Mets send David Robertson to the Fish for two apparently nothing prospects (it's hard to find good information when you want to steer clear of all sites that might have the result of the game you're now trying to watch from the archives although it all hurts and you really just want to lie down and have a cry)
Sigh.

Pete clocking a pair was worth the pain otherwise, though.

As long as they don't trade Pete for some water carrier boy, I'll remain calm.

A bit strange to trade Robertson within the division to a potential playoff rival. Either the Mets have given up on the season, or they believe that Robertson (2nd most playoff appearances of any active pitcher) is so shot, there's no way he can bite them in the butt down the stretch.
Or, y'know…both. |

Well, now he's got even more reason to be mad. So much for the conversation he was going to have with the front office. They had the last word before the conversation even happened.

Props to Uncle Stevie for knowing when to pull the plug. (Surely, the Asstros want Verlander back, right? Everything's bigger in Texas…including the suckers, I hope.)
Another Acuna is nice, but I'm fairly certain we could use some pitchers at some point. Just a thought. |

Takeways from Metsies Demolition Night.
Mad Max is gone, but don't fear for your scheduled fireworks. There are enough guys left that put the ball on a stick. Straight-up Mets move to get a player whose primary position is clogged by a $341M folly for the best part of another decade. The Acuna kid has never played third base, which doesn't give me much hope that he'll start with that now. Which brings me to the underwhelming Youth of America that is already here. Alvarez is rough around the edges, hacks a lot, but if he meets one, that meatball's on somebody else's plate the next borough over. He can stay. Maybe turn Narvaez into more bobbleheads instead. Baty and Vientos remain utterly atrocious, and they can go back to Syracuse for all I care. Can't hit (either), can't field (either), are at best longshots to make the Mets roster's 2024 shirtless calendar for the lady fans (either). Vogie's Mr. August, I hear. Can Ronny Mauricio play third base? Has anybody heard of Ronny Mauricio lately? No takers on Lindor? I'm sure Uncle Steve will retain $129M of the salary if you offer another unheard-of rookie ball second-sacker. I'd dump on Cookie Crumbles, but he's already been dumped on for 13 runs in his last 4.2 innings by teams with dubious pedigrees. Careful. Don't squish the chocolatey bits and the raspberries into the carpet, that **** is hard to clean. The entire pitching staff can go for all I care. Bunch of tossers. Bundle Carrasco and Ottavino for a bag of used baseballs and you have already improved the team. Everybody can go. In the wood chipper. Scant exceptions are: Pete (obviously), Squirrel (though he sucks it up this year), Nimmo (always a delight), and Alvarez. Can we get Andres Gimenez back from Ohio? Pretty please? No, we need a third baseman. Someone should call the agent of Todd Frazier from Toms River. What the **** is D.J. Stewart doing on the roster, after all? He got pictures of Buck from their Baltimore days? Mets fans deserve better. Mets fans deserve Johneshwy Fargas. (buries face in his paws)

Actually, I understand that Brooks Raley, Scourge of the Homosexuals, is doing rather well for us. But he's 35 years old, and his hero (Jesus) checked out at 33, so I don't see him as a long-term solution.
Allegedly, ditching Scherzer is all about clearing salary space to go after Shohei. Sigh. Why don't you try building a team, you short-cut bastard? (I would also keep Guillorme, on general principles. And I don't just mean the beard. Although that doesn't hurt.) |

Guillorme for actual defense and mop-up relief is a great idea.

"Remember when the gumballs were a penny?" - Gary Cohen
I even remember when middle-of-the-road shortstops didn't cost $30M a year!

Carlos Correa, 2023: .228/.304/.399, leads AL in GiDP (20), 94 whiffs in 94 games.
So that's one bullet we dodged, anyhow. |

Mark Canha to the Brewers. This time for a pitcher, actually!
Pete was NL Player of the Week. Pete is still a Met. Pete is still a Met. ![]() ![]()

Good news! Trading Canha opens a spot for the Mets to bring up young(ish-he's 24) OF Matt Rudick, who's hitting decently at Binghamton.
Less-good news…Rudick is on the 7-day DL. Seriously, Eppler, prospects are a good thing. Also, the Mets have used 29 pitchers this season, and it's only now reached August. FFS. |

MLB.com is kind enough to greet me with the headline "Are Mets ready to trade Pete Alonso???"
Fine, I'll cry in the corner. ![]() ![]()

Literally clapped about 10 times reading that news. (The only reason it wasn't a standing ovation was because I'm too old to leap to my feet.)
What did we get? I'll take a used Wilbur Howard trading card. Skip Jutze, even. (I understand if a Scipio Spinks would be pushing it.) ETA: according to MLB, Eppler is looking into dumping Wham-Bam-Pham, Jose "One Good Season" Quintana, Adam "Pride of Northeastern" Ottavino and Brooks "What do you mean 'Pride', Adam?" Raley in the next 3 hours as well. Last edited by Amazin69; 08-01-2023 at 03:48 PM. |
