Thanks for Mutz! (Sorry I missed your previous note.)

IRL, Len Strelitz was in the middle up his third season of reasonably-steady work in the starting rotation at AA Arkansas. (He would go 9-9, 3.85.) He would progress to AAA Springfield the next year, only to see his career end after two starts in 1981.

Was it an injury? Or did Strelitz's low strikeout rate help the Cardinals to cut him loose at age 25? Don't know. But the St. Louis AI has decided that Len is no worse than some other bullpen options, so he's getting his shot.

Alas, I can not find a single pic of him, so I ask if your yearbook skills can pillage the Temple City (CA) High School archives and dig him up. (Temple City is a neighborhood in LA, right near where the freeways meet.) There's another Strelitz who graduated Temple City High about 30 years later who had 5 seasons as a pro, but he never reached AAA.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! (Wonder how I missed that Travs card?)

Meanwhile, although the Ms are hanging around, a couple of games under .500 (hey, it's better than 67-95 they put up in OTL), the so-called pitching is wearing thin. We've even had to rely on fictional characters!

Okay, so Eric Mustad (whom I picked up in the same San Diego trade where I got Andy Dyes) is not actually Colonel Mustard from the game Clue…but wouldn't it be cool if he were?

Hope you get on this quick, since he may be on the bus back to Spokane any day now. His ERA is getting murdered…on the mound, with a baseball bat, by everyone.

(I leave the decision on the anachronous [for 1979] Mustadche up to you.)

Eric Mustad

Amazin',

I kept him clean-shaven. Here's my go at him. Also, there's no way my brain doesn't read the name as anything except "Mustard".

The sixties are completed and again it's a major update with 1127 FGs redone!!!

As usual if a player isn't included it's because Lans already did a good FG for that player in the pack.

You know the drill... two links in my signature: the complete pack or just the new ones for those who already have the last universal pack and just need the updated FGs.

PS: it's probably my last big update for a while since I will start playing OOTP25 soon.

Thanks for Mustad! He hasn't exactly been a must-add, but he's hanging in there. (Okay, mostly because Tom House tweaked something in his side and is out for two weeks, and Spokane isn't exactly bulging with promotion candidates, but still.)

The Cubs are doing a surprisingly-decent job of hanging around .500, but they also need bullpen help. They've turned to Mike Thompson…not either of the big league Mikes Thompson, but their recent draft pick, Michael Edward Thompson.

Mike had a good half-season when promoted to AA Midland in 1981 (6-1, 3.60) but struggled the next season and was dumped. To be fair, that blazing 2.5 K/9 ratio in 1981 didn't buy him a lot of loyalty.

Still, anybody from the baseball powerhouse of Fairleigh Dickinson gets my support.

Lans when you will have some free time could you tried your magic on Ray Peters. My FG isn't that bad but the glasses aren't very good imho. There is a very good picture of him posted here in the forum. I could always add my FG to the 1970 file but I have a feeling you can do better than this.

Dorian Gonzalez Jr.

From a young age, Gonzalez heard his father talk in hushed tones about the magic of Mark Light Field. Dorian Gonzalez Sr., who was a left-handed pitcher, played at Miami from 1994-96, reaching the College World Series in all three seasons.

When Gonzalez Jr. was old enough, he was a regular at The Light. He came to nearly every game on the weekends and participated in the Jim Morris Baseball Camps. “Getting an opportunity to be on the field with the players was awesome,” he said. “I really looked up to those guys and wanted to be them.” Gonzalez worked on his craft, emulating the Hurricanes he met, becoming one of the top middle infielders in Florida. And when he finally walked into Mark Light Field once classes started, he couldn’t help but think about his road to becoming a Hurricane. “As a Miami kid, playing for the Hurricanes in baseball is like playing for the New York Yankees. It’s a big deal,” DiMare said. “Dorian has been very good. He’s a good athlete, a tough kid and has impressed me with how he plays the game. He has a chance to be a very good college player.” Growing up 10 minutes from campus, Gonzalez expects his parents to be fixtures in the stands, watching his lifelong dream come true. - miamihurricanes.com (2022)

D.M. Jefferson

Little Leaguer hopes to be president on way to Little League World Series
Outfielder

D.M. Jefferson fancies the game as a steppingstone to even bigger things for him.

WASHINGTON (WUSA) -- You have to believe some players on the Capitol City Little League 12 and under team want to play in the big leagues someday. For now, they're happy with their DC District title. Next stop Bristol, CT, for Mid-Atlantic Regionals where no DC team has won in bracket play before. Their goal is to make it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport.

But outfielder D.M. Jefferson fancies the game as a steppingstone to even bigger things for him. He says he's 100% sure he'll be president one day. He thinks being at the LLWS with teams for other countries will help him hone his diplomatic skills since, you know, he'll be president one day. - wusa9.com (August 4, 2016)

Ray Peters

Harvard Ace Ray Peters Signed by New AL Club - By Al Brenholts - February 12, 1969

Ray Peters, Harvard baseball's skillful right-hander, is no longer an amateur. For three years Peters spurned professional offers from such teams as the Tigers, Mets, and Athletics because Harvard and his education were more important. But Ray Peters is a senior now, and when he was drafted February 1 by the American League, expansion club, the Seattle Pilots, he signed.

Harvard's former baseball coach, Norm Shepard, labeled Peters' professional status "a tremendous blow to Harvard baseball." When pressed further, Shepard elaborated: "A pitcher like Ray comes along just once in a while. He was one that could throw the ball by the hitter. You don't get a real stopper like Ray every day."

There can be few doubts about his being what Shepard said. Last year he pushed Harvard to the top of the Eastern Intercollegiate Baseball League with an 8-1 record, accounting for 7 of those wins himself. He guided Harvard through the NCAA Eastern Regionals, beating B.U. in the first round, then squelching Connecticut the next day in ninth-inning relief. With that kind of pitching Harvard traveled to the NCAA finals in Omaha as a respected challenger. Though Harvard failed to win the NCAA's, the team compiled an outstanding 19-9 record. Every player had a fine season, especially Peters. He garnered EIBL and NCAA district All-Star honors, as well as an election to the national All-American

He owns all the right "junk" too, throwing a strong fastball, a sweeping curve, a quick-breaking slider, and a confusing change-up. He has endurance, as evidenced by his 16-strikeout performance against Yale in '67. Those major league scouts watching that game must have been considerably impressed, for Peters was the only right-handed pitcher selected by the major league scouting directors to the Sporting News All-American Team last summer.

The pros think that Ray can make it; so does Norm Shepard, who said, "If Ray doesn't have a fine chance, I don't know who does." With a new club Peters certainly has every chance to make it his first year.

I don't know if it's any better, but I gave him a shot, AESP. He's better than the one that was mislabeled in the CUF pack though. Looks like the old one was made from a sunglasses picture then was smoothed to compensate.

He's better... the glasses are complete and not distorted because of the slider. Thanks!

You get X amount of free ones, but I just paid a flat amount for unlimited. It's this site for the mouth closing: https://www.ailabtools.com/image-editor/

Once there (I size the pic from 800 to 1000 pixels first), navigate to and select the photo from your computer. Then go to "AI Portrait" then "Face Attributes" and then "Change Facial Expressions" then select "Being Cool". It gives you a preview and only burns a "use" if you download the result. That's how I now close mouths. Didn't always, but have used the site more and more often as it's getting better and better at it.

For the coloring, I just used Photoshop's function for that one.

The website you suggested for the smile really do a good job for the way too happy guy... I gave it a try since I can't use an eraser with that type of smile and wanted to see the difference between this and a paint cut and paste job.

Yeah, there are three options that are worth looking at. Closed Mouth Smile, Forced Smile and my favorite "Being Cool" in the lower left. As I said, you can preview all of them as it only expends a "use" when you download one.

Thanks for Mike!

(Even if he does look all bummed with that frown. I know it's only the Cubs, Mike…but still.)

The White Sox probably have no chance to win the AL West. They're in the pack that's hovering around .500, like my Mariners, but since the Angels blasted to a 28-2 start and were 40-10 through 50 games, it's a job of work.

Perhaps that's why they haven't called up South Portland ME's Fred Howard, who IRL made his MLB debut on May 26th, but is still down at Iowa and it's June, now. (in fact, Fred is getting blasted, and the Pale Hose have Francisco Barrios, Richard Dotson, and Lamarr Hoyt as better options to summon.)

Does this mean that Fred will be beaten to the majors by his kid brother (1 year younger), Mike? IRL Mike (not to be confused with future Met trivia question Mike Howard) was busy going 12-3 for Winston-Salem, but in the game he's doing creditable relief work for the PawSox, and given that the big club is languishing in 6th place (sorry, Lans), Mike could get the call soon.

IRL, Mike made the 40-man for 1980 Spring Training, and split that year between AA West Haven and the PawSawx. However, he got arm twinges in 1981, and was finished after 1982.
