August 2301 - BNN Weekly Report - August 19
Ten games to go and only one of the 10 playoff spots are clinched! That will change this coming week, but the end of the season is mostly exciting for all seeds but #1 in the NCA.
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 19 August 2301 Players of the Week NCA Star of the Week Chosen: It's always a thrill for fans of the team and students of the game alike when a superstar in the making shows what he's got. The Vault 81 shortstop wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .526 average (10-for-19) with 1 home run and 5 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. Standings Team Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (128.7, o) 2) Atom Cats (113.4, o) 3) Vault 81 Dwellers (112.5, ++) 4) University Point Deathclaws (107.2, -) 5) Diamond City Swatters (105.5, -) 6) Concord Radstags (102.0, +) 7) Starlight Lady Killers (101.3, ++) 8) Salem Witch Hats (100.2, -) 9) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (98.5, +) 10) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (96.7, -) 11) FHE Yao Guai (93.8, +) 12) County Crossing Bloodbugs (91.5, --) 13) Easy Town Assaultrons (91.2, +) 14) Abernathy Adamantium (89.7, --) 15) Quincy Gunners (87.2, +) 16) Goodneighbor Hancocks (85.2, +) 17) Egret Ninjas (80.3, -) 18) Roxbury Rad Sox (76.8, ++) 19) The Slog Ghouls (76.3, ++) 20) Lexington Synths (72.8, -) 21) Oberland T-51s (71.1, --) 22) Finch Farm Four Leafs (65.6, -) 23) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (61.1, o) 24) Warwick Mirelurks (50.3, o) Analysis We will not pretend to predict everything to come, but we do know that Nordhagen Beach (#1) is the team to go through in the North Charles Association on the way to the Sole Survivor Series. The Party Boys need an 8-2 week to match Goodneighbor's 2298 season for the best record in CBO history. The rest of the Top 5 is made up of South Charles Association teams. Atom (#2) has risen to just a game back of University Point (#4) in both the Minutemen League standings and for the #1 seed in the SCA. The Cats had been 9-1 in June before hitting a snag by losing 2 of 3 at Goodneighbor (#16) over the weekend. However, the Deathclaws had a dreadful 1-4 week, including losing two at home to Diamond City (#5) and then 2 of 3 versus Quincy (#15). Vault 81 jumped into the #3 spot, which includes a current claim to the #2 seed in the SCA. The Dwellers had a 3-2 week with a split with the Gunners and a weekend series win over Egret (#17). The Swatters got swept by Roxbury (#18), resulting in a loss of their two-game Railroad League heading into the weekend. Both the #1 seed chase in the SCA among the Claws, Cats, Dwellers, and Swatters and the race in the NCA for the #2 seed among Concord (#6), Starlight (#7), Fort Hagen (#9), and Abernathy (#14) are exciting. As a secondary chase, the NCA's chase for #3 that includes all four teams in the Institute League and the Brotherhood League's Salem (#8) and County Crossing (#12). Jumping first into the SCA's #1 chase, University Point and Diamond City are on the road for the next five, but play no current playoff teams. The Deathclaws will travel to Oberland (#21) and Quincy, while the Swatters visit Quincy and Egret. Atom faces Vault 81 in the midweek for a huge series for both teams. On the weekend, the Cats host Jamaica Plain (#10), while the Dwellers host the Rad Sox. In the Brotherhood League, Salem and the Bloodbugs both have a tough week in facing all playoff-quality teams, including each other in County Crossing over the weekend. The Witch Hats also visit first-place Concord in the midweek, while the Bloodbugs host Fort Hagen. In addition to hosting the Hats, the Radstags have the second-easiest weekend schedule with a trip to Lexington (#20). The Silver Shroud have the easiest weekend path by hosting Sunshine Tidings (#23). Starlight will face The Slog (#19) before traveling to Abernathy, while the Adamantium will challenge Finch Farm (#22) in the midweek. Playoff Picture Through 98 Games NCA: 1. x-Nordhagen Beach - clinched #1 seed 2. Concord - Playoff chances = 97.9% 3. Salem - Playoff chances = 80.6% 4. Starlight - Playoff chances = 76.2% 5. Warwick Minor League Report BMU Wilde Selected Top Player: One of the league's most exciting young players, Hunter Wilde of the Malden Grognaks earned himself Commonwealth Association Player of the Week honors with a standout performance in last week's games. For the week the 22-year-old first baseman had a lofty .455 average (5-for-11), collecting 3 home runs, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. So far in 2301 Wilde is batting .307 with 35 home runs, 79 RBIs and 48 runs scored. He has 70 hits in 228 at-bats and a .378 OBP. Dallas Week's #1 Player: Jon Dallas has the tools to stick in this league for many years. The 22-year-old first baseman of the Vault 95 Robobrains had a hot bat in the Massachusetts Association over the past seven days and won the Player of the Week honors. Dallas batted .455 with 5 hits in 11 at-bats, 4 home runs and 6 RBIs. Looking at his season stats, Dallas has compiled a .326 batting average and a .450 on-base percentage, while hitting 32 home runs and driving in 65 runs. Standings GBRL NL Presents Player of the Week Trophy: Jay Hall burst onto the North League stage in a big way last week. This promising rookie third baseman for Cambridge garnered everyone's respect by putting up some remarkable numbers and picking up the Player of the Week trophy. The 21-year-old haunted opposing pitchers hitting .455 (5-for-11) with 3 home runs and 3 RBIs last week. For the season Hall has hit .283 with 8 home runs and 16 RBIs. He has played in 31 games and scored 18 times. SL Names Best Player: So far in his young career, Moxie Morris has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the South League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 20-year-old Coast Guard Pier Demolitionists right fielder hit at a torrid .583 clip as he collected 7 hits in 12 at-bats, 1 home run, 9 RBIs and 6 runs scored. This year Morris has collected a .275 batting average to date with 25 hits in 91 at-bats, 23 RBIs, 5 home runs and scored 14 times. He has played in 27 games. Standings

Standings Team Power Rankings Weekly Team Power Rankings: Here are the current team power rankings for Commonwealth Baseball Organization: Teams (Total Points, Tendency): 1) Nordhagen Beach Party Boys (140.3, o) 2) Atom Cats (112.3, o) 3) University Point Deathclaws (111.1, +) 4) County Crossing Bloodbugs (106.6, ++) 5) Easy Town Assaultrons (103.6, ++) 6) Vault 81 Dwellers (102.9, --) 7) Concord Radstags (102.4, -) 8) Diamond City Swatters (101.9, --) 9) Starlight Lady Killers (100.9, -) 10) Abernathy Adamantium (99.1, ++) 11) Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (94.4, -) 12) Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (89.6, --) 13) Goodneighbor Hancocks (89.1, ++) 14) Salem Witch Hats (89.1, --) 15) FHE Yao Guai (85.1, --) 16) Oberland T-51s (84.4, ++) 17) Quincy Gunners (84.4, -) 18) Egret Ninjas (80.9, -) 19) Roxbury Rad Sox (75.7, -) 20) Lexington Synths (67.2, o) 21) Sunshine Tidings Chemists (65.4, +) 22) The Slog Ghouls (62.7, --) 23) Warwick Mirelurks (57.9, +) 24) Finch Farm Four Leafs (55.2, -) Analysis With just five games to play, only five of the 10 teams have clinched a playoff spot. While some teams are close, there are five spots remaining, including four in the North Charles Association, so let's start there. We mentioned that Nordhagen Beach (#1) needed to go 8-2 in their final 10 to match the CBO's best-ever record. Well, after winning seven straight, they only need to go 3-2 this week to match that mark and set a new mark with a 4-1 or 5-0 week. The Beach Boys cut through Lexington (#20) and Finch Farm (#24) with few problems, holding the two teams to a combined seven runs in the five-game week. Just last week, they shut out the Four Leafs in back-to-back games with Beachboy Nut (16-3, 2.20) and Tommy Beach (17-4, 2.83) both putting up two of the best performances of the 2301 season. The Boys will have a tougher week this week when they travel to two teams fighting for their playoff lives: Starlight (#9) and Salem (#14). Concord (#7) has the best chance to clinch the Institute League and the #2 spot in the NCA. The Radstags have to travel to the Witch Hats and then get their chance to potentially eliminate Abernathy (#10) in the final three. The Lady Killers get the tough task of facing Nordhagen Beach in the midweek, but they get to finish the season with the Synths, giving them a much better chance to at least stay ahead of the Adamantium and Fort Hagen (#12) for the 3rd or 4th seed. Abernathy currently hold the 5th seed, but they will have a tough chance to maintain that place with road trips to The Slog (#22) and Concord. The Silver Shroud have been struggling, but they may have the easiest remaining schedule hosting Easy Town (#5) and traveling to Sunshine Tidings (#21). The midweek games against the Assaultrons will serve as an elimination series with one team needing a sweep for a realistic chance at the playoffs. Speaking of the Assaultrons, they have been the hottest team in the NCA in their last 10 (8-2) and won all five games this past week over the Chemists and Ghouls. They are now just two games back of the 5th spot, which they can gain if they win all of their road games this week at Fort Hagen and The Slog. Currently holding the 3rd seed, County Crossing (#4) had a big 5-0 week, including a weekend sweep of Salem to take a two-game lead for 2nd place in the Brotherhood League. The Bloodbugs also hold a one-game lead over the Lady Killers for the 3rd seed in the NCA in their pursuit of their first-ever CBO playoffs appearance. While they do not have a 100% chance to clinch a spot, we expect them to win most of their remaining five games at Lexington and Finch Farm. Opposite of the Bloodbugs, the Witch Hats struggled this week, which currently has them on the outside looking in for the playoffs. Even though their final five are all at home, they get the toughest match in clinching a playoff spot by hosting both 1st place teams, Concord and Nordhagen Beach. Good luck! In the SCA, four of the teams are determined, but seeding is still up for grabs for the 1st-4th seeds. University Point (#3) holds a one-game lead over Atom (#2) for 1st place in the Minutemen League and the South Charles Association thanks to a weekend sweep of Quincy (#17). The Cats have been the biggest surprise of 2301 with a good balance of pitching and hitting all season, and they could legitimately win the Sole Survivor Series. Looking forward in the likely race for the 1st and 3rd seeds in the SCA, the Cats do not have it easy, having to travel to both Diamond City (#8) and to the Deathclaws to finish. We are predicting University Point to take the league, especially since their midweek series is at Roxbury (#19), which has been better as of late but still nowhere near the Claws in current talent. In the Railroad League, the Swatters are still tied with Vault 81 (#6), with the edge probably going to the Dwellers. Vault 81 hosts Warwick (#23) before finishing the season at the Rad Sox. Meanwhile, the Swatters will face Atom as mentioned before and then travel to FHE (#15), which could be fighting for its playoff life as the 5th seed. Jamaica Plain (#11) holds the inside edge for the 5th seed by hosting both Egret and Quincy. The Red Rockets have a Magic Number of 3 to clinch that spot. Going 2-3 this week probably gets them there to face probably Diamond City in the first round of the playoffs. Playoff Picture Through 103 Games NCA: 1. x-Nordhagen Beach - clinched #1 seed 2. Concord - Playoff chances = 99.3% 3. County Crossing - Playoff chances = 99.1% 4. Starlight - Playoff chances = 86.8% 5. Abernathy (head-to-head tiebreaker over Salem) - Playoff chances = 68.0% Close: 6. Salem - Playoff chances = 37.7% Outside Looking In: 7. Easy Town (head-to-head tiebreaker over Fort Hagen) - Playoff chances = 3.5% 8. Fort Hagen - Playoff chances = 5.7% Eliminated: 9. The Slog 10. Finch Farm 11. Lexington 12. Sunshine Tidings SCA: 1. z-University Point - Clinched playoff spot 2. z - V81 - (Better league record than Diamond City) - Clinched playoff spot 3. z - Atom - Clinched playoff spot 4. z - Diamond City - Clinched playoff spot 5. Jamaica Plain - Playoff chances = 96.0% Outside Looking In: 6. Goodneighbor (head-to-head tiebreaker over FHE) - Playoff chances = 1.7% 7. FHE - Playoff chances = 0.6% 8. Quincy - Playoff chances = 1.7% Eliminated: 9. Egret 10. Oberland 11. Roxbury 12. Warwick Minor League Report BMU CA's Top Player, Sebiess of Corvega: 22-year-old Jarrod Sebiess made a few Corvega headlines during this past week as the rookie second baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and Commonwealth Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort. He cracked 9 hits in 16 at-bats to put up a .562 average. Sebiess collected 1 home run, 7 RBIs and scored 4 runs. Sebiess is currently batting .263 with 4 home runs, 17 RBIs and 19 runs scored. He has 46 hits in 175 at-bats. Niederer Takes This Week's Trophy: Jason Niederer demonstrated his potential to be a star in the game last week and today he took home the Massachusetts Association Player of the Week Award. The Cabot House center fielder wreaked havoc on opposing pitchers last week, pounding them for a .556 average (10-for-18) with 2 home runs and 5 RBIs on his way to claiming the honor. Currently Niederer is batting .393 with 6 home runs and 25 RBIs. Standings GBRL North League's Best Batter Announced: It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the North League, but last week Anthony Marlow of the Clifton Vertibirds reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week. Marlow rocked opposing pitching for a .538 average (7-for-13), 2 home runs and 10 RBIs to come away with the award. Currently Marlow is hitting .238 and has collected 3 home runs, 21 RBIs and scored 16 times, while playing in 35 games. SL Presents Player of the Week Trophy: So far in his young career, Orcin Cardinal has kept a low profile, but after his performance at the plate last week, he attracted the notice of the rest of the South League in a big way as he was named the Player of the Week today for his efforts. The 19-year-old Poseidon Energy Mongrels right fielder hit at a torrid .400 clip as he collected 6 hits in 15 at-bats, 4 home runs, 10 RBIs and 4 runs scored. Thus far this season in 69 games Cardinal is batting .295 with 25 home runs, 66 RBIs and 55 runs scored. He has 74 hits in 251 at-bats. Standings

I know I've swung back and forth between "this is not going to be a repeat year" and "this is a repeat year", but this deep in the season I can at least say I'm satisfied. Lots of drama, teams at least had their chance if they didn't make it, etc, and if we get something like the Lady Killers making a triumphant return, then I say that's a nice something to set this year apart.

Nice still seeing three good races going on as the season winds down. A lot could happen in the Institute league with the teams all so close to Wild Card spots

Also, as I just showed above, County Crossing and Salem are both battling for their first-ever trip to the playoffs. One of them is probably in unless some major shenanigans happen where Easy Town passes both.

Huh, it actually completely slipped my mind that Salem had never been to the playoffs. I guess what they lack in success they make up for in branding, because they definitely are on our minds a lot.
Edit: Salem are the Mariners confirmed. |

The difference between Salem and the other three teams is that the Witch Hats have never been bad. Their worst season was a .472 clip with only two losing seasons out of the six (including this season). In 2296, they lost the 2nd-place tiebreaker game to The Slog. The Ghouls ended up winning it all, but that season's results could have been much different.

August 2301 - BNN Weekly Report - August 29
BNN Weekly Report This Week in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 29 August 2301 Midweek Report Current Standings Analysis With three games left to go, the CBO still has five playoff spots up for grabs. The SCA is the easiest starting point because it is simple. Jamaica Plain beat Egret twice, officially eliminating Quincy and Goodneighbor. FHE also won twice, but they need to win all three this weekend with the Red Rockets losing all three. If that happens, the two teams finish in a tie. Otherwise, the Rockets are in. In the NCA, there was some movement. First of all, the Fort Hagen-Easy Town series was indeed an elimination series as the Silver Shroud won both. That included Mike Cartrette throwing a two-hit shutout yesterday in a dominating performance. Since the rest of the Institute League lost its series, the Shroud also keep themselves in contention for the 4th seed. The Party Boys put down Starlight in two pitchers' delights, 3-1 and 2-1. Salem won both games over Concord with 4-1 and 2-0 victories, including a two-hit shutout by Terrence Artman. In the two upset series, The Slog knocked down Abernathy in both games, as well as Lexington hurting the County Crossing Bloodbugs' pursuit of their first playoff appearance. As it stands in the North Charles Association, if the playoffs started today (minus tiebreaker games), the Party Boys are #1, Concord is #2, the Bloodbugs are #3, Starlight is #4, and Salem is #5. Abernathy and Fort Hagen are both just one game back of the Lady Killers, though, for that 4th seed. In the Brotherhood League, the Bloodbugs travel to Finch Farm, while the Witch Hats host Nordhagen Beach. In the Institute League, Concord and Abernathy will beat up on each other. Starlight hosts Lexington, while Fort Hagen travels to Sunshine Tidings. In the battle for the Railroad League, Vault 81 travels to Roxbury, while Diamond City goes to FHE. University Point hosts Atom in the Minutemen League with the Cats needing a road sweep to take the league title. Jamaica Plain needs one win over Quincy or a Yao Guai loss against the Swatters. CBO Scores - August 27 and August 28

Final Day!
Holy moly! This has been a turn of events. The final day in the NCA is going to be one of legend! If Abernathy, Fort Hagen, and Starlight all win, then this will be an epic finish.

September 2301 - BNN Monthly Report - September 1
BNN Monthly Report Last Month in the CBO, BMU, and GBRL by Nat Wright-Kawolski 1 September 2301 CBO Players of the Month NCA's Top Hitter Selected: Fort Hagen Silver Shroud fans may just have witnessed a star player blossoming before their eyes in August. Ben Pawlak put up a remarkable month at the age of 24 and has been named the North Charles Association Batter of the Month. For the month, Pawlak hit .461 with 4 home runs, 16 RBIs and 23 runs scored. This season Pawlak is swinging the bat at a .346 rate with 145 hits in 419 at-bats. To date he has hit 22 home runs, scored 88 runs and driven in 70. Vault 81's Bather Chosen SCA Batter of the Month: Vault 81 Dwellers fans believe they've got a talented young star in Knud Bather. He did nothing to dissuade that notion in August, as he hit .414 with 12 home runs, 26 RBIs and 22 runs scored. The end result was the shortstop being named the South Charles Association Batter of the Month. In the 2301 season Bather is hitting .286 with 27 home runs. North Charles Association Selects #1 Starter in August: The elite pitcher this past month in the North Charles Association was Brad Westing of the Abernathy Adamantium. He stood head and shoulders above the rest, finishing August with an extraordinary 5-0 record and a 2.35 ERA. The Adamantium star hurler made 6 starts and surrendered 42 hits in 46 innings. He struck out 29 and walked 22. His record this season is 13-9 in 27 starts and Westing has a 4.01 ERA. Taguchi Chosen August's Best SCA Hurler: When Scruffy Taguchi takes the hill, chances are good for a Atom victory. At least that's the way it was in May. He excelled with a 4-1 mark and 1.51 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 47.2 innings, fanned 37 and held others clubs to a .215 average. That's why the Cats star was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the South Charles Association. In 26 starts this year Taguchi has fashioned a 13-7 record and a 3.23 ERA. Red-Hot County Crossing Rookie Rated NCA's Best: In August, Aimer Doghair was tops in his class! The County Crossing first-year pitcher put up some super stats and has been voted the North Charles Association Rookie of the Month. He made 6 starts, logged 45.1 innings, struck out 21 and compiled a 4.57 ERA. He finished the month with a 3-2 record and held opposing teams to a .286 batting average. Doghair has made 11 starts this season, posting 6 wins and 6 losses. Opposing clubs are batting .285 against him and he has 47 strikeouts in 101 innings with a 4.37 ERA. August's #1 SCA Rookie Named: The Rookie of the Month Award has been announced and the South Charles Association winner is University Point hurler, Wilson Beachball. For his standout performances in August he has been named the league's best rookie. During the month, Beachball excelled with a 2.86 ERA and 4 wins and 2 losses. In 44 innings he struck out 23 and gave up 31 hits and 19 walks. This year Beachball has a 20-5 record with a 3.16 ERA. BMU Players of the Month CA Best Hitter Trophy Goes to Noggin: The premier hitter in the Commonwealth Association in August was Everett first baseman Josh Noggin. For his standout play, he was voted the Batter of the Month. Noggin was selected after batting .327, hitting 7 home runs, scoring 16 runs and driving in 19. This season Noggin is swinging the bat at a .337 pace. He has hit 11 home runs and scored 23 times, while driving in 31. His on-base percentage is .430 and he has played in 51 games. MA's Best Batter Selected: Even though he is a newcomer to Boston Minor Union, Kern Rifleman put up some good numbers in August and earned the MA Batter of the Month award. He was one of Cabot House's offensive leaders with a .442 average in 14 games. He also racked up 9 home runs, 25 RBIs, and 15 runs scored. For the season Rifleman is currently batting .414 with 31 home runs and 79 RBIs. In 49 games he has reached base at a .487 rate and scored 59 runs to date. Everett Starter Selected Best Pitcher: The Pitcher of the Month Award in August has been selected and the Commonwealth Association honor went to Everett hurler, Elijah Robinson. For his excellent performance he has been named the league's top pitcher. During the month, Robinson was superb with a 1.48 ERA and 2 wins and no losses. In 24.1 innings he struck out 12 and gave up 18 hits and 6 walks. This season in 16 starts Elijah Robinson has a record of 5-8 with 56 strikeouts in 92 innings and a 5.87 ERA. Failure Acclaimed Top Pitcher in August: Over the past month Roger Failure has turned quite a few heads. He's young, talented and able to pitch with the established arms in the Massachusetts Association. He proved all that and now he's been named August's Pitcher of the Month. A three way tie would have been awesome! Still an epic way to end the season. I think we're going to see Party Boys vs. Swatters, with the Party Boys taking it all. They've been so dominate this season, hard to see them stopping now

In the tiebreaker games, Starlight defeated Fort Hagen and then County Crossing defeated Starlight for their crooked numbers of games. In the SCA, Diamond City beat Vault 81 for 1st place in the RL. Nordhagen Beach's 12-game win streak to finish the season also earned them the best season ever with their 79-29 record, beating Goodneighbor's record by two games. There were lots of records set, especially in pitching. I will just post that here.

2301 - CBO Playoffs - SCA: Vault 81 vs Jamaica Plain
#4 Vault 81 Dwellers(63-46) vs #5 Jamaica Plain Red Rockets (59-49)
Season Series: Vault 81 8, Jamaica Plain 0 April 2-3 @V81: V81 3-2, V81 6-5 April 7-8 @JP: V81 5-2, V81 5-2 June 25-26 @V81: V81 10-2, V81 11-10 July 9-10 @JP: V81 9-6, V81 3-2 Vault 81 Home Page Jamaica Plain Home Page Game 1 Matchup Analysis After losing a tiebreaker game to Diamond City for the Railroad League crown, the Dwellers dropped from a first-round bye to the #4 seed. Lucky for them, they get the team they dominated most in the 2301 season, the Jamaica Plain Red Rockets. Vault 81 is a well-balanced team, finishing 2nd in the SCA in runs scored (580) while allowing the 5th-most runs (501). The heart of the scary-good offense is CF Aesed Hayjen (.348/29/84), the team's triple crown winner. Around Hayjen are some other strong pieces in RF Deer Quickwalker (.306/26/80), 2B Harry Byrd (.288/16/62), and SS Knud Bather (.281/27/80). The 1-2-3 combination in the starting lineup is pretty good for the team with the SCA's 3rd best Starters ERA (4.15). Ace Vince McCort returned from injury and started dominating, going 7-3 with a 2.12 ERA in just 13 starts. The Dwellers traded for Quentin Malone (13-13, 4.46) from Easy Town. Edwin Mass (16-7, 3.36) had the most success in leading the team in his own triple crown for pitching. In the bullpen, Vault 81 is not as good. CL Justin Sumbich (17 SV, 3.83) is serviceable but needs to be better. He did show improvement once he came over from Finch Farm, dropping his ERA from 4.50. Tom Rose (25 SV, 2.23) was the closer before and now becomes the best option out of the bullpen unless Mass or Danny Haines (14-8, 4.90) gets a lot of postseason innings. Jamaica Plain returns to the playoffs after getting a taste last season. The Red Rockets were able to enjoy success as the 4th seed, getting a victory over Minutemen League rivals, the University Point Deathclaws. While the Claws climbed to the #1 seed this season, the Rockets dropped a spot. Part of that drop is through limited success on offense, including the 8th-most runs scored (498) and the 10th-best batting average (.249). In fact, no player hit over .300 with RF Goody Cloyse (.299/9/42) coming closest. LF Carney Cornseed (.284/26/75) and C Ayag Mour (.280/11/52) are the Rockets' best overall players. 1B Cody Flatt (.213/23/66) continues to be the CBO's best home run hitter, but he struggled at the plate a lot in 2301. While the offense has struggled, the pitching has kept Jamaica Plain afloat. They finished tied for 3rd in runs allowed (487) with the 4th-best Starters ERA (4.27). The young combination of SP Digger Vadim (13-9, 3.90) and SP Chris Deathclaw (14-5, 3.02) has been highly effective. Unfortunately, their ace, Chris Teddybear (4-1, 3.86) suffered another serious injury, meaning reliever-turned-starter Aldo Sanch (7-13, 5.60) is likely to get the start if there is a third game in this series. Prediction Vault 81 has had the Red Rockets' number all season, and there is no reason to think anything will change. The Dwellers take this one, 2-0.

2301 - CBO Playoffs - NCA: Starlight vs Fort Hagen
#4 Starlight Lady Killers (59-51) vs #5 Fort Hagen Silver Shroud (58-51)
Season Series: Starlight 7, Fort Hagen 6 May 3-5 @Star: Star 5-3, FtH 6-4, Star 3-2 May 17-19 @FtH: FtH 3-1, FtH 7-4, Star 5-4 July 5-6 @Star: FtH 11-7, FtH 9-2, Star 7-4 August 9-11 @FtH: Star 4-1, Star 11-6, FtH 9-3 September 2 @FtH: Star 5-3 Starlight Home Page Fort Hagen Home Page Game 1 Matchup Analysis This has been a good series throughout the season, and Starlight should have the slight home-field advantage based on seeding. Still, the Lady Killers are not regulars to the playoffs like Fort Hagen is. With the Killers entering this series a little more banged up--SP Chris Schneier, LF Jesus Church, and backup LF Ryan Raider all out--it will be a tough battle. The loss of Church certainly hurts Starlight's lineup. His replacement for this series, Malachi Barnes hit only .178 with the BMU's Mystic Pines Raybathers this season. Overall, though, the Killers produce runs, tied for 2nd in runs scored (561) in the NCA and 1st in home runs (123). The power mostly comes from the big boppers, RF David Seaweed (.287/33/99), who led the CBO in homers, and 1B Zeldolph Violet (.327/28/100). 3B Hubris McBride (.271/12/54) and CF Glenn Higinbotham (.288/13/47) also produce with their power. The pitching is where Starlight loses any advantage, allowing the 8th most runs (510). SP Roberto Gonzales (16-8, 3.89), who came from Salem this season, has been the most successful pitcher with ace Schneier out. Ray Human (5-9, 4.40) and Justin Sphinx (10-12, 4.80) are not going to help win many games. CL Larry Undertaker (31 SV, 2.77) has been OK out of the bullpen. Fort Hagen would usually flaunt its balanced team, but the Silver Shroud had a hard time staying healthy. Right now, they are healthy, which makes them dangerous. Most notably, 2B Mark Miller (.292/0/2) came back to play the last 13 games of the season. The Shroud finished 4th in runs scored (546), led by CF Ben Pawlak (.346/22/70). Other contributors include 1B Jim Tiller (.331/8/65), though seeming to lose his power, SS Well Done Dungan (.305/3/30), and rookie RF Gargoyle Falcone (.314/2/60). Pitching also missed out on some success, mostly thanks to SP Mike Cartrette (6-5, 3.63) missing some time. The Shroud were 7th in runs allowed (504), but 3rd in Starters ERA (3.77). Ace Derek Green (17-6, 3.00) had another stellar season, and Brent Hooker (13-4, 3.36) both pitched well. Matt Hope (9-12, 4.98) did not do as well and will need to pitch from the bullpen in the playoffs. Curtis Thriceshot (31 SV, 3.44) closed down a lot of games, but Fort Hagen could use better production from that position, especially with the NCA's 12th-best Bullpen ERA (4.27). Prediction With the Silver Shroud pitching, they can neutralize the Starlight power. We will lean towards playoff experience and predict Fort Hagen to take this series, 2 games to 1.

I just realized I should be rooting for Jamaica Plain (although I can't see them winning it); Ayag Mour has become a nice catcher
