Dick Montague... at least that's what it apparently said on the back of the photograph when I archived it. The only Dick Montague who fits the time period is this guy:
https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=montag001ric But I have no proof that it's the guy in the link. There's no evidence that I can find of a Montague who would've been Cubs property in the era that this photo was taken.

Dick Montague
Quote:
P.S. Just checked the 1931 Cubs spring roster listed in the Feb. 5, 1931 issue of the Sporting News, and it indicates that Montague's 1930 baseball team was the University of Michigan. Last edited by Cusick; 05-05-2018 at 08:32 AM. Reason: Add P.S. |

Richard C. "Dick" Wilson
Here's a closer view of Dick Wilson with the Mexicali Aguilas.
Dick Wilson was a non-roster invitee with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1952. At that point, he was listed as a catcher. However, baseball-reference correctly notes that he spent more of his minor league career at first base, third base, and in the outfield. |

Not sure if the quality is good enough but figured I would share it as I found a youtube video of an interview with Lou Quinn while I was looking for an image of him for my current historical replay.
Quinn was an infielder in the Pirates system for nearly a decade starting in 1965. There are 3 interview clips of him on youtube from the 1968 season when he played for the Salem Rebels.

Joseph Michael "Joe" Morgan
This is a photo of Joseph Michael "Joe" Morgan, who would later become the manager of the Boston Red Sox. I had originally posted it as Luther Quinn, but the correct identification was made by Merkle923. The photo came from eBay vender historicimages, who was selling it in 2013, and had identified it as Luther Quinn. Joe Morgan was a manager in the Pirates' system from 1966 through 1971 and in 1973.

David Mann
Outfielder David Mann was on the Cleveland Indians' spring roster in 1958. He is shown here in a Seattle Rainiers uniform. He died recently on May 14 at age 85.
Mann was a base-stealing specialist. He swiped 88 bases one season at York, 65 at Reading, and 50 at AAA Minneapolis. Over his 12 seasons in the minors, he had a career batting average of .282. https://www.baseball-reference.com/r...d=mann--001dav P.S. Though the quality is not good, just found a newspaper photo (Cleveland Plain Dealer, Mar. 7, 1958) which shows Mann with the Cleveland Indians, sliding back into first base on a pickoff attempt. It is added as a third photo. Last edited by Cusick; 05-28-2018 at 09:17 AM. Reason: Add P.S. |

Dizzy Dean Higginbottom
He didn't have quite the pitching career of his namesake, but he was a non-roster invitee with the Cincinnati Reds in the spring of 1958. Died recently on May 7, 2018. The photo is from the Cincinnati Enquirer of February 21, 1958.
