Bottom line: George Brace's daughter just got a $760,000 settlement for having her father's photographs used and sold without compensation to her.

There are lots of Brace images out there - basically, if it's at Wrigley Field or Comiskey Park after 1959 and before 1990 or so, especially if it's not perfectly lit, it's one of his. With this successful litigiousness I would hesitate to post one of them even if I'd found it in a google image search.

Would anyone happen to still have the photo of Frank Mellana?

Edit: In perhaps the single dumbest post ever, he asks for an item linked in the quote that he used. Never mind!

Beyond the fact that the Monteagudo shot will make someone very happy, it's such a great photo.

Frank Mellana

Is this the image you seek.

I am making this post in response to your request, but I do try to comply that this thread should put an emphasis on MLB images, unless there are no MLB images for a given MLB player.

Thank you - the full photo was linked right in the post that I quoted. I should have just deleted the post rather than leaving my dimwitted-ness on display.

Ron Taylor - Padres 1972

My brain forgot to simply process that he had a short lived stint in the banana unis back in '72. (5 IPs across 4 games, 12.60 ERA)

Thanks to the TV folders I now remember....Yowzah.

Tom Tellmann, 1980 Padres

For me, one of the joys of Topps Vault is seeing bigger images of guys who were previously available only in those teeny weeny rookie card pictures. Here, for example, is right hander Tom Tellmann, who got a look with the Padres late in the 1980 season. Tellmann later had a couple of decent seasons as a middle reliever with the Brewers.

Has anyone started making a list of players identified in each Topps Vault folder...I have done a pretty good job identifying most guys but would like to identify more if there is a list somewhere

I don't believe there is a *public* listing, it appears 5 or 6 of us are compiling our own personal lists. Reinventing the wheel.

Over at Baseball-Birthdays, two guys (TheMendozaLine, and BigYaz) used to do the bulk of the ID'ing a year or two ago, but no one does it any more.

I'll help! If we rotate doing the grunt work (typing the ID # and playernames), no one person should be overburdened. I'll start! I'll do the latest one (one from the GQ series), later today. The ones I cannot identify, yinz can pipe in and add to the list.

Howzzat sound?

Ed Figueroa Oakland A's 1981

The latest GC lot from Topps Vault is one of the most mixed bags I have ever seen. The highlight for me so far is Ed Figueroa, seen here in spring training 1981 with Billy Martin's A's. It was Ed's last hurrah; he got only one major league start that year before departing The Show for good.

I have been identifying them for the last couple of years. There is no need for anyone to work on those. I tried doing it with all of the files that John has available at Baseball Birthdays.com but the task was far to much for me. I was spending all of my free time trying to id the various players but it got to the point of total frustration and realizing I needed to have a life outside of ID'ing baseball players. I imagine there are some here who can understand that.

Anyway, I digress. I have been downloading the pics religiously for the last couple of years and saving them by their Topps release series, e.g., GQ16 Stan Wall 1977.

If you want to PM me, we can talk more about it.

'69 Cleon Jones TV Image?

This is a longshot, but I've seen longer shots come in, so figured I'd ask: Has the original TV image used for this great '69 Cleon card ever come to light? Many thanks!

In the Baseball Birthdays thread where unknown photos were ID'd by committee, a whole bunch of the TV era were ID'd by Robert Wong. He and Merkle together probably have a comprehensive list, but we need to communicate directly and I have accidentally burned my bridge with Wong.
I believe a lot of this work is done already if we ask the right questions of the right people.

Bob Heffner 1963

This is one of the reasons the Topps Vault is so great:

In the "new batch" is this photo of Bob Heffner with the Cincinnati Reds -- but his major and minor league career stats show he was never a member of the Reds' organization.

....BUT a closer look at his transactions show Heffner was a Rule V pick by the Reds in 1963, but was returned to the Red Sox during spring training and would make his MLB debut that season for the BoSox. This photo is literally a snapshot of a brief moment in time.

Topps Vault Folders

I have images going back to the initial Topps Vault folders. Interestingly in the AB folder there is no sign of a watermark.

That was the time when we pursued our hobby in fun and innocence with no interest in making a buck out of what we posted. It would be wonderful if we could return to that spirit and attract back those that have been alienated. However, it seems I am in a minority but it does not mean that I am wrong. I know how much pleasure this thread has given and I will continue to fight for that which I care deeply about.

The previous format baseball-birthdays site contained many images that required identification and many of us contributed to that process.
