Cards news: August 6 -- Back injury lands Morlando on injured list; Nido called up from Memphis
The St. Louis Cardinals have placed rookie C/1B PJ Morlando on the 10-day injured list after he had to leave their 7-6 win over the Milwaukee Brewers on August 6 with back tightness.
Called to the majors on June 15, the 23-year-old Morlando has made quite an impact in his first 43 games hitting .237 with 12 home runs and 28 RBIs. He also was named National League Rookie of the Month for July. Morlando is expected to be ready to return after his 10 days on the IL. Veteran catcher Tomas Nido has been recalled from AAA Memphis. Nido, 35, was sent down when Morlando received in callup. In 19 games with the Cardinals, 17 starts, Nido has hit .262 with one home run and four RBIs. |
