Not only do the Metsies continue their drive for 90 losses, but the last L was the 162nd suffered by a NY team this season. So even if the Yankees do keep themselves above water as they struggle to stay above the Red Sux, we are making sure it's a losing season in the Apple overall, after all.
And boo to the Yankees! (For reasons other than general principles, I mean.) Don't be wishy-washy, Pinstripers! Commit to the flop! Nobody likes mediocrity. We know how to tank, newbies! |

Instead of putting Adam Snottavino into a game, the Mets should just forfeit. Saves everybody tears.

With loss #86, the Mets have now officially clinched their worst season since the 70-92 of 2017. And it only cost $350,000,000 or so to get there!
Come home, Nori Aoki! All is forgiven! |

Muuuuuurph!
![]() ![]() I agree on one thing with him. That time in Game 5 of the NLDS when Lucas Duda walked and Murph stole third base on the sleeping Dodgers (and foremost rookie Corey Seager) was also my favorite play of his - although the heel play with Carlos Torres is a close second. That aside, no more Nimmo, placed on DL with a shoulder ailment. Totally not serious, no worries, all is well. Will totally miss all of next year then. ![]() ![]()

Reid Garrett, who threw three scoreless innings in relief, is absolutely impossible to watch. He has the magnificent ability to throw a ball six inches away from the strike zone in every direction, and shows it off constantly.

Well, that explains his sparkling ERA (7.07 coming into the game), then.
Leading Mets batters, not counting yesterday: Mr. Pointy, .274 Squirrel, .270 (at least it's a step in the right direction) Frankie "Uncontrollable Giggling" Lindor, .255 Ronny Mauricio, .247 The Immortal D.J. Stewart, .242 Murderers Row, it ain't. Kingman's hitting 46 bombs won't save that ****e. Mets rotation: Kodai Senga, 12-9, 2.98 Jose Quintana, 3-6, 3.57 Joey Lucchesi, 4-0, 2.89 Jose Butto, 1-2, 3.75 Tylor Magill, 9-8, 4.70 (4.97 FIP), if you're drunk enough David Peterson, 3-8, 5.03, albeit you shouldn't drink so much Carlos Carrasco, 3-8, 6.80 (there's not enough booze in the world) Honestly, 74-86-1 seems surprising. |

Buck Showalter will not return as Mets manager in 2024, says MLB.com without much detail.

I'm sure Stearns called the movers for him and his family last night.

To be fair, it's not hard to surpass recent Mets management.
FO— Brodie von Hunchback. Trade all prospects, refuse to sign Zack Wheeler. Jared Porter. SexuaI Harassment in Chicago. (Jared, I'm fairly sure 60 noes mean N-O.) Zak Scott. Incompetent. And a DWI to boot! Eppler. Put all the $$ into really old arms. Leave Pete unsigned. (He should have been on a 10-year deal the moment Eppler took over.) Manager— Callaway. Epic swoons, and also a pervert. Voltron. BZZZZT! Rojas. Nothing but useless platitudes. Couldn't win a division that was handed to him on a silver platter. Had FIVE regulars way below established levels. Buck. A historic collapse (6th-worst of all-time), followed by dead-in-the-water, all year long. One would think that better is possible. And we went through that catalogue in just six years.
![]() What's Terry Collins, Leader of Men, up to these days? Fun Fact: Terry Collins has more playoff wins as Mets manager than all other Mets managers this side of Willie Randolph combined. Terry's got eight. It's six on Willie Randolph and one on Buck Seeyalater.

Reading the back pages, I am reminded that after the Choke of '22, I noted that both the 1996 Yankees and 2001 Diamondbacks won the World Series the year after firing Buck.
So…opportunity awaits? I'll grant you that the current team doesn't look as though it could win the Little League World Series, but…things change. And Uncle Stevie does have (piles and piles of) change. |

15 days, no posts? Yoicks.
Apparently the Brewers might let Counsell out of his deal early. Perhaps CC is getting antsy, thinking that Uncle Stevie might get itchy and hire Mark Budzinski, even if Stearns is yelling "wait"? And I see I missed how Schmuck Bowalter claimed that leaving was his decision, because the FO had "no idea how to assemble a winning team" ? Not to defend Eppler (because…come on now), but given that Mr. Four-Time Overrated Mediocrity has a career playoff record of 10-16, losing 5 of 6 post-season series (and also a WCG), I think there is ample evidence that even with "good" players, Schmuck can still schmuck things up. Shut the Buck up, Schmuck. |
