Larry Milbourne - 1982 Yankees

And I know this one is Larry Milbourne. How do I know that? Because it looks almost exactly like this posting from bearman14 several years back. I've always believed these pictures were the rejected shots of an MLB free-lancer and the earlier Milbourne and a few other MLB 8x10s are the reason for that belief.

Jerry Mumphrey - 1982 Yankees

The top one I recognize as Jerry Mumphrey. I'm thinking the bottom one is also.

Let's see. Young righthanders on the Yanks roster in early '82 included Jim Lewis, Stefan Wever, Jamie Werly, John Pacella, and Curt Kaufman. I don't know what Werly looked like (never made the majors), but this guy doesn't look like any of the others to me. A tough one, indeed.

Dave LaRoche - 1982 Yankees

I'll spare you the Winfields, Watsons, and Cerone for the moment. But this was my personal favorite from the lot. Dave LaRoche. Just a nice clear picture (imho).

This guy has a long and rather sharp nose, as Dave did. He is pretty lanky, and Dave was 6' 4." I think you might have it.

Just a note on these Yankee images. They were clearly taken in the spring and the first days of the regular season. The photographer (whoever he/she was) has caught the Yankees at a historic moment, a turning point in their history. The previous season, the Yanks had won their division (for the fifth time since 1976) and gone to the World Series (for the fourth time since 1976). This was a very good Yankee team. Probably within days after the latest of these pictures was taken, Steinbrenner began to destroy that team. He dumped a slew of players and brought in a crowd of strangers from Minnesota and elsewhere, thus confusing and demoralizing everybody. Bob Lemon, who had managed the Yanks in two series, was fired early in 82, to be succeeded by two more men before the season was over. The Yankee dynasty of the late 70's and early 80's was gone, and the franchise would not recover until well into the 1990's.

yeah id say Willie, thats who i guessed it was before i read that it was your guess too.
also recognize jerry mumphrey since he was a cardinal for some time.

found this Rick Sutcliffe photo, haven't seen a portrait style photo of him with the Cardinals before this photo.

Also

Getty Images says this is Edgar Renteria but IDK, im second guessing it. the photo is from spring training i believe. The player looks "Lighter" than Renteria

I think it might be Eduardo Perez who was also in Spring Training 1999

Here is a Comparison, also from Getty

Here's another Sutcliffe/Cardinals portrait, this one a little less formal.

1980-82 Dodgers Photos

Gents,

I just found all of my late 70s - early 80's Dodgers Yearbooks. I just scanned the 1981 book last night. If you folks want/need any of the photos I can post them here. If not, now biggie. I just threw it out there.

Here's a rookie shot of Pedro Guerrero.
