Two doubles and four RBI for Lindor. Dude should sit on the bench more often. Keeps him motivated.

An appropriate punishment for Snottavino would be to just leave his soggy old-man bum in Tampa when the rest of the clownshow tingles on come Monday.

J.D. Martinez' first Mets homer breaks up a Barves bid for a combined no-hitter on the 27th out of the game.

Best waste of $12M for Uncle Steve yet!

Great work! Did Maloney have a near-no-no against us in the mid-1960s, or am I misremembering?

I know Johnny Lewis and Joe Christopher beat Ken Johnson (then an Asstro) in extra-innings, but he already went 9 no-hit innings. Which is still a no-no, to my mind. Harvey Haddix >>> revisionism. JMO.

Boom-Boom's gotta boom-boom, I guess.

I wonder what the Barves would want for Kelenic...

The New York Clownshoes have now lost the last seven times I watched them (including from the archives on the day after).

Today, they had absolutely nothing. Four hits against Nola, who SNY proudly proclaimed was 0-5 with a 4.43 ERA in his last six starts against the Metsies. Well, he tugged those stats a bit more in his favor with a shutout. Mets didn't reach scoring position until the bottom 9th, then predictably choked again. Completely atrocious.

Same for the pitching. Eight walks issued today. It feels like they dole out eight walks EVERY day. Throw some ******* strikes, ya bums!!

Highlight of the game was - by default - the 3-2-5-2-3 rundown on Stott between third and home, and even that was almost ****** up by Baty, who ***** up everything he gets close to. I think he should **** up Syracuse for a bit. Any Johneshwy Fargases in AAA that can offer some comedic relief?

No, they've had him. Atlanta was one of the stops on Cano's 2022 "Released 3 times in 90 days" Tour. Mets, then Padres, then Braves.

As for AAA options, Luke Ritter (a 27-y/o 2B-3B) is hitting .271/.386/.486 at Syracuse. Is he the answer? Probably not, but the other option is Vientos, who is hitting even better…but we know your opinion on him.

The best stats at Syracuse actually belong to Ben Gamel (OPS over 1.000), but he's 32 years old and can't play 3B.

I was joking, you know "sarcasm" because the Mariners got rid of Cano and his huge contract and got Kellenic and more so that was my way of making it a joke...

I know it was a joke. I was using a fact-based rejoinder as deadpan humor. (Not very well, apparently.)

Get pumped! The Mets' starting pitcher tonight will be…THE UNBEATABLE JOEY LUCCHESI !!

Feel our wrath, Phillies!

Which potatohead decided to bat Pete second again!?

Not that it would fix Lucchesi getting scraped over a Phanatic-sized cheese grater, but...

By losing 8-0 to The (Theoretically) Worst Team in Baseball, the Metsies now drop to 5-10 in May, 8-16 in their last 24 and are now 11 games out of first place. All before the Zodiac hits Gemini.

Dang, it's a good thing that Uncle Stevie sprang for the highest payroll in baseball ($305.6 million), huh? Imagine where we would be without all this high-grade beef!

(8-0. You could not show up, take the forfeit, and do nearly as well. There have to be better ways to spend a Friday night in Miami, no?)

So whom do we not want to trade from this trainwreck?

Kingman is walking at year-end, may as well get something for him.
Squirrel is 32, could be finished.
Senga is 31, has a big contract, been out all season
"$341,000,000 down the toilet" Lindor is probably untradeable, but we should at least see if there are any suckers out there.

AFAICT, our untouchables are basically Alvarez and Mauricio, both of whom are hurt. And maybe Scott, Christian vs. the World, albeit the world slapped him around just fine last night.

Yeesh.

Obviously, the biggest spenders in MLB rarely flop, as the Yankees and (more recently) the Dodgers usually get enough value for the $$$$$ that they can stay above .500 (When the Yanks went 67-95 in 1990, they were only the 5th-highest payroll. Kansas City, amazingly, was #1. Get that cash, Bo Jackson!)

Not that there haven't been some wretched teams in the top 3 (2009 Mets, 2010 Cubs, 2018 Giants, and a special shout-out to the 2017 Tigers, who went 64-98 and still had the second-highest wage bill in baseball), but generally, the top spenders can at least reach mediocrity.

Exceptions:

1998 Orioles, still pissed at Cheating Jeffrey Maier, open the vault and go 79-83
2023 Mets, 75-87

and the "winners", appropriately enough

1992 Mets,"The Worst Team Money Can Buy", #1 on the tax statements, but 72-90 in the field.

(1993 Mets, starring Anthony Young, went 59-102, but were outspent by four teams.)

AFAICT, this would be the first time ever a team topped the pay charts in consecutive years, and was useless both seasons. And this time we can't even blame Kate Upton's husband, who was on those 2017 Tigers as well as last season's Flushing Flushables. Sigh.

(Just realized Jake got a ring last season. Good for him, but…)

I guessed wrong, but we're still complaining about a players with a 122 OPS+.

When I said "we" I meant you. I don't complain about Pete.
