FatJack makes a good point. I know that John has asked anyone who uses images he has edited/enhanced to credit and link to Baseball-Birthdays.net. I appreciate that he also encourages users on his forum to provide reciprocal links for images they find here. Let's please be respectful of his request and whenever sharing an image originally found on John's forum, take a moment to add the citation/link he has specified. If anyone needs help adding a link to their post, feel free to PM me and I'll walk you through the process.

I do not have records of the source of the photos I post. When I know the source I post it. I was merely posting a request made. It is no wonder people leave this forum. Bunch of nit-picking women, Just sayin'.

What is the matter with everyone lately? We apparently have lost Merkle and almost lost UK over petty crap. We have a really competent moderator. Snide and mean public remarks on this site are totally unnecessary or warranted. If you have a beef, bring it to the person directly or to the moderator in private. The rest of us do not need or want to see it unless the moderator deems it necessary and important. Merkle, UK, and RRB77 have had plausible and for me acceptable explanations for their alleged transgressions. Yet, they were forced to go public with this when it could have been handled privately. Come on people, climb down of you high horses and let's be a family of baseball photo nuts again without all the drama...just f'ing sayin'

Of course, the extreme. Not 'everyone'. As usual, just a few.

Cannot compare Merkle's "farewell" and uk's hours-long boycott. Uk lost his temper over ... I think it was some photos he misidentified and didn't appreciate being corrected. Merkle, who has given *so* much to us here, attempted to remove some photos that he didn't want circulated. And *two* of you (not 'everyone') couldn't resist acting out on your envy, and took a couple swings at a big-shot collector.

Merkle said "Unfortunately, I have enough venues in which I can't operate like anybody else". That is sincerely sad.

Thanks, Bob. I couldn't have said it better myself. There is no need for bickering or hard feelings on the forum. It is not designed to air or further grievances but to share photos, which is why I have and will continue to shut down posts which induce or prolong arguments. Let's keep things light and enjoyable. None of us are getting paid to be here, it's a hobby. It should be fun.

As Bob mentioned, I frequently converse behind-the-scenes with forum members. If you have a problem that needs to be addressed, bring it to me first before throwing it out on the forum. In almost every case it can be resolved without further drama.

As it relates to the latest mini-flareup, I'll just remind everyone about one of the forum rules:

Inadequate Attribution - If something you post, in part or in full, is not your own, then attribute it to your source as best you can [italics added]. People don't appreciate being mislead about where something is coming from or not seeing credit given to whom it is due.

I've been guilty of inadequate attribution myself and will take care to be better about noting sources. As the rule states, do the best you can. If you know where something came from, add the information to your post. If not and another forum member helps with a citation, view it as an assist not an affront.

One more thing to mention...

This forum provides a certain amount of anonymity for users. In my case many forum members know who I am and I have no problem being referenced by name here. Other forum members, however, wish to remain anonymous. "Outing" a user who has not freely shared their personal information will not be tolerated and any posts with identifying information will be edited or removed.

Now, let's get past the drama and get back to sharing baseball photos.

Reminders?

Thanks for the very timely reminder tnoto and just a thought: I realize that the forum rules can be found for those who are looking for them. However perhaps posting them routinely every few months like you did today as a courtesy would be a benefit?

For me, I landed here years back through an indirect search and basically cannonballed the deep end of the pool without knowing any better. I know I've probably stepped on a few toes by simply not knowing certain things and/or asking when it was too late. And yes if I had taken the time to go find the forum rules it would have been the proper thing to do. However the insight as offered by tnoto, okcochise, and others along the way have helped make this site even more enjoyable for me. All the while reminding me that I'm not the only one out here for their own unique reasons. I've mentioned this to a few others and by no means am I preaching, but I like many have enough drama outside this forum's virtual walls. I just hate to have it find its way in here. So to tnoto, please feel free to remind/encourage/advise me and perhaps others of some of the previously communicated do's & don'ts as you see fit. As posted as part of a "just because" vehicle it might/will/can go a long way.

This is a great forum with a great bunch of folks to share and request pics in what is a great hobby....Thanks for all you do!

Jim Willoughby - Giants

Hey there, here is a good example of where I might be tap dancing on people's toes.

I am looking for a Topps Vault picture of Jim Willoughby circa '73 or '74 and have somehow missed this one when it come through. I then found it via the usual search engines with some unwanted new imaging for my needs. (and after doing the right click search function on the image itself)

So here's a request to the entire forum and then a question for tnfoto:

All: Might anyone have the original of thisTopps Vault image of Jim W?

tnfoto: I found this via a search engine that lead me to a flicker account of one tibob1. In this case, I don't need their image, but the one they might have originally located and that I missed somehow from Topps Vault. Is it protocol to give credit in using an edited image to find the source one?

Thanks all in advance!

I'd say you went above and beyond in this case. I'm not going to be the citation police, I just ask that everyone be reasonable. If it's easy to cite, please do it. Even something as simple as, "Does anyone have the original TV image that tibob1 used for this card?"

That said, if you have to go hunting to find the original poster/sharer's information, I wouldn't ask you to go through that much effort. If someone else on the forum recognizes the shared image and posts source information, so much the better.

1978 Orioles

Now that I have many, though not most, of my personal 1978 White Whales, I thought I'd turn my attention back to those for whom I need something just a bit better than I already have.

For the 1978 Orioles, does anyone have Mike Anderson, Don Stanhouse or Gary Roenicke (note tha Roenicke didn't begin wearing the football face mask until 1979).

Thanks as always!

I am sorry I can't provide you with any images for colorozation.

I was delighted to provide you with images for you to enhance as you said it gave you pleasure. I cannot do so any more for a number of reasons.

The main reason is that we all of us give up hours and hours of our own time to pursue a hobby not to make money. We don't own the images we share so we are not entitled to make money from them. I do not own the images I submit for colorization so I have no right to make any money from them or assist anyone else to do so.

If we attempt to make from money through the site we risk putting the site at risk. Recently we have seen many petty objections to images that have been posted. I am clear in my own mind that the biggest threat to the site would be if we were to attempt to make money from them.

Asking for money for colorizations also sets a most unwelcome precedent. Others have spent many years providing beautiful, excellent examples free of charge and it would undermine both their efforts in the past and the future for them to do so if others are making money from colorizations.

I do not want to intrude of your preference to work on Cardinals images if you have no great interest in providing color images for other teams.

I am very sad that this happened as you do have a lot of talent and I think if you were prepared to give more time on working in images you find challenging it would further enhance your skills.

Regards

Nigel

Thanks for the insight into my mind and motives and your perceptive analysis.

The real reason I left the site and I have only told 2 people this in full and privately was that 5 people made complaints against my posts. I have been contributing to this site in a similar manner for numerous years and I don't know why my posts are suddenly unacceptable. None of these individuals spoke to me directly and I have no idea who they are. The fact that there were 5 suggests to me it was orchestrated.

This brought matters to a head for me for I have been unhappy for a long time with the direction the facepack thread has taken.

This exacerbated the out of line comments in respect of my not attributing a source to baseball-birthdays.com. Any one who examines my posts will be aware that I have done so consistently. In addition I provided the site owner with significant information which he used on the site, and if he did so without crediting me as the source I have no objections whatsoever.

It was said to me that if I was uncomfortable then I was doing the best thing by leaving. I returned because of the communication I received from people I respect.

Thanks to the 2 posters in making me realise that I do not belong any more on this thread and I made a mistake in returning.
