2300 - CBO Sole Survivor Series: Fort Hagen vs Diamond City

NCA #2 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (66-42) vs SCA #3 Diamond City Swatters (61-47)

Game 3 - Fort Hagen 6 at Diamond City 5

Game 4 - Fort Hagen 3 at Diamond City 6

Game 5 - Fort Hagen 6 at Diamond City 5

Analysis

Diamond City could only manage one win at home, but it was another big blow against Fort Hagen ace Derek Green, now 0-2 in the Sole Survivor Series. The Swatters' win in Game 4 also serves as the only home victory in the series as the teams will return to Fort Hagen. The Silver Shroud need to find a way to win both games at home to take this series. Otherwise, the Swatters will repeat as CBO champions.

Right back at you. I got (among other things) a new monitor for Christmas, so you know what that means... I can finally have the full box score on screen while playing OOTP... That's what I'm doing right now as I eat dinner... though later it will get a proper workout playing Skyrim.

Shame the Shroud couldn't win, but I'm right in my prediction, and Oren Gep is the 2300 Sole Survivor MVP, so still not bad!

October 2300 - BNN Report - October 5

It's a Festivus Miracle! I converted the league to OOTP 22 following the SSS, and suddenly the Facebook feature works again. I can now copy and paste stories again.

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

5 October 2300

News from Around the League

Diamond City Swatters Win Sole Survivor Series

With a 9-2 win over the Fort Hagen Silver Shroud at Hubris Comics Park today, the Diamond City Swatters wrapped up their 2nd title in team history.

The Swatters left little doubt who was the better team. Celebrating a banner year, "team" was the word of the day in the victorious clubhouse after the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Diamond City manager Bucky Bachelor. "Our players felt that way all year, and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as Diamond City celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" would be in order.

"I hope they have a big celebration," Fort Hagen manager Mark Andersen said. "They deserved to win this series and they deserve to celebrate it."

Busy Days in the CBO and Beyond

The CBO was active today one day after the completion of the Sole Survivor Series in an agreement with the new Vim! League. Also, as we will announce in the next story, there was more action for the CBO as we move further into the 24th Century.

The need for immediate roster moves came for two reasons. One of those reasons was to enter names into the Vim! League's Inaugural Draft held tomorrow at the Eden Meadows Cinema for a huge Mount Desert Island draft party.

The following CBO players were made available for the draft:
Concord Radstags: Released C Dario Dominguez.
Salem Witch Hats: Released 1B Conrad Fallon.
Salem Witch Hats: Released RF Dave Frickitt.
Egret Ninjas: Released SS Fulton House.
Egret Ninjas: Released C Brenden Catcher.
Warwick Mirelurks: Released LF Jo-Jo Hart-Burnman.
Lexington Synths: Released 3B Lee Duper.
University Point Deathclaws: Released 2B John Summers.
University Point Deathclaws: Released 2B Luke Peerless.
University Point Deathclaws: Released 1B Tom Kingboy.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Joe Ritze.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Bossy O'Malley.
The Slog Ghouls: Released RP Jim Leavitt.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Steve Watertank.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Pip Pipkins.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RF Chris Shamblin.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Ken Crocket.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Danny Schopp.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Orlie Zatt.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released 1B John Huerta.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Run Backes.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Daron Hendrix.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Justin Novak.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Greg Ziemba.
Roxbury Rad Sox: Released RP Heck Pellets.
Goodneighbor Hancocks: Released C Dan Bonkers.
Goodneighbor Hancocks: Released C Nate Traintracks.
Goodneighbor Hancocks: Released C Jonathan Coats.
Oberland T-51s: Released 2B Andy Longface.
Oberland T-51s: Released RF Z-Boy Oliveras.
Oberland T-51s: Released C Lenny Mange.
Oberland T-51s: Released 3B Doe Williams.
Fort Hagen Silver Shroud: Released 1B Kevin America.
FHE Yao Guai: Released C Ollie Caballero.
FHE Yao Guai: Released LF Travis Blount.
FHE Yao Guai: Released LF John Conant.
FHE Yao Guai: Released LF Micah Griswold.
FHE Yao Guai: Released LF Jimmy Gervais.
The Slog Ghouls: Released 1B Bobby Greenwell.

No other teams made roster moves, citing a reserve clause on all of their minor league players. According to reports, the Vim! League was hoping to have an excess of 150 players available to them from the CBO. Instead, they have these 39 players. All players can seek employment outside the Vim! League if they choose.

It is also our understanding that the Vim! League and the Nuka World League are expected to create an association of shared rules and drafts and will meet in a yearly series in 2301 called the Season Pass Series. We're not sure about the significance of the name, but the expansion leagues both seem to see a meaning to the name. The series will feature the champions of the Vim! League's Vim! Series and the Nuka World League's Nuka Series. Teams are also expected to plan some preseason exhibitions.

Rad Sox Make Moves, Glass Vows to See a Championship Soon

The Roxbury Rad Sox have decided to part ways with GM Honeycomb Halcomb and MGR Turbo Peabody in what owner Arlen Glass called "Necessary and unmerciful need for winners."

Glass vowed that the Rad Sox would be a winning franchise before he died, and he didn't expect to see many years.

Glass pulled in an unknown GM already, Jonathan Hardone, who had coached in Providence for a semi-pro league there. Glass and Hardone also stated that they would name their new manager within the week.

Pitching coach Elvis Gearhead also announced his retirement. That means the Rad Sox will be seeking four coaches now that the CBO will allow new specialists to coach along the 1B and 3B lines, as well as, help players develop.

Along with firing coaches, Glass also announced the immediate release of 14 players he called "useless."

CBO's Newest Minor League Announced

It has been a secret enterprise for months, and CBO commissioner Nate Howard had to shut down leaks and dispel rumors, but it is an official announcement today.

The CBO has expanded to a new development league for drafted players, the Greater Boston Rookie League. The league will begin with allowing players aged 17 to 21 years old and may restrict those numbers in the future. Howard stated that the league was necessary with the growing numbers of players in the Boston Youth Development League.

"Yeah, surprise!" Howard said. "We have 32 more teams in the CBO now. These will be young players competing to move up to the BMU and then the CBO. We expect a lot of fun."

Unlike the BMU where teams maintain their regional affiliation, Howard assigned teams from different four league segments throughout the entirety of the GBRL. For example, in the Northeast Division, teams represented are County Crossing, Fort Hagen, Jamaica Plain, Oberland, University Point, and Warwick.

Complete affiliations and uniforms below.

Looked to be a blowout win at first, but nice comeback by the Shroud. Green was just ouch in the series (0-3)!

Hey, upgrading almost in time for OOTP 23 But hmmm, on some level, that fixing the issue does make a certain level of sense. I can't explain why, but it does.

Despite not really commenting on the lower levels, I'm appreciating that they're there, just want to say that, and it's nice we're getting all this additional action, a real expanded universe. I want to commend the effort that surely must go into this. Except naming teams after bugs, especially bloatflies. That can stop anytime you're ready. Hate those things Bloatflies are tied with bloodbugs for my least favorite thing about Fallout. I mean, intellectually, they make sense, and I appreciate the lore, but they're literally some of the most disgusting things I can think of. But hey, it's nice to have teams to root against

(Still haven't gotten around to Nuka World, despite really wanting to, so I don't know about those other bugs. I suspect I would have if not for the fact that Skyrim AE really sucked me in for some reason (judging by all my friends' recent playtimes on Steam, I'm far from the only one). Still, I did buy my best friend the Fallout 4 complete pack on Fallout Day this year so I may get back to it soonish).

I purchased OOTP 22 much later in the process than I usually do, and I didn't want to convert the league until it was the offseason. I probably will buy OOTP 23 late in the process, too, so at least one and hopefully two full seasons of the CBO will be on 22.

For the additions, I am trying to play the long game for the dynasty. I have big plans for the league, at least through the initial outline I sketched. Granted, I am missing some of the context as of late thanks to the absolute lack of time I have for leisure activities. When I enter crunch times, I have no chance but to disappear from this forum for a while. Couple that with nearly a month of no power in late August and early September and then playing catch up with work and school, the last few months were rough. I should have more time to devote, especially on weekends, to my dynasty in the first half of 2022. Therefore, I hope to advance a bit more and dive in a little deeper when possible--also, rediscover some of the abandoned storylines. Otherwise, these minor leagues will serve as background movers to deepening the wasteland's recovery and making the Commonwealth a damn strong civilization rebuild.

2300 - Vim! League Inaugural Draft

Something already went awry! I had a list of 500+ players that I edited to contain some of the colorful names I like to add. Then, when I went into the draft, there were those players, plus another group of players I saw nowhere else. Instead of editing those names, too, I edited just a few. Maybe I need to make it a feature in the Far Harbor, Maine, region to have more "normal" names. We'll see . . .

Sorry I haven't been posting, but I still kept following! Thanks for another excellent season, StLee. The Boys just didn't seem to be firing on all cylinders, but we ended up with a more interesting SSS than maybe we would have expected - and a good win for the Swatters.

Glad to see you're still around. As you can see, my posts are infrequent. I have a little time for now, but soon I will get super busy until mid-May. That's the way it goes. I will continue to plug away as long as I can on this dynasty, though, unless I cannot.

For the Boys, I looked as closely as I could at them and thought they had the best path to winning it all. I did not foresee the Swatters repeating since they took a few talent hits from last season, but Nordhagen Beach looked stronger overall. I don't know how open their window will remain, but I can definitely see them at it again in 2301.

I also seem to remember a very positive mention for young Lannie, so that's something else to look forward to in 2301!

See below: Three mentions!

BNN Weekly Report

CBO Awards Named for 2300

NCA Names Corvega Top Defender Award Choices for 2300: "Hit 'em where they ain't" is a great hitting philosophy, but it doesn't always work when a fielder can seemingly appear out of nowhere to make the play. These magicians are often taken for granted as the season grinds along, but today they take center stage. The North Charles Association Corvega Top Defender Award selections for 2300 are:

Pitcher
Matt Hope (Fort Hagen Silver Shroud)

Catcher
Mike Swift (Nordhagen Beach Party Boys)

First Baseman
Lannie Tykeson (Easy Town Assaultrons)

Second Baseman
Danny Suarez (Finch Farm Four Leafs)

Third Baseman
Cy Thompson (Sunshine Tidings Chemists)

Shortstop
Well Done Dungan (Fort Hagen Silver Shroud)

Left Fielder
Bloatfly Williams (Abernathy Adamantium)

Center Fielder
Ben Pawlak (Fort Hagen Silver Shroud)

Right Fielder
Gene Leftswipe (Concord Radstags)

SCA Honors Top Glovemen for 2300: What does it take to win a Corvega Top Defender Award? It's a combination of good hands, knowing how to play the hitters, all-out hustle and a willingness to sacrifice your body to make a play. Good speed and a good arm never hurt either, but not always required. This year's all-defense team in the South Charles Association consists of:

Pitcher
Manny McDuff (Quincy Gunners)

Catcher
Biddy Swenson (Roxbury Rad Sox)

First Baseman
Barker Cocoa (University Point Deathclaws)

Second Baseman
Jumper Hayes (Goodneighbor Hancocks)

Third Baseman
Dog Prairie (Egret Ninjas)

Shortstop
Knud Bather (Vault 81 Dwellers)

Left Fielder
Kory Richardson (University Point Deathclaws)

Center Fielder
Earthbound Bussey (Atom Cats)

Right Fielder
Good Don Duck (Goodneighbor Hancocks)

Fallon's Reliever Award Goes to Geneva: At the young age of only 22, Aaron Geneva has been named the North Charles Association Fallon's Reliever Award winner for 2300.

The future appears bright for the Easy Town Assaultrons relief ace, who captured the award with 33 saves in 49 relief appearances, 75 strikeouts in 59.1 innings and a record of 5-2 to go with his 1.82 ERA.

He received 1 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Aaron Still of the Concord Radstags finished second in voting, while Handsome Frank of the Sunshine Tidings Chemists finished third.

Player - Team - First Place - Total Points
Aaron Geneva - Easy Town Assaultrons - 1 - 5
Aaron Still - Concord Radstags - 0 - 3
Handsome Frank - Sunshine Tidings Chemists - 0 - 1

Best SCA Reliever Named: The Goodneighbor Hancocks got more than they expected out of Tiny Greene in 2300.

At the age of 36, there were questions about whether or not Greene could still compete at a high level, but those questions were answered emphatically as he has won the South Charles Association Fallon's Reliever Award.

2300 - CBO Draft and Analysis

BNN Weekly Report

This Week in the CBO, BMU, GBRL, and BYDL

by Nat Wright-Kawolski

5 November 2300

Draft Analysis

Top 5 Overall

1-1 Finch Farm – RF Orcin Cardinal out of South Beach (BYDL)
Analysis: Great combination of eye, contact, and power could make him an elite hitter at the level of a player like Goodneighbor’s Bryan Assman. Waits for his pitch and then murders it. Solid defensive outfielder who could play either of the corners, though his arm grades him as a RF.
Personality: Relies on talent alone. Does not always put in the hard work which could make his jump from youth league star to CBO star a long process. May not have the heart to succeed at the top level.

1-2 Sunshine Tidings – LF Baktu DaWell out of Wattz (BYDL)
Analysis: Projected to be a quality hitter at the CBO level with a chance to be a solid .275/25/75 type hitter. Strong arm may move him to RF in the bigs, but can play either corner well.
Personality: Talented and understands the concepts of the game, but lacks an edge as a real winner. May not have the wherewithal to will himself out of long slumps.

1-3 Roxbury Rad Sox – CF Ah Oona out of Provincetown (CCYL)
Analysis: Known to be a great defensive player for the Provincetown Land Pirates of the Cape Cod League, thus the Rad Sox taking him so high. Good speed and quickness on the ball off the bat that will take away hits and move him into scoring position on the basepaths. Has trouble making contact on off-speed pitches but highly successful on fastballs. Needs to improve on strikeouts at the next level to be a star. Has the frame to be a power hitter, too.
Personality: Baseball is his passion. Everything else is secondary. Hard worker who wants a glove or bat in his hand at all times.

1-4 Atom Cats – SP Brahmin Lover Beardman out of Nauset Beach (CCYL)
Analysis: The Nauset Beach Lurk Hunters’ star, Beardman is a good, experimental pitcher that appears to have all the tools to be an ace in the CBO. Though he had some late-season struggles in his final Cape Cod League season, he did expand his regiment to five pitches with potential great fastballs and cutters at the next level, to go with quite solid sinkers and sliders. He added the changeup in 2300, but needs it to develop more before using it in the GBRL or BMU. Good control that will lead to a lot of frustrated hitters. May be the surest player to make it to the CBO in the 2300 draft.
Personality: Has the work ethic and understanding of the game that made him a desirable choice for Atom. Did not seem particularly drawn to the CBO but is a baller on the field for whatever uniform he wears. Was supposed to be a member of the Andrew Station Southies of the BYDL but decided to follow his parents to Cape Cod instead.

1-5 Lexington Synths – 3B Ross Merchantman out of Diamond City (BYDL)
Analysis: A bit of a surprise pick since he was projected to be taken much lower. Not a sure bet to make it to the CBO but could develop into a high-powered third baseman with high OPS. Has a strong arm that allows him to throw out any runner but makes a few boneheaded glove errors here and there when fielding routine grounders.
Personality: Likes being on the big stage and appears excited about the prospects of being a CBO player.

Nordhagen Beach's Top 5

Overall: Heavily scouted the other youth leagues in the area, the Providence Junior Pro League, the Cape Cod Youth League, and Great Diamond Island League. Solid draft overall that could yield it several players on the Party Boys squad one day.

1-23 2B Zach Thorne out of Fraternal Post 115 (BYDL)
Analysis: Strong frame. Projects to be a power-hitting 2B. Good defensive range. Great ability to recognize strike zone. Expected to play in the CBO one day.
Personality: Hard worker but not willing to be a leader on the team. Gets greedy and may lose patience if he is not playing a lot early.

2-23 3B Preston LeClerc out of Truro (CCYL)
Analysis: Does not have star power but could be a solid all-around player. Expected to develop into a CBO player with the chance to have massive bat power. Needs to work better on making contact, especially with off-speed pitches. Offers above-average defense as a corner infielder.
Personality: Good character. Will be well-liked by coaches and teammates.

3-23 C Going Ling out of Nauset Beach (CCYL)
Analysis: Probably projects best as a Catcher 2 on a team. Won’t be a great hitter at the CBO level but he could drive in runs and move people on the bases from time to time. Expected to be a good defensive catcher.
Personality: Goes all out on every play, including diving into the stands and dugouts on popups. Wants to be a leader. Understands team dynamics but expects to play a role when everyone else cooperates. Needs to be in the right franchise to adjust.

4-23 SP Joe Broomstick out of Echo Point (GDIL)
Analysis: Another of the mostly unknown players though OSA has scouted all draft-eligible players. Not expected to be a CBO-quality starter. May make a name for himself because he has a decent curveball, but he is a two-pitch pitcher. Needs to learn to better control his pitches and find a way to get more movement in his pitches. Does not possess a strong enough arm.
Personality: Not highly decisive. Lacks ability to commit to a single choice. Somewhat wishy-washy.

5-23 SP Tiny Caprich out of Freeplat (PJPL)
Analysis: Has a chance to make it to CBO but would have to see some high talent shifts. Has three pitches, with his slider considered to be a winning pitch. Has a good fastball but his changeup needs work. Could use a fourth pitch but needs three good ones first. Probably going to be a reliever at the major league level.
Personality: Baseball-centric. Does not show interest outside of baseball. Works hard for every pitch. Takes workouts seriously.

Fort Hagen's Top 5

Overall: Heavily scouted the other youth leagues in the area, the Providence Junior Pro League, the Cape Cod Youth League, and Great Diamond Island League. Decent with their first three picks but may have a ceiling of two players at most making it to the CBO level.

1-20 CF Camp Costello out of Brown U (PJPL)
Analysis: Speedy and has great range in the OF. Needs to be better with his glove or he will be a LF at best in the CBO. Not heavy in power but can be respectable. May never be a star but expected to be a CBO contributor.
Personality: Highly competitive and enthusiastic. Expected to be a team leader. Has ability to adapt well to multiple situations.

2-20 LF Farm Klain out of Wellfleet Settlement (CCYL)
Analysis: Offers decent contact ratings and potential. Could develop decent power in time. Solid defensive outfielder who makes the routine play. Needs to work on his eye at the plate to have a chance to be a CBO-level hitter.
Personality: Competitive but tends to gamble too much. Can never quit thinking about caps.

3-20 SP His Freed out of Eastham (CCYL)
Analysis: May not get the recognition because he played in a “lesser” youth league but did not lose a game with the Eastham Rads team, going 21-0 in his career. Relies on his fastball too much, which has great stuff for a youth league but will not be enough at the major league level. Has CBO potential if he can learn to paint the corners on his pitches and develop his curveball and changeup more. Needs to learn a fourth pitch.
Personality: Patient. Works to get better and does. Will put in the work each day. His passion for the game may make him a draft steal.

4-20 2B Boss Ross out of Green Future (BYDL)
Analysis: Good eye and decent power could give him a shot at the CBO some day. Needs to learn not to swing for the fence on every pitch. Because he unloads on every pitch, his situational hitting is suspect. Needs to work on defense but usually does not show the interest in doing so. May play any of 2B-SS-3B at the next level.
Personality: Earned the nickname Boss because of his bossy nature. Bossy but not a leader. Does not put his best effort in. Expects to be served instead of possessing a serving personality.

5-20 SP Matt Marble out of Pleasant Cove (GDIL)
Analysis: Would need to develop into a much better pitcher to find a spot at the CBO level. Arm strength is not great and that is offset with command problems that makes him throw a lot of pitches early in starts. His curveball is his best pitch, but his other three pitches are home run hitters’ delights. Not considered to be a good pick by OSA scouts’ thoughts. Was expected to be drafted late or not at all.
Personality: Has some natural talent but does not seem to have the work ethic to improve on his talents. Seems like a bad fit for the Fort Hagen organization and may be picked as trade fodder for a Vim! League team to get him back to Maine.
