July 12 - 19 1971 Trades
Traded AA SS Phillip Mundy age 23 2.0/2.5 for SS/2B Davey Johnson age 28 2.5. SD has had Johnson on the block since spring training. I've inquired occasionally but this is the first time I thought the deal was right. He's on the IL right now with uncertain return. When I activate him (assuming no one else is injured) he'll replace 34 yo Roberto Pena 2.0 on the 25 man. Ha ha. Now that I have him I see why SD wanted him gone. They had him for $71k this year but next year he wants $304k as part of a five year deal with AAV of $294k Traded Davey Johnson age 28 2.5 as SS 3.0 as 2B for SP Ken Holtzman age 25 2.5. Holtzman is making $112k this year and had an arb estimate for 1972 of $130k. Traded RP Mike Cuellar age 34 2.5 and AAA LF John Regent age 23 2.0/2.5 for AA SP Michael Slade age 22 1.5/2.0 and A ball SS Louis Bagwell age 24 1.5/1.5. The purpose of this is to make a spot in the bullpen for Holtzman and to get rid of Cuellar's salary. He's due three more years at $244k. He's a possible late rotation SP for an average team. As a RP Holtzman is 3.0. Ken Holtzman, Mike Cuellar |

Notes on all minority lineup
It was nice to be able to do in this save what the Pirates did real life. Gene Clines and Rennie Stennett who were on the historical team are playing for the Pirates AAA team. Since I don't have Sept 1 roster expansion enabled they weren't available to play. Dock Ellis, the historical starting pitcher for the Pirates started for the Phils! What are the chances? It was Bob Gibson's turn to pitch so I changed nothing there. Had he been unavailable I would have pulled Juan Marichal out of the pen for the start. Has there been an all minority lineup before in this save? I have no way of checking for sure but a majority of teams can be eliminated from being able to do it due to the lack of a minority catcher. Some that have a minority C don't have any minority SPs. Those two situations knocked out most of the teams. I did a detailed analysis on the few that remained. They lacked the IF or OF personnel needed to accomplish the feat. |

I see that you are using a 5-man rotation, but how many arms do you have in the bullpen? 6-7?

Start highest. That way it gives more starts to Dock Ellis! LOL.
