Bruce Ellingsen INDIANS 1974
New from Topps Vault: Bruce Ellingsen pitched in the Big Show only in 1974 with Cleveland. Drafted by the Dodgers in the 63th round in 1967, then by the Angels in the 1971 rule 5 draft, returned to the Dodgers in 1972, and traded in 1974 to the Indians for Pedro Guerrero. 16 games, 42 IP for the Indians.

The Mets player seems to be Terry Ervin (Terry Ervin Minor League Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com), drafted by Brewers 1973, traded to Mets 1976. Found a 1975 card of one Terry Erwin with the Burlington Bees...but no Terry Erwin in BB Ref, so must be Ervin.
The Yankee seems to be Juan Espino, catcher, played 82-83 & 85-6 with the Yankees (Juan Espino Statistics and History | Baseball-Reference.com). Here is 1984 Donruss card. I added their other TV pics for better comparison. Last edited by keonleafs; 10-22-2017 at 12:52 AM. |

Here is a non-doctored version of the photo, pictured ca. 1923-24 with the Nashville Volunteers.

My "wild" guess would be 1976. Rick Stelmaszek, also a catcher, has about the same background on his Topps pic, his lone year with the Yankees minors. I also added a very bad 1977 Fort Lauderdale card of Espino, but still looks about the same age as the TV pic, 20-21 years old.

Espino and Bill Faul 1962
That sure as heck looks like Espino, and the supposition about 1976 is a good one (though you can date troublesome Yankee photos by the "gloss" on the seats - they didn't really fade until '78 or '79 - and whether the Yankees are wearing uniforms or batting practice shirts).
But unlike Stelmaszek, who was on the Yanks' roster for a month in 1976 without ever getting into a game, I have no record of him making a similar "ghost" appearance before his debut season of 1982. It's possible they brought him up for the old Mayor's Trophy Game, or who knows what. In any event, the Topps Vault treasure trove continues. Bill Faul, pitcher, Cubs, at Candlestick Park, 1965 or 1966. |

Ernie Fazio 1962
Got a huge bonus to jump right from Santa Clara University to the Colt 45s in 1962 - finished at .182/.273/.270 with Houston (spring training 1963) and Kansas City (Yankee Stadium, 1966)

Ed Farmer
The veteran White Sox radio voice during three short stints around the majors: Tigers (1973 - taken in spring training '74), Phillies (1974), Orioles (1977 - taken in spring training '78).

Great shots of Eatin' Ed Farmer, always one of my favorites. Does anyone have him as an Oakland A (1983) yet, or is that still among the unicorns?

Bob Davis, a good-catch, no-hit catcher with the Padres and Blue Jays, got into a single game (2 AB's) with the 1981 California Angels. The only other genuine MLB image I'd seen of him as an Angel was a small BW shot from a yearbook, but here are two good spring training shots from the Topps Vault.
