JD Martinez discussed on the intro. I just realized I will end up missing JD's Mets tenure entirely. So much for "one week" to get him in shape.

(I wouldn't think that being a Designated Hitter and Sitter required all that prep work. I mean, you can take batting practice whenever you want.)

I just called the glue factory. They'll pick up Houser on Monday morning.

Prior to today, Cards had scored nine runs in the first inning, all season. 26 games.

Houser is just what my Cardinals needed! I saw his huge ERA, and terrible pitching, and I fully expected two hits over seven innings, and another blowout.

You're confusing the Mets with what happens in OOTP when you come up against a guy that's 2-8 with a 5.87 ERA.

I always liked Sonny Gray, and I like him even more for putting Pete's #200 on a stick. How nice of him.

Can't keep his silly *** in the XXL runner's lane, golden sombrero and a first-pitch pop out with the tying runs on base to end the game, and all that for the special price of $341M.

But hey, at least the hair's nice.

Initially I thought it was a bad call about being out of the base line. It usually is. But...the dude was FEET onto the grass.

As far as the last out, it WAS a 101 mph heater from Helsey.

Yeah, you don't get much time to decide. The goal would have been to get Pete to the dish, somehow, but I would not have made yet another post about his day if it hadn't been for all the other stuff.

He was so far on the grass, he could have pinched Kitteredge in the left butt cheek without going any further left.

To be fair, Frankie did have a lovely game (2HR) in that last game I saw in SF.

Of course, he wasn't the only Met to torch the Blind Squirrels' staff that day. Tyrone Taylor had a HR and a double, causing me to wonder how often Our Beloved Ralph would have called him "Tyrone Power" back in the day, particularly when he was banging out the XBH.

Cardinals were 0-for-11 with RISP to begin the game. The Mets? Out-did them, of course, 0-for-15!

Hard to watch, as usual.

In a wave of nostalgia, I watched Steve "Urinating Tree" Linkowski's video on the 2021 Mets. (103 days in 1st place, finished under .500)

I had forgotten that Linkowski includes in the video that lineup, the one from the game against the Marlins in May, which I now post to preserve for posterity:

Jonathan Villar, 3b
Francisco Lindor, ss
Cameron Maybin, lf
Dominic Smith, 1b
Tomas Nido, c
Wilfredo Tovar, 2b
Joneshwy Fargas, cf
Khalil Lee, rf
Joey Lucchesi, p

(Yes, in 2021, pitchers still hit. O lost!)

Recall that the Mets win this game.
Recall that the Mets go 17-9 in May, their best month of the season.
And yet, despite overcoming the injuries that necessitated this (I mean, apparently even Kevin Pillar wasn't available here). they went into such a nosedive that they weren't even in contention in September.

I can't blame it all on Javy Baez, but gods, what a nightmare that year was.

(I had actually seen Wilfredo Tovar play before the Mets called him up. In 2017, Wilfredo was playing for the Columbia Fireflies when I visited SC to see the solar eclipse. [It was great; they stopped the game in the 3rd innning and played "Eclipse" by Pink Floyd during the event. I loved it so much, it's why I moved to South Carolina, aside from being way too poor to try and buy a house in California.]

The Fireflies lost, of course. Who says the Mets don't train them in the minors?)

Beaten 1-0 by the Cubbies on a sac fly by Pete Crow-Armstrong, whom the Cubs got when they dumped The Scourge at Short, Javier Baez on the Mets in '21.

I love the Mets, but justice has been served...

Well, I have noted that as Zak Scott was arrested for DUI later that year of Our Embarassment 2021, there's at least a decent chance he was drunk when he made the Baez trade, as well.

How Conforto.

You might be confused by that comment. It's a typo I once made when I tried to write "How comforting". I think it should become a thing though in Mets circles especially, also because good old Michael Conforto is also a guy they just loved to mess with and then frittered away for no greater gains. Mets things, y'know.

Which is also why I like to watch a Giants game when I can. Conforto and Wilmer are probably the most likeable no-longer-Mets still active out there.

The Andres Gimenez wound also still rues, although he's very streaky out there in Burning River, OH.

Houser's official photo looks like he's a nice enough chap that sadly has attention span issues and who has been fired from his last five jobs, but who does his very best and really needs the money because he has a very sick dog at home, but he's just driven another forklift into a closed warehouse door, and you just can't have him around anymore.....
