Bill See, Tarboro Tars 1948

In his only season in professional baseball, See went 25-6 with a 3.15 ERA to help lead the Tars to the Coastal Plain League championship. As an aside, Baseball Reference refers to the '48 Tarboro team as the "A's." Wikipedia shows them as switching from "Tars" to "A's" in 1949. This photo of See would make you believe that Wikipedia is correct.

Was curious why Bill See played only one year of minor league ball after posting that 25-6 record in 1948. He was the MVP of the Coastal Plains League. As spring training approached the following year, he requested his release from the Tarboro Tars. He was already having thoughts about retiring from baseball, and returning to his job at a mill in Kaiser, WV. Another team in the Coastal Plains League, the New Bern Bears, talked him into signing with them around March 12. He got into one game with New Bern and beat the Wilson team on April 24, 1949. In that game, he started a triple play when a ball was hit to him with the bases loaded. If he appeared in more than that one game with New Bern, I was unable to find such evidence using a couple of different services for newspaper searches.

Bob Bowman, 1938 Rochester Redwings and 1949 Bluefield Blue-Grays. Also including a bonus picture of Bowman for a team that I can't identify. It's probably safe to assume it's from the almost 10-year gap when he wasn't playing pro ball. Probably some semi-pro team.
