They might have just inadvertently flipped the negative/transparency in the eBay listing. It appeared correctly on the actual card.

Bill Singer 1964

Per request, here's the 1977 Topps proof card showing him in a Twins' uniform (sorry for the cropping - the scanner doesn't know what to do with white space).

While We're In This Album:

A couple of other '70s Topps proofs showing players in uniforms they spent limited amounts of time in, or didn't appear in on issued cards:

1970 Dick Selma (Cubs)
1972 Brock Davis (Cubs)
1973 Matty Alou (A's)
1978 Mike Torrez (Yankees)

The first three images were completely replaced for the issued cards after player trades. The Torrez was simply airbrushed to adjust to his signing with Boston.

The airbrush job on the issued '78 Torrez is really quite good -- particularly given Merkle's earlier note about how the Topps folks worked.

Bernard (Bernie) Williams 1970

Some odds and ends:

The "other" Bernie Williams, mostly of the Giants but a month with the Padres in 1974. I believe this image is online in several places but not in the (slightly) clearer original form of the Padres' team head shot.

Bill Murphy 1966

This is also not new, but given several pleas on here for a good color image of this one-season Mets' outfielder, I thought I could post a really cleaned-up version of how he appears on his 1966 Topps "rookie" card:

Gary Thomasson 1972

One more from my "I should post these" pile. Forgive me if I already did, but it's the outfielder-first baseman Gary Thomasson during his brief stay in New York in 1978. Took this one myself.

Thomasson must hold some kind of record. Counting the post-season he appeared in just 61 games for the Yankees, but was on the field as a defensive replacement as they won the A.L. East Division Tiebreaking Playoff at Boston (and caught the first out of the 9th), and as they won the final game of the ALCS (catching the last out of the series), and as they won they won the finale of the World Series (and caught the first out of the 9th).

As a curious note (and an unfair tease for those looking for the elusive color image of Thomasson in his equally short stay in Oakland the same year): notice his batting gloves? They're A's Green/Gold/White!

Count me as unfairly teased - I have a B&W of him as an A that I believe you posted, but the color image is a white whale. Odd, considering he was the A's right fielder for most of April, May and early June before his trade to the Yankees on the 15th. When he joined up with New York, they were at home against the Angels. I'm guessing this picture was taken somewhere in June 16-18, before they left for Boston, and before he got proper batting gloves.

Billy Cotton -- the plot thickens

I know this isn't quite the right forum for this, but since the discussion began here I thought it might be of interest -- maybe-he-is, maybe-he-isn't ghost Met Billy Cotton might be entitled to (or cursed with) his ghost status after all.

This research isn't mine, but from a friend of a friend who's a savant about Mets transactions. He confirmed the "recalled for next spring" article I found and shared, and says that was indeed the plan for Cotton. But he says that the Mets then started losing catchers and had to change their plans.

So below, left to right, we have the following:

1) Los Angeles Times baseball notes from Sept. 20 1972, announcing Jerry Grote's surgery and Mets' recall of Joe Nolan;

2) UPI story from Sept. 22, 1972 noting an injury to Duffy Dyer and Cotton's recall from Tidewater "for insurance"; and

3) Scorecard from Sept. 30, 1972 listing Cotton as on the roster.

Interesting!

Tom Bradley 1969

Hello... Just wondering if anybody might have Tom Bradley (not the L.A. Mayor), but the Pitcher, seeking photos of his early dominant Major/Minor League Seasons? I remember when he was "the next big thing" in Baseball.
I am trying to locate any photos of him at AA El Paso 1969 or 1970, AAA Hawaii 1969 or 1970, or 1969 1970 with California Angels. None to be found searching Google endlessly. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Cotton Comes To Flushing

As the primary Billy Cotton denier, I'm convinced. The scorecard evidence is terrific - most of them well into the late '70s were meticulously updated.

Having seen the files, I still marvel how the Topps photog - presumably the great Mickey Palmer - captured Joe Nolan but not Cotton (shown in a Morey photo taken in Syracuse) on September 22 or 23, 1972, the only two remaining home day games after each was summoned from the minors.

The box scores show that Nolan caught on the 21st and Bill Sudakis on the 22nd, then Dyer returned to action on the 23rd and the three of them caught the remainder of the Mets' 1972 games. I'd love to see a Mets-Phillies scorecard from September 21, 22, or 23 with Cotton listed...

The Vault coughed up a couple of early Bradleys last year or thereabouts. From 1970 (and most likely spring training of 1971, as I don't see the Centennial patch of the 1969 uniform anywhere in sight):

That photo is from 1935, his last season in the Majors. Here is another Red Sox option showing Graham in his rookie year (1934), courtesy of thecatspajamas.

Here are some other Peek/Yankees options. His left ear makes him easily identifiable.
