxbury 8. Easy Town Eight other teams have appeal but are still not as big: Nordhagen Beach, Fort Hagen, Starlight, Goodneighbor (S. Boston), University Point, Atom, Vault 81, and Fairline Hill Estates. The rest are farming or basic goods communities, so their population would not be as high: The Slog, County Crossing, Finch Farm, Abernathy, Sunshine Tidings, Warwick, Oberland, and Egret.

June 2300 - BNN BMU Weekly Report
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the BMU by Nat Wright-Kawolski 18 June 2300 News Around the League 12 June - Great Stroke: Lacombe Gets 5 Hits: Deuce Lacombe was smoking all game at the plate, but couldn't finish his day with a victory cigar. After the 19-year-old Natick Banks Big Leaguers center fielder tallied 5 hits in 7 at-bats, he was forced to watch as his club dropped the 8-7 decision to the Postal Square Action Boys. "That was no fun," Lacombe said to reporters after the game. "You hate to lose any game but it's even worse somehow to feel like you did enough to win." Deuce Lacombe singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, singled in the 10th and singled in the 12th. This year Lacombe is hitting .366 with 1 home run and 13 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .410 clip and scored 17 runs. 14 June - Freeman Twirls 12-0 Shutout: Frank Freeman of the Outpost Zimonja Strongbacks really did a job on the Lifegivers today at The Cathedral Diamond, shutting them out 12-0. Freeman frustrated Union Hope hitters throughout the game, surrendering 4 hits. He struck out 3 and walked 4 in picking up the victory. This year Freeman has compiled a 5-2 record with a 4.13 ERA. Players of the Week Raybathers Eiland CA Hitter of the Week: Nate Eiland demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Commonwealth Association Player of the Week Award. The Mystic Pines right fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .385 average (5-for-13) with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. In this current campaign Eiland is hitting at a .290 clip with 7 home runs and 28 RBIs. Sandifer Selected Player of the Week: Michaelangelo Sandifer burst onto the Massachusetts Association stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie left fielder for Somerville Place garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy. The 22-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .615 (8-for-13) with 3 home runs and 6 RBIs last week. This season in 34 games, Sandifer has hit at a .388 clip with 45 hits, 12 home runs, 36 RBIs and 31 runs scored. Prospect Spotlight Performances Worth Noting: Here are three players who had an outstanding game in 2300 and what their CBO future could look like. 1B Mike Pushard, Trinity Plaza Snipers (Goodneighbor) Game: 4/18 vs Natick Banks - 4 for 5, 3 HR, BB, 3 R, 5 RBI Season: 50/126 (.397), 3 2B, 3B, 13 HR, 32 R, 29 RBI, 27 BB, 15 SO Analysis: Pushard has some decent talent but may not quite be CBO material as he showed in his two chances on both the Starlight and Hancocks rosters. He has shown patience at the plate, which helps him a lot, and he is now a regular starter for the Snipers. RF John Merrow, Forest Grove Pugilists (Roxbury) Game: 4/25 vs Fiddler's Green - 4 for 4, 2 HR, BB, 3 R, 5 RBI Season: 37/121 (.282), 3 2B, 2 3B, 8 HR, 21 R, 22 RBI, 11 BB, 17 SO, 7 SB, 2 CS Analysis: An undrafted free agent following the 2296 Inaugural Draft, Merrow was immediately scooped up by Fort Hagen. He stayed with the Silver Shroud franchise for 3.5 years before being traded to Roxbury midway through the 2299 season. In his one shot with the Fort Hagen team, he played in and started five games, batting .294 with a home run and two RBI. He is probably with the right franchise to get a solid CBO shot, especially since many speculate that he is currently better than Tim Hardman and Mike Thunderdome currently in the CBO. LF Michaelangelo Sandifer, Somerville Place Sentry Bots (Egret) Game: 5/10 vs Charles View - 2 for 3, 2 HR, 2 BB, 3 R, 6 RBI Season: 45/116 (.388), 4 2B, 12 HR, 31 R, 36 RBI, 28 BB, 19 SO Analysis: Sandifer feels like one of those players who already had his call-up. However, the third-year, former 2nd-round draft pick in the 2297 Rookie Draft is not considered ready. He is possibly on a star path, which will be helpful for Egret in time. He is close, though, and will be ready for sure when Paladin Danse is no longer willing to abuse his synth body. Don't really have anything specific to say right now, but just wanted to hop in and let you know I'm still here reading along. Glad to see you posting again, but I know that life tends to (unfortunately) get in the way of OOTP.

It has been harder not working from home anymore. I was able to find lots of time during those days to do things like write on my dynasty. These days, I hardly sit down at my home desk where I write except maybe an hour or two before I go to bed .

2300 - NWL - June 18
Nuka News Update All the news you need about Bradberton and Nuka World by Evan Guy News of the Week 12 June - Bloodworms End Bobb's Streak: Ryan Bobb's 21-game hitting streak has now come and gone. It was snapped today as the Wild Gatorclaws suffered a 7-1 setback against the Dark Bloodworms. Bobb went without a hit in 4 trips to the plate. He was visibly upset during a postgame press conference, but it appeared that the streak had little to do with it. "The hitting streak was one of those things where it was fun while it lasted, but I'm not going to lose any sleep about it tonight," he said. "On the other hand, I am going to lose sleep about dropping this game today." This year Bobb is hitting .366 with 78 hits, 3 home runs, 13 RBIs and has scored 33 runs. 16 June - Harris Runs Hit String to 20 Straight Games: Orange lost to the Cherry Ghoulrillas 12-1 at Grandchester Mystery Mansion Park today, but Die Harris kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 1 hit. The Tourists first baseman has now delivered hits in 20 straight games. "Die has a nice streak going, but the scoreboard tells the important story today," Orange manager Nick Dev told reporters after the game. "We lost, no matter how many hits anyone had." Die Harris struck out in the 1st, flied out in the 3rd, singled in the 6th and flied out in the 8th. This year Harris has batted at a .355 pace with 86 hits, 3 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 47 times. 18 June - Salvage Bags NWL Best Player Award: A veteran of baseball wars, Justin Salvage knows how to stay with a stroke that's working for him. The 37-year-old first baseman for the Bloodworms batted .545 last week on his way to the Nuka World League Player of the Week award. His noteworthy week also featured 12 hits in 22 at-bats, 5 home runs, 13 RBIs and 8 runs scored. Salvage on the season is hitting .371 with 18 home runs. His stats include 73 RBIs and 43 runs scored. Standings and Statistics Minor League Report Standings and Statistics Player of the Week Andrade Week's #1 Player: At the age of 26, Buckfast Andrade might have some potential he hasn't realized yet -- if his success at the plate last week is any indication. The Quantum B first baseman put up some exceptional numbers the past seven days with a .423 batting average. For his efforts Andrade collected the NWL B League Player of the Week Award. He racked up 11 hits in 26 at-bats, no home runs and 6 RBIs last week in 6 games. Off Topic: Hurricane Ida
Please keep my hometown in your thoughts. The eye of Hurricane Ida, expected to be a Category 4 at landfall, is headed straight for my hometown.
I am likely not to be here for a while, but I do hope to be back writing when I can. Otherwise, it will probably be a long, slow recovery for my hometown.

Hurricane Ida Aftermath
We got power yesterday, thus the internet, so 2.5 weeks of living off generator power has ended. My hometown and the surrounding areas are devastated. Many people I know lost everything, and many more still do not have power. Some may not have power for at least another two weeks.
For my immediate family and our houses, we came out a little better than most. I regretted staying, yet at the same time was glad I could to help out with what I could after. There is still a lot to do, though, and it will take a long time for the coastal area of Louisiana to recover. If you are able to donate to any charities or causes to help the hundreds of thousands of victims around here, please do. Just in case it is never put out there, there were some instruments in the strongest places that measured winds of over 200 MPH. For context, that is equal to an F4 TORNADO, and this was sustained winds for hours. Needless to say, many houses "ain't there no more," as a New Orleanian would put it. Instruments in the place where I was showed sustained winds of over 120 MPH and gusts upwards of 180 MPH. Some of the National Weather Service instruments failed, so Ida is considered to be a Category 4 officially. Actually, it was the strongest ever Category 5 (Cat 6?) storm in recorded history. Climate scientists predict these types of storms will get worse. I think we may be entering the second age of mass extinction that we know of. I hope not. But this is scary. These hurricanes are becoming more normal and more intense at the same time. My workplace needs to be repaired. Thankfully, we can return virtually until it is, which is how I worked for the last year-plus due to health concerns related to Covid. I was only back at work physically for two weeks before I was forced to go back to virtual. At least I have a lot of experience and have routines. Still, we start back on Monday of next week, and I have a lot of adjustments to make for my schedule. It will be hectic busy. I'm also working on my doctorate at a university that was unaffected by the storm, so I have a lot of catching up to do on my schoolwork. I was able to borrow a neighbor's work wifi pack one day to turn in assignments that were due so that I would not be late with them. Today, I need to start back on that work. *Gulp* At the moment, I am sipping on my third cup of coffee, wringing my hands with just how overwhelmed I feel. As an educator, I know many of my students will have the same anxiety, so I want to let them know that my class is not the place to stress. I don't care this semester if they become better writers through the traditional Organization-Content-Grammar structure; I care that they are able to express their feelings and thoughts. I also worked some on my dynasty, so I will post what I got for the next week of the season as we approach the end of June 2300. Just be patient with me in posting. This dynasty had to slow down from my torrid pace, of last year where I wrote on it daily during coffee time before starting my workday. Maybe I can work my way ahead at some point and have more time to dive into the Commonwealth (and other places), but I am thinking those daily sessions will not come again for some time, maybe around Christmas. Otherwise, I will try to post at least once a week if I can. I may even decide to change some things up and summarize the BMU/NWL in a single Standings line or something to get the CBO moving more. We'll see. Thank you all for your thoughts, and I appreciate you.

Great to hear from you and to know that you and yours are all safe. It's hard for those of us who have never experienced such extreme weather to appreciate what you folks have gone through - and will be going through for some considerable time, I'm sure - but our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Hey, was thinking about poking to see if you were okay, but didn't want to come off as possibly seeming to rush you or anything. Here's hoping things can get smoother as time goes on. We don't have hurricanes up here, but we do have tornadoes, so I know it can be rough. Though no specific weather disaster has affected me recently, just stepping outside and feeling the heat and the general feeling that the thunderstorms we get now aren't like the ones we got when I was kid make me share your concerns.

June 2300 - BNN Weekly Report - June 25
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO by Nat Wright-Kawolski 25 June 2300 News from Around the League 20 June - Quincy Loses McDuff for Season: The news was not unexpected, but that didn't make it easier to accept for the Quincy Gunners: starting pitcher Manny McDuff is out for the year. McDuff suffered a torn rotator cuff on 06/19/2300. The team knew that the chances of seeing him return were slim to none. But today it was made official. McDuff has made 15 starts this season, posting 7 wins and 6 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .243 against him and he has 76 strikeouts in 109 innings with a 3.30 ERA. 21 June - Setback for Diamond City and Wayne Lacy: The Diamond City Swatters trainer was the bearer of bad news today, as it was learned Wayne Lacy's injury will keep him out of the lineup for longer than expected. The Swatters right fielder is being treated for a strained oblique. During a routine exam, Lacy's condition was found to be worse than originally diagnosed and he is now expected to rehab at least another 3 weeks. This year Lacy is batting .256 with 6 home runs. 23 June - Hitting Streak Still Alive for Schoolboy: Jeremy Schoolboy collected 3 hits in today's game and extended his hitting streak to 20 games. His club, the Atom Cats, beat the Warwick Mirelurks 10-6. "Right now, when they throw me the ball, it looks the size of a softball," Schoolboy quipped to a BNN reporter after the game. "I'm excited about how things are clicking." Jeremy Schoolboy doubled in the 1st, struck out in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th. Schoolboy is hitting .323 this year with 11 home runs and 44 RBIs. He also has an OBP of .373, 19 walks and scored 34 times. Lernz Tentsleep, the The Slog Ghouls 22-year-old shortstop, put himself in the spotlight last week making him the clear-cut choice for North Charles Association Player of the Week honors. He ripped 10 hits in 19 at-bats, compiling a .526 average with 3 home runs and 7 RBIs. Tentsleep on the season is hitting .259 with 11 home runs. His stats include 34 RBIs and 37 runs scored. Roxbury Center Fielder Nets SCA Award: Edward Cox demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the South Charles Association Player of the Week Award. The Roxbury center fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .579 average (11-for-19) with 1 home run and 5 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. This year Cox is batting .272 with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs. Transactions Sunday, June 24th, 2300 Salem Witch Hats: Activated SP Roberto Gonzales from the injured list. The Slog Ghouls: Placed 3B Stoop Bugwing on the 7-day injured list, retroactive to 06/17/2300. Atom Cats: Signed 2B Bill Morals. Standings Team Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Goodneighbor Hancocks (120.0, ++) 2) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (120.0, +) 3) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (117.0, ++) 4) Easy Town Assaultrons (111.0, -) 5) Vault 81 Dwellers (111.0, --) 6) Diamond City Swatters (106.0, ++) 7) The Slog Ghouls (106.0, o) 8) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (104.0, o) 9) Concord Radstags (101.0, --) 10) Lexington Synths (101.0, +) 11) Quincy Gunners (100.0, -) 12) FHE Yao Guai (92.0, o) 13) Starlight Lady Killers (86.0, ++) 14) University Point Deathclaws (86.0, o) 15) Abernathy Adamantium (85.0, o) 16) Salem Witch Hats (84.0, --) 17) Egret Ninjas (82.0, o) 18) Oberland T-51s (79.0, -) 19) Atom Cats (76.0, ++) 20) County Crossing Bloodbugs (65.0, o) 21) Roxbury Rad Sox (63.0, o) 22) Warwick Mirelurks (60.0, --) 23) Finch Farm Four Leafs (60.0, o) 24) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (45.0, o) Analysis After making a drop in the rankings a week ago, the Goodneighbor Hancocks moved into the #1 position this week thanks to a 4-1 week and the best record in the CBO. Goodneighbor swept Vault 81 (#5), holding them to two total runs. They then won the first two games at Jamaica Plain (#8) in what looked to be a tough week. Vault 81 dropped from the #1 spot to #5, thanks to the sweep at the hands of the Cocks and losing the first two games at home versus Roxbury (#21). Nordhagen Beach did not have the best week, but the Boys from the Beach went 3-2 to move to the #2 position. The Party Boys have the North Charles Association’s best record, only one game back of Goodneighbor. Nordhagen Beach split with Sunshine Tidings (#24) and then beat Salem (#16) two out of three times. Fort Hagen moved back into the Top 5, moving into the #3 slot this week. The Silver Shroud went 4-1 on the week, sweeping County Crossing (#20) and then beating Abernathy (#15) two times. The Shroud now hold a four-game league lead thanks to Concord (#9) going 2-3 on the week. After going 2-3, Easy Town dropped two spots to #4 this week. The Assaultrons split a series with the Adamantium and then lost two in the weekend series versus Finch Farm (#23). That one extra loss dropped the Trons one extra game back in the Brotherhood League to first-place Nordhagen Beach. Our featured team this week is Diamond City (#6). After going ???, the Swatters moved from #9. Now the defending Sole Survivor Series champions are in a serious playoff push for the second half of the season. DC has rebounded from their terrible May to sport a 12-6 record so far in June thanks to having the weaker part of their schedule right now. In fact, the highest-ranked team they played in June has been FHE, in which the Swatters have been 4-2 against. Team Focus: Diamond City Swatters With a good June, including a current 8-2 record in their last 10, the Diamond City Swatters are starting to look dangerous again for the 2300 playoffs. In 2299, they were always near the top in the Power Rankings and finished off the season as the strong team that everyone expected them to be. This season has been something else, but at 33-27 and only three games back of the suddenly struggling Vault 81 in the Railroad League, the Swatters may find themselves as the eventual #2 seed. Offense is definitely not the reason Diamond City has been successful. They are in the bottom half of the league in most offensive categories, including the most important of Runs Scored (10th) with 277. Part of their offensive dropoff can be because of star RF Wayne Lacy’s injury, though he did not have great stats before we went down: .256/6/29. Still, his six home runs ties him for 5th on the team that is 5th in the SCA in homers (69). Of course, the true star of the team is 1B Oren Gep (.364/25/54), a legitimate CBO MVP candidate. SS Wally Warwick (.332/10/44) and LF Tyler Ross (.275/10/30) has produced some pop, but the Swatters definitely miss Lacy’s big bat. Where the batting has struggled, the pitching has stepped it up. Diamond City is 2nd in Runs Allowed (264), 6th in Starters ERA (4.55) and 2nd in Bullpen ERA (3.57). The biggest surprise is not success, but the failures of Tim Fusion (2-11, 6.61). The 26-year-old and 2298 winner of the Vim! Pitcher Award, Fusion’s fall off the cliff has perplexed him, as well as manager Bucky Bachelor and pitching coach Brent Younger. Staff ace X10-44 Mannson (8-2, 2.72) and starter Tyler Powers (10-1, 2.80) are in the Vim! Pitcher Award talks. Fourth pitcher Jason Haynes (0-6, 6.00) is also not a helpful starter. The bullpen has helped in late close games. The leader is closer Josh Samm (17 SV, 2.08). Mike Pond (1-0, 1.77) and Kyle Grogg (1-0, 1.86) have also been dominant in their opportunities. This 2300 version of the Swatters does not seem as strong as the 2299 version. However, do not let that fool you. A team that has experience winning it all is a dangerous team, especially come playoff time. Then again, July may prove to be less successful for the defending champions.
