Joe La-hoooood (you don't have to try to give it five o's worth - just trying to emphasize that it isn't La-Hood as in the hood of your car), and Lynn Muh-GLOTH-en (similar to Jim McGlothlin only without that second L).
Going to revise my assessment on your first question. BLASSING-game is much closer to how Wade Blasingame pronounced his name than the version I gave you that had more of a "blah" quality to it. |

Milt Wilcox - Cubs 1975
Good morning, I was hoping that someone might have this Topps Vault pic of pitcher Milt Wilcox in a larger/more defined resolution size. For what I need it for, bigger is better.
Thanks in advance! Last edited by hobbs11; 02-07-2015 at 09:26 AM. |

Mike Patterson - 1982 Yankees
I recently acquired a lot of Yankees photos from 1982. I'm a Mets fan, not a Yankees fan so, outside of Winfield and Bob Watson, I don't recognize most of these people. The ones I don't know will likely be posted at some point on Baseball Birthdays. Anywho, two of them are labeled. One is Bob Sykes, who came to the Yankees in exchange for Willie McGee. Not one of the Yankees better trades as Sykes never pitched for them in the regular season and McGee was a pretty special player for the Cardinals. This is the other, which is labeled Mike Patterson. I wouldn't know Mike Patterson from a hole in the ground, but, assuming the photog knew who he was shooting, I don't see a lot of Mike Patterson pictures out there.

Not Only Is That Mike Patterson
...but he's got a tiny Mickey Vernon growing out of his right shoulder!

If you want to post the unidentified ones here, I covered the '82 Yankees and was at their camp in '83 so I might be able to ID them.

Post the rest of your Yankees here. The 80's are my specialty, and I know most of the Yanks from that decade. |

Jay Loviglio Chicago White Sox 1982 uniform
Jay Loviglio was an obscure infielder of the early 80's. He got cups with the 1980 Phillies, the 1981 and 1982 White Sox, and the 1983 Cubs. There are several images of Jay with the Chisox in their 1890's style uniform, but the watermarked Chicago Tribune image below is the only picture of him that I have ever seen in the Sox' killer-bee style 1982-86 uniform. It shows Loviglio right after being put out trying to score from third in a September 13th 1982 game with the Angels.

Harold Reynolds in first or second season with Mariners
There are plenty of Harold Reynolds pictures around, but not many of his earliest days with the Mariners. The photo below is the only color shot of Harold that I have seen which shows him in the Mariners' 81-84 uniform, which means that it had to have been taken in 1983 or 1984. The photo is from ebay seller autographsink.

Jim Scranton KC Royals 1984-1985
Jim Scranton was a Royals shortstop prospect of the mid-80's. He got two auditions with the big club, one in '84 and another in '85. The first picture below comes from Jim's web site. The other is cropped from an Argenta Images news photo of the Royals September 1984 pennant celebration found on ebay.

Early Fred Manrique with Blue Jays
Second baseman Fred Manrique got a couple of trials with the Blue Jays before moving on. I think this is from his first (1981), since he doesn't have the mustache he wore later in his career. The picture comes from ebay seller andy1921.

Luis DeLeon 1989 Mariners
Luis DeLeon was a fairly successful right-handed reliever for several years in the early 80's with the Cardinals and Padres. Then his career slid into mediocrity, and by 1989 he was probably grateful to get a few mop-up innings with the Mariners. The picture below comes from ebay seller andy1921.

Mystery Yankees - Part 1
Anybody who thought there might be some white whales among the Yankees I don't recognize should disabuse yourself of that notion. I've bought a lot of pictures from this particular vendor and that Mike Patterson was a very unusual thing. The only other difficult find I've encountered was Rusty Tillman of the Mets (posted at Baseball Birthdays). I've also spent some time with them, now, and feel I can identify more of them than I thought. Anyway, these two, to me, look like a young Willie Randolph, but I'm not confident of that ID.
